Chapitre 18: A Bond Created at First Sight
Ad ignored the words of the white haired werewolf. Not because he wanted to, but because he couldn't pay any mind to him. He was staring at the blonde girl who was staring at him. He could feel it from her. Those feelings he held until he died, but amplified to a height he couldn't even imagine.
Ais: You're the Captain of the Hestia Familia.
Adalwulf: The Sword Princess from the Loki Familia.
No one spoke. They members of the Hestia Familia felt slightly apprehensive, as level one Adventurers, to talk in front of the Main Party of the Loki Familia. The Loki Familia, in turn, was surprised by how AIs took the initiative in initiating a conversation with the other party.
Ad couldn't help but feel pity for the girl. There was love in her, and care. For those she held dear. But still, she felt a boundless loneliness. And what Ad caught in her, that surprised him and made her look even more pitiful in his eyes, was her anger.
He unconsciously channeled feelings of care, love and tranquility in her, through his Samkennd. Ais's eyes shot wide open for a second and then they took a more gentle gesture. An Elf who was behind her looked at Ad with jealousy, while the werewolf was destroying him with his sight.
Bete: You're too weak to even talk to her.
Lefiya: You should stay away from Ais-sama.
Adalwulf only then looked at the two who had spoken. Without stopping sending his emotions to Ais, he channeled tranquility to the two of them too, this time knowingly. Redirecting his sight to Bete for a moment, he answered his poor excuse of bullying.
Adalwulf: Of course I would be weak compared to you, Bete Loga, I've only been an Adventurer for half a month.
Then he looked at Lefiya and also adressed her comment.
Adalwulf: And why should I stay away from someone when that someone hasn't told me to get away, Thousand Elf?
The one who interrupted the conversation was no other than Finn Deime, Captain of the Loki Familia.
Finn: Let's get back to the important matter... what is a Minotaur doing here, and who killed it?
Adalwulf began explaining his side of the story. How they had gone down to the tenth floor to check the waters, came back up and suddenly found the Minotaur when it sneak-attacked Eoghan and how the battle had developed.
It would be an understatement to say that the Loki Familia's Party was surprised when they heard of a five-man party composed of Level Ones defeating a Monster on the level of the Minotaur, which was one of the stronger Level Two monsters. The only one who didn't feel surprised and had a soft smile on her face was Ais, which rendered the veteran Adventurers who knew her even more shocked.
Riveria: I haven't seen Ais smiling so much, ever.
Lefiya: I-Is it because of that boy?
Finn: I can't help but think that she might actually connect with him.
Gareth: It would seem like our little Princess has found someone who actually calls to her. We should be happy for her.
Bete: I will never recognize that weakling.
Adalwulf sighed, exasperated at Bete's repeated, annoying remarks about him being weak. He decided to stop them for good.
Adalwulf: Look, I don't even care about how you see me, but you're annoying. Give me a month from today. We'll duel. In the meantime, you won't call me weak.
The Loki Familia's Party was, yet again, shocked by how the rookie seemed to have a stupid level of bravery. And yet again too, Ais just smiled.
Bete: As if I could take the word of a weak...
Ais: He can do it.
Lefiya: What do you mean, Ais-sama? Are you giving him permission to challenge Bete?
Ais: No. He can win if given a month.
Adalwulf smiled brightly when he heard Ais' words. He channeled the glee he was feeling because of her support back to the girl, and her smiled grew brighter. With him, she didn't need to speak many words, nor show many emotions. He tacitly understood how she felt, and answered back with an emotion of his own.
Adalwulf: As much as I'd like to keep this conversation going, we have to report this to the Guild, and sell our haul of the day.
Finn: You are right about that. As the Party directly involved, we'll leave it in your hands. I hope we can keep a friendly relationship, Adalwulf.
Adalwulf: I also feel the same way, Mr. Deime. I hope I see you again soon, Ais Wallenstein.
Ais: Un.
After that, Ad's Party left the scene with their haul and the drop from the Minotaur. Once they were out of sight, Riveria approached Ais and saw her still smiling. Being slightly surprised and at the same time relieved to see her acting like a girl her age, Riveria asked her why she showed such interest in the boy.
Ais: He understood me without the need to talk. He spoke to my heart directly.
Tiona: *sigh* I wonder when a man will talk like that to me...
Tione: Captain, when will you treat me like that~?
Bete: You don't get it.
Everyone looked at Bete with surprise in their faces. What was it that they didn't get about emotions that the walking blockhead did?
Bete: He could literally talk directly to you, without words. I felt it too. And it makes me mad.
Lefiya: I also could feel it. It was when I was feeling mad at him for being close to Ais-sama.
Finn: Could you please explain what you mean a bit more clearly?
Bete released a sigh of helplessness at his Captain's words. Lefiya, on the other hand, looked extremely troubled, because she had felt two very different things from the man who her beloved Ais was now so interested in.
Bete: When I felt annoyed at him, I think he could feel it. The reason I say that is because, that same instant, I began feeling tranquility coming from him. As if everything I said was ineffective. Though it only served him to anger me more.
Lefiya: I... 'I'm not so petty' I felt two different things. I also felt the tranquility Bete talks about... but I also felt a feeling of loneliness. One that I think he didn't realize he was channeling.
Ais: I forgot to ask him if he could help me become stronger.
The entire Party sweatdropped at Ais comment. Seriously, how could she be so air-headed sometimes?

The reason why Ais has a hard time interacting with people is because she has a hard time showing her emotions. Ad simply knows what she feels, and can also transmit his emotions to her, which in turn allowes her to simply understand him better.
That is why she so suddenly is happy around him, because she can understand that he cares for her, and that he understands her better than anyone.
At least that is the beautiful piece of Bullshit-no-jutsu that I crafted for this chapter.
