Aila's leg had snapped under the pressure of the bear trap, and blood flowed down her bare leg. She began hyperventilating from the pain, sure she had been shot and had wolfsbane, but this was totally different.

Her stomach instantly churned as she looked away from her leg and hurled to the side of her. Hardly anything came out, and she ended up heaving instead. Her body became clammy, and she knew her face was pale from shock. Was she going to pass out? No, no! I can't pass out.

With as much strength as she could find within herself, she looked back at the grotesque view of her leg. She swallowed past a lump in her throat and rose her shaking hands once more. Her hands hovered above the metal clamped around her leg. Blood trickled down her legs, soaking into the ground, but she breathed through it.
