Chapitre 41: XLI
If only Aurora had not made a mistake over the mission, he would have not been worried because she won't be able to return and he need to be bothered about satisfying people's curiosity.
Aurora used the whole day to rest. She did not even bother to have dinner with her uncle who wanted her to eat dinner with him.
She stayed in her room on her bed throughout. The following morning after eating a light breakfast, she went to her uncle's study.
He was informed of her arrival and invited her in. She walked in and knelt before his large work desk with her head bowed.
The arrogance of the day that passed was no longer on face as she was very humble.
The king could not help but scoff as he stared at her.
He spent his night in the study thinking about what will happen to his kingdom if the Alpha king comes for vengeance.
His personal adviser also stayed with him but they could not come with anything to protect themselves with if the Alpha wants vengeance.
With his army of supernaturals, it will take them a few days to flatten this city or kill every living being in his kingdom.
His advice suggested a lot of things like sending an apology before anything happens by sending the Duke as a diplomat to his kingdom to plead for forgiveness and offer gifts.
He also suggested they put the blame on Aurora and give her up to the Alpha as someone who was filled with vengeance and went to hurt the Alpha without letting anyone know about it.
Even after those hours spent, the king could not still pick any he thought was good enough that won't affect him and his kingdom by making Aurora unhappy enough to hurt them.
Seeing her on he knees, he felt he could give her a punishment that she will be willing to accept and that will appease the Alpha.
"I am sorry. I have failed everyone," she begged as she kowtowed before the king.
This was the very first time she was kowtowing to anyone for any reason. She had so much pride that she did not bother to follow such traditions.
"What did you do wrong?" the king asked although he knew very well why she apologized.
"I was impatient. I lost my mind for a moment and made a very grave mistake.
"I don't deserve your forgiveness because what I have done could cost the life of a lot of your subjects.
"Let me bear the punishment alone. Send me to them as a prisoner and the culprit.
"It will most likely prevent a war that will cause bloodshed. I don't want anyone to suffer for my mistake," Aurora said as tears clouded her eyes.
"So you know how to take responsibility," her uncle said shaking his head with a frown.
"Let me pay for my carelessness. It is all my fault. I don't deserve your forgiveness.
"I have failed you and my parents, grandparents and brothers. I failed them all let me get punished like I deserve."
Her voice was firm and determined. It was as though if her uncle doesn't send her to them, she might as well go there herself.
"What makes you think your crime will bring war to my kingdom?" the king asked her seriously.
"I know it will. The werewolves are known for their brutality. If the king does not make a move, his subjects might make the move.
"It will be bad if they begin killing people on the border like they did in the past. Innocent people will suffer it. I can not let that happen."
"You are to remain in your room for the next few days until I come up with a solution.
"There are many more options. We might come up with some other way to appease the Alpha and prevent a war.
"We are really not ready for war. We have lost a strong general and we won't be able to hold them off.
"Even if you are willing to pay the prize, we are not sure if it will appease him. After all you are a princess and it will make him very suspicious.
"He might link it to the Royal family making the punishment not stop at you alone.
"He won't be wrong to assume that because I sent you to do it. If he tortures the information out if you, it will only make him angrier."
"It won't be right if we remain quiet. I will never leak out any information to them even if I get tortured.
"You could check if I am strong enough to withstand torture. Ask your torturer to test me."
"That won't happen. How can I hand over a princess of my kingdom to get tortured by a poor servant?"
"You could use my copse to him to appease him," she suggested. She was willing to die from the moment she stabbed the Alpha.
She keeps seeing a wolf in her dream. She is never scared in the dream but after waking up, she feels so scared like she was haunted.
She was willing to die at any moment because she has lived all her for vengeance and she was not even capable of doing it which meant her life was useless.
"You are so quick to suggest ways to end your life. I heard you tried committing suicide after stabbing him.
"Yes, I tried but I was stopped. Isn't that the fate of a soldier who fails to accomplish a mission that its failure could cost people's lives?"
"You are not a soldier but a princess."
"I was a soldier on a secret mission from the moment I left this palace to kill the Alpha."
"No one is going to kill you here," the king told her firmly with an obvious hint of anger and a hidden hint of fear.
He will not stain his land with a drop her blood. He will not let her die on the soil of his kingdom.
"You should leave. I will come up with a plan. All you need to do is recover your health fully so that you could be ready for whatever plan I come up with," he ordered her dismissively.
