Chapitre 3: SHE IS MANIPULATIVE

Lucas' POV

I stared out the window as the car moved along the road. 'A new city, a new town, a new school', I thought and sighed. I honestly wasn't keen about transferring here. But what could I do? My dad had been promoted to managing director at the company which he worked, and the promotion demanded we move to this city, this neighborhood. And just like that without even seeking much of my opinion they had uprooted my entire life and dragged me halfway across the country. Ok maybe that was going overboard. They had talked to me about it and I had agreed. But what choice did I have? It was a good thing for the family they had said. Maybe it was a good thing for them, but for me, I'm not so sure. I sighed once again. My mom turned to glance at me.

"Everything alright sweetie?", she asked. "Hm", I replied barely looking at her.

"Look I know you aren't too enthusiastic about the move...."

'Gee, just figuring that out',I thought to myself.

"...But it would be a good thing for us and an even better thing for you, hm? I mean, change is always a good thing right?", she said and glanced at me.

I remained mute.

"And besides I'm sure your new school would be great. It is known as one of the best schools in this neighborhood. I mean just think about it, you'd get to meet new people and interact with different kind of people. You'd make lots of new friends", she tried coax me.

'I don't need new friends', I thought to myself. But I'd never say that to my mother. I mean it wasn't her fault, I'm sure the move had been pretty taxing on her too. So I just smiled lightly at her and turned my attention back to the scenery while mom rambled on about somethings about the town.

The car pulled into the parking lot. Mom put off the engine and I got down. I glanced around, we were in the prestigious, Presley High School. One of the things I wasn't keen about as well was the choice of school. The school was known to cater mostly for children of the 1 percent of the city. Mom and I proceeded into the school. We headed straight for the admin block and met with the Principal, who apparently was an old classmate's of hers. I watched them exchange pleasantries and catch up for a while. I stood on the side patiently waiting for them to finish.

"And this is your son?", the Principal asked her while looking at me. I nodded politely at her and introduced myself.

"Good day ma'am. I'm Lucas"

"Ah, Good day", she replied smiling at me before turning back to my mother.

"I must say you are really blessed to have such a son. He's really good looking and well mannered", she complimented.

"Oh please", my mom responded smiling at me with pride. The principal laughed before saying,

"Ok let me show you to your homeroom teacher so you can get your timetable and locker information"

"Ok", I replied.

We headed for the staff room. There, the principal introduced me to a young looking man as my homeroom teacher. He smiled at me and handed me all my timetable and locker information. The Principal then led me to my first class which was English. The principal called the attention of the English teacher and introduced me to him. My mom decided to leave and bade me goodbye. The principal followed after her, to see her off. I walked into the class after the English teacher. All the girls immediately swooned and gushed at me. I was already used to it, it was like that everywhere I went. After the teacher introduced me as a transfer student, he asked me to officially introduce myself.

"Hi my name is Lucas and I'm a new transfer student. I hope we all get along", I said with a smile, trying to seem as friendly as possible but inwardly, I was very uninterested.

The girls started swooning and gushing once again and I rolled my eyes inwardly. I glanced round the class in disdain and then my eyes caught someone. She was staring at me, but unlike the other girls she wasn't staring at me like she was infatuated, she was staring at me blankly like she didn't care which was surprising for me because I was used to every girl swooning over me but she seemed different. I winked at her and to my greater surprised she didn't react like I thought she would. Normally when I wink at a girl they'd either blush, scream or gush but she was different, she just looked at me in contempt and turned away.

'Strange', I thought.

The teacher told me to find a seat and I did. After I sat down, I glanced at her again; she wasn't paying any attention to me. I smiled in my head and focused on the lesson.

Ding dong

'Finally it's time for lunch', I thought to myself and got up immediately. I walked down the halls, paying attention to no one and keeping an aloof expression. I soon found the cafeteria.

I stood at the entrance, my eyes wandering around. I saw her again. She was sitting with two girls. One seemed to be quite lively, the other was reading a book but she was very beautiful, she's the type of girl boys would like to say had the looks of an angel. She exuded a calm and gentle aura. Most guys would fall easily for her then lastly I looked at her, the girl from the English class. She was laughing at something her friend did and my heart skipped a beat.

'God, how is she so beautiful?', I thought to myself. In terms of beauty if she was compared to her friend she'd definitely loose. But she had her own special aura. She wasn't ugly and she wasn't averagely beautiful either but compared to her friend, she fell short. But she gave off this vibe, that was enchanting. Her smile was really dazzling and I was mesmerized.

I slapped myself mentally, 'What the hell are you thinking?'.

I saw her glance at me from the corner of my eyes but she quickly turned away too like she didn't care.

'Seriously though, why was she always like that', I thought to myself.

I had gotten used to getting attention from girls a lot that to me it was almost impossible for a girl not to show any interest in me, but she was different. I shook my head and walked towards the counter. I stood languidly for a while, not standing on the line, trying to decide what to have when she walked past me. 'Even the way she walks is different' I thought to myself. She walked with a gait of self confidence. I watched her cut straight to front of the line, and say something to the boy in front before assuming his position. I looked around and no one was saying anything about how she had blatantly cut in line.

"Don't you think it's rude of you to cut in line?", I heard myself asking.

She turned to look back at me, clearly surprised that I had questioned her.

"What?", she asked me confused. I walked closer to her and stared at her. Honestly, I didn't know why had confronted her, it's not like I was on the line, and I definitely didn't care about the others standing on the line so why had I confronted her?

"I said don't you think it's rude of you to cut the line like that?", I repeated.

She smiled at me lightly and replied,

"I already apologized to him and asked for his permission"

"Did you?", I asked raising my brows at her.

"Yes", she replied curtly and turned away.

"But that's still rude don't you think?", I continued, not sure exactly why I wanted to continue this conversation and might end up provoking her. She turned to me clearly already getting irritated at me.

"Is he the only one on the line? What about the others that have been waiting on the line?"

I walked even closer to her and said in a whisper, "Don't you doing this actually kinds of make you a bully?", in an effort to provoke her.

I really didn't know why I wanted to provoke her or maybe I just wanted to see her reaction?

She stared at me for a long time before smiling and saying,

"I already said I apologized to him and asked for his permission so why are you calling me names? If you found it disrespectful then I'm sorry"

I stared into her eyes and realized one thing, 'She is manipulative'.

She was clearly getting really angry at me but she suppressed it and even went ahead to apologize making herself seem like the bigger person. Realizing that I couldn't help but laugh. By now everyone was already looking at us, especially me. They were looking at me in surprise, like how did I even have the audacity to question her making me wonder why no one ever questioned her.

Nevertheless I looked at her and replied, "How pretentious"

She seemed really startled as she asked me in utter surprise, "What did you just call me?"

"I said what a pretentious bitch you are" I didn't know what I was doing but I kept at it anyway.

By now she was boiling with rage, I could see it in her eyes but she was trying her very best to suppress it and she was actually doing a good job.

'Why was she always suppressing herself?', I wondered.

Before I could say anything else, someone interrupted us,

"What's going on here?", the newcomer asked.

It was a boy with extremely good looks. He walked right to her side and slipped his hands around her waist.

'Was he her boyfriend?', I thought to myself.

I don't know why but this thought saddened me.

"Is this guy giving you trouble?", he asked her.

"No", she shook her head in reply.

"It's fine", she reiterated.

"Yeah, bro we were clearly only just talking", I couldn't stop myself from saying in a snarky tone.

"Who the hell are you?", the new boy asked me after scrutinizing me for a while.

The way he spoke with so much authority and smugness told me he was not someone simple. But then again I was literally in a school for the elite brats of the city, who went here that would have a simple background?

"No one, Romeo. It doesn't matter. Let's just go", she told him before I could respond.

Romeo, so that was his name. I gazed at her intently.

"Ok", the boy named Romeo agreed and they walked away.

Seeing them walk away like that, saddened me and also made me angry.
