Chapitre 14: Braavos
It has been two weeks since Arthur sent the letters to Lannisters and Velaryons. But Arthur knows that he can't bring a large army of 4000-6000 unsullieds to Dragonstone on a single journey with just Longships which are now prepared by Lord Corlys. This is why he decided to inform Lord Corlys to prepare 16 Galleys to carry out possibly 4000 unsullieds. They will go to Bravos for the eggs at first. Then move to Astapor to buy the unsullieds. Arthur had contracted the Saan family of Lys to hire them for their service. The saan family are notorious pirates. Arthur had hired the Saan fleet of 33 Longships. He would pay them 31 thousand gold dragons per month which was a fair deal. The Saan fleet didn't have to pay the toll but Velaryon fleet had to cross the Stepstones to reach Astapor and so they have to pay the heavy toll.
Lord Corlys wanted to get on Arthur's good side. So, he told Arthur that he would bear the toll of 16 galleys. Arthur was happy that he only had to pay the return toll of Saan fleet.
But Lord Corlys didn't like the fact that Arthur was contracting someone from Lys to to carry the unsullieds. He at first told Arthur that he could bring about 30 galleys to carry the unsullieds to Dragonstone. But Arthur warned him not to because it would let the Triarchy know about their war preparation.
At present, only 5 people know about the upcoming war. As Daemon stopped Viserys from discussing this in the council, only 5 people knew of the upcoming war. Daemon already sent a raven to Arthur stating that an army of 2000 will participate in the war for victory. Daemon was a little curious about why Arthur is buying unsullieds but Viserys didn't question Arthur's judgement. Viserys already considered Arthur as his son-in-law. So, Arthur betraying him didn't occur in his mind. He was a weak king after all.
Today, Jason Lannister will arrive in Dragonstone to get his sword. Arthur was having his breakfast with Rhaenyra who looked quite upset.
"Can I come with you? This place is quite boring. You aren't even taking Ancalagon and Dreamfyre with you."- Rhaenyra spoke with a depressed face. She knew that Arthur wasn't going on an adventure yet she couldn't stop herself from coming with him. Her bratty side is still present.
Seeing her, Arthur chuckled." You are not coming with me. Just like one of the starks must be present at Winterfell, one of my family members must stay at Dragonstone. You will be my wife after two years. So, you will wait here and control the smallfolks."
Rhaenyra couldn't find a word to refute him. She is quite weak against the word wife. Whenever Arthur speaks of it, she becomes docile like a cat.
Seeing her not speaking, Arthur thought she was sad. So, he wanted to encourage her," By the way, Ancalagon thinks you are a little bit of worthy of me now. I guess you riding him to the bay of whales was a success."
Hearing him, Rhaenyra was embarassed because Ancalagon didn't listen to any of her commands. He flew like he wanted to and reached Bay of Whales at a high speed which made Rhaenyra nervous.
A servant came up and told them the arrival of Jason Lannister. So, both of them went to greet him.
On the way, Arthur couldn't understand how a ruthless and cunning man like Tywin Lannister had an ancestor like Jason Lannister. Jason liked to flaunt his wealth. He was greedy and a womanizer. Thanks to the knowledge provided by the sphinx, Arthur knew how ashamed Tywin would be seeing his ancestor. He might even slap him hard. Imagining it, Arthur was laughing in his mind.
"Greetings, Lord Arthur, Princess Rhaenyra. It is a pleasure see you two again."- Jason spoke with a smile.
"The pleasure is ours, Lord Jason."- Both Rhaenyra and Arthur spoke in unison.
Before Jason could speak again, Arthur stopped him." Did you bring the money with you?"
"Always like to get on the chase? I like it, Lord Arthur."- Jason spoke while waving his hands. Soon, his soldiers came up with chests full of Gold Dragons.
Arthur brought his sword 'Pride' and gave it to him. Just when Jason unsheathed it, he had a greedy smile on his face that Rhaenyra didn't like. Arthur knew what he was thinking of. Jason wanted to be in the famous Lannister list. He wanted his name there as he brought back a Valyrian Blade for his house.
As Jason wanted to test the blade somewhere, he didn't stay for long. Arthur thought he would stay for atleast a day. But Jason left too early. So, Arthur sent a raven to Lord Corlys to come with his ships to Dragonstone.
Lord Corlys arrived in the evening with his two ships. Now, Arthur felt sad that he would have to leave Rhaenyra for 1 or two months. At first, he didn't think about it too much. But Rhaenyra's action from the time of Jason's departure made Arthur sad.
"I will be going now. I will try to send letters to you. I love you,Rhaenyra."- Arthur kissed Rhaenyra's forehead and whispered into her ear.
Arthur and Corlys started their journey to Braavos. It took them four days to reach Braavos. On the way, Arthur told Corlys about his plans to get the Dragon eggs in Braavos. But Corlys rebuked him saying there wasn't any egg here. But Arthur didn't listen to him which made Corlys a little bit angry at his behavior. Arriving at Braavos, Arthur and Corlys set up a meeting with the Sealord here in his palace.
When they arrived, a servant told them to wait. They waited for about 1 hour and lord Corlys was angry thinking that the Sealord is showing them their worth.
"Patience, Lord Corlys. We don't want a fight here."- Arthur whispered to him. But a voice came from the door.
"Then what are you here for? Arthur of house Valhalla and Corlys of house Velaryon."
Arthur saw a man in his 40s coming up with 6 guards behind him and so Arthur knew that he was the Sealord.
"Greetings. Looks like you already did your research."- Arthur spoke to the sealord while trying to figure what would that man want.
"Yes. This is why we can go directly to business. I know what you are here for."- the Sealord spoke narrowing his eyes.
Arthur was surprised but maintained a poker face.
"Great. Then, Do you have the Dragon eggs that 'Elissa Farman' sold to your city?"- Arthur questioned him narrowing his eyes. Arthur still doesn't know what the sealord wants from him. But Arthur knew that they have those Dragon eggs.
"The previous sea lord sold it to Asshai. But I knew that you will be coming for those eggs. So, I sent my men to fetch those and now, we have them in Braavos. BUT, they will come with a price."- The sealord spoke with a grin on his face.
This time Arthur couldn't hide his surprise anymore. He didn't imagine that it would be this easy. But in his mind, Arthur was already thinking that it was a trap.
'How can someone know me that well. I only told it to Rhaenyra and then to Corlys at the ship. Is someone eavesdropping me in Dragonstone or Corlys betraying me?'- Arthur started thinking in his mind. He looked toward Corlys who also had his eyes widen which confirmed Arthur that Corlys didn't betray him.
"You did your research. But I wonder what you will need. You don't need money, that's for sure. The Iron Bank is supporting you."- Arthur told the sealord who was grinning like a mad man.
"Don't worry, Lord Arthur. We already have everything. We have three valyrian swords so we don't need anything from you. As you said, we have no shortage of money. You can take the eggs. But remember, you owe us now."- The sealord spoke and waved his hand.
A servant came up with a chest which had three eggs. Seeing them, Arthur was now sure that these were the eggs of Drogon,Viserion,Rhaegal. Arthur just nodded at the sealord unwillingly and took the chest with him to his room in the galleys.
Arthur felt the eggs. The eggs still hadn't turned to stones. Arthur could feel the life in those eggs. Even after 50 years, the eggs were still alive. Arthur thought that these eggs would have turned to fossils. But they didn't. Arthur told Corlys to start making their journey to Astapor.
Lord Corlys was already eyeing the eggs. He hoped to get one. But when he remembered that Arthur had made an unknown deal with the sealord, he threw away the hope for the egg.
Corlys had ordered his men to start the galleys and make their journey to Astapor.
In the sealord palace, the sealord was looking over the window with a smile on his face. There were 6 people behind him who were wearing a priest outfit. If Arthur was here, he would be shocked because that man's face has changed completely. " The many faced god has spoken. A man can't ask why that man needs those for."
All the whole time, Arthur was talking to the leader of Faceless men. The many faced god has decided to help Arthur to get those eggs. Why? It's because of the sphinx.
The many faced god and the people of Braavos loathe the gods of Old Valyria. The sphinx with its powers let Arthur come back from Death. The many faced god or the Death god doesn't like it when someone challenges Death. The sphinx told Arthur to change the destiny. Now, the many faced god wants to see if Arthur can truly cheat death and change destiny. If he can't, the many faced god would speak to the faceless man to kill him and his family and mock the Gods of Valyria for eternity.
Now, Arthur has two gods behind his back who would punish him if he can't fulfill his condition and change destiny.
