Chapitre 38: **Chapter 38: Woman in Black**

Hey guys, it's me. Please give all powerstones for the week to creedfollower (Blood Venerable). We want to see how high we can get him in the ranking. Thanks!

Who would be the real-life equivalent of the Venerables? Who are the 10 most impressive people in history?

Do you think the Venerables after Fate was damaged are kind of bums for not being able to become immortal?

Let me know what you think of the chapter.

*Swoosh*

*Swoosh*

The trees and bushes blurred past as I rushed through the forest. I had long left the village, its outskirts, and all mortal settlements behind me.

About half an hour ago, when I entered the forest, I activated my Poison Muscle Gu and began sprinting.

My speed was absolutely superhuman. If I wanted to, I could probably slaughter a mortal village, even if all the villagers were armed, just with my body alone. The power of a Gu Master rose steeply, so that at the second lowest rank, they barely resembled humans anymore.

My journey was easy, as the Poison Muscle Gu was a rank 2 Gu that consumed very little primeval essence, especially for someone like me at the peak stage.

*Huff*

*Huff*

But as my stamina started to wane, I began to slow down, eventually stopping entirely.

If one were to observe me, they would notice that stamina was the lesser of my problems, as unnaturally white spots had begun forming on my skin, visible only on my face.

This was the downside of the Poison Muscle Gu—it poisoned its user. A normal Gu Master would only use it sporadically or as a trump card.

Not me, though…

My primeval essence mobilized…

Rank 2 Hydra Gu… Activated

Rank 2 Fast Flow Gu… Activated

Rank 1 Poison Belly Salmon Gu… Activated

Rank 1 Poison Belly Salmon Gu… Activated

*Rank 2 Killer Move: Detoxifying Hydra*

As I activated the killer move, the Hydra Gu I had refined a few days prior emerged from my Aperture. A rank 1 Poison Belly Salmon attached to each of its two heads.

*Crunch*

*Crunch*

Although it was my own Gu, it bit me twice, not because it was disobedient, but because I willed it to do so.

One head bit my forearm and the other my bicep. The pain was strong, but not unbearable.

The majority of discomfort came from the Fast Flow Gu, which I used to increase the flow of blood in my body.

It might not have been pleasant, but in about 15 seconds, every bit of poison had been cleared from my bloodstream, moving from conglomerations in my skin straight into the Poison Belly Salmons.

Consuming only 10% of my primeval essence, it was truly one of my most convenient inventions yet.

Especially since it meant I did not have to keep buying one-time use Gu that could increase my poison resistance, as this was a pointless endeavor. It might still be possible for rank 2, but at rank 3 and up, it would just be a game of luck… Not to mention the immortal ranks…

With 56% primeval essence in my Aperture, and a confident feeling, I activated my Heat Vision Gu, hoping to locate a few rank 2 beasts to test my combat skills against.

Unsurprisingly, there were only a few small animals within range of my Gu, so I started running again at a slower pace, intently observing my surroundings.

In the fifteen minutes my search lasted, I found about a dozen small groups of rank 1 beasts, leaving them alone to avoid wasting my primeval essence.

*Squeal*

*Oink*

*Squeal*

Under a big tree lay a drove of five pigs, lazing around in the mud. All of them were fully grown, with no piglets in sight.

'Very good… Five rank 2 beasts…' I thought, looking down from the tree I was hiding in.

'I should be able to take them on, as pigs are not really the most combat-oriented animals…'

Without hesitation, I activated my Acid Armor Gu, which instantly covered my whole body in a thick layer of dark black acid.

*Huuuuh*

Taking a deep breath, I mentally went over my combat plan once again…

'Let's go…'

The Hydra Gu appeared on my back, its head leaning on one of my shoulders. With its advancement in rank, it had become smarter and more independent, so I did not have to point at the group of pigs for it to release all the poison stored in the Poison Belly Salmons attached to it.

A giant cloud of poison was spat out by the two heads. One was the byproduct of my Poison Muscle Gu, released from the left head, while the other was 2P41, the 41st rank 2 poison powder my Poison Refinement Gu had produced.

One caused paralysis in high doses, while my own creation was responsible for dizziness and disorientation.

*Swoosh*

*Thud*

*Thud*

*Crash*

Two dead bodies, courtesy of my Poison Bullet Gu, hit the ground before I landed my jump down the tree.

'That's three of them left…'

Closing in on one of the pigs at speeds not visible to the naked eye, I swung my arm at its skull.

*Squelch*

The claws that were part of my Acid Armor Gu pierced the pig's skull like a knife through butter.

Just that damage alone instantly killed it, but its corpse was still being affected by the acid, causing the half of the face that had not been cut off to disintegrate to the bone.

Not that I was paying a lot of attention to that, as I was in the process of killing the last two pigs.

'That was pretty easy…' A smile spread across my face, as my expectations for my own power had been exceeded.

'That initial poisoning has really been a job well done…'

I still had 30% of my primeval essence left. This led me to conclude that I could continue hunting some more after I was done here.

With steady steps, I made my way to the first pig's corpse, hoping for some Gu as my loot. Although I knew it was very unlikely with all the poisons I used negatively affecting their survival rate.

First corpse… Nothing.

'Not that I was expecting anything…' Without hesitation, I scattered a handful of poison on the corpse, causing it to slowly dissolve.

'I could have probably sold its body for some money, but it's just not worth my time. Better to get rid of it to not attract any predators or unwanted attention.'

Second corpse… Nothing.

Third corpse… Nothing again.

This continued until I had checked all but one corpse, none of them exceeding my expectations in the slightest.

'It's a real shame that none of the dead Gu can be used for death refinement… All of their bodies entirely destroyed…'

As I walked up to the sixth corpse, I saw something wriggling under its skin.

!

Hoping it was a Gu worm, I sped up my steps. Arriving in front of the corpse, I knelt down and cut open the pig's skin with a well-controlled wind blade that did not even leave the palm of my hand.

*Buzz*

*Buzz*

*Buzz*

*Buzz*

Thousands of mosquitoes, as big as flies, flew out of it, seeming to have a mind of their own, attacking me. In the time it took me to retrieve a bit of poison from my robes and scatter it around, I had suffered hundreds of stings all over my arms and face.

*Huff*

*Huff*

'Ahhh… it hurts so much…'

This experience was way more painful than normal mosquito stings.

*Huff*

In seconds, my body temperature began to rise, and I could feel my concentration waning.

'What was that?'

'No no… that's not important… What caused this, it was too organized…'

'Was it a beast king? Or…'

*Swoosh*

*Squelch*

I registered the sound of something cutting through the air at the same moment that the pain hit me.

Some kind of projectile penetrated my left eye. My natural reflex was to cover the wound with my hand, but all that did was make the bleeding less severe and cover my left arm in blood.

'No, I can't be distracted right now, something is attacking me…'

*Buzz*

*Buzz*

*Buzz*

Looking ahead with my one functioning eye, I saw about a dozen cicadas flying in my direction. They were about 15 centimeters tall and had an unnatural shine to them.

'Stay calm, it's fine… They only have a rank 1 aura.'

*Shwoosh*

*Shwoosh*

*Shwoosh*

My wind blades and water bullets were cutting through the air, each one brutally dismembering a cicada in the process.

Wings, limbs, and shells were flying in all directions, making disgusting squelching sounds as they died.

My choice of Gu was not random, as I used rank 1 Gu to hopefully preserve as much of my primeval essence as I could.

This wave of relatively weak rank 1 enemies gave me a few seconds to catch my breath and think clearly.

'Two types of insects have been used against me… this is the worst case…'

'An Enslavement Path Gu Master…'

Coming to this conclusion, I summoned my Greedy Toad Gu, took out a lot of poisons, and started scattering them around me to create a poison cloud.

This decision turned out to be right, as shortly after, new groups of insects started to appear.

*Root Healing Gu*

Roots started to grow out of the soles of my feet, destroying my wooden shoes in the process.

While my legs were pinned to the ground, unmoving, both of my arms moved fast and precise, scattering every type of poison into the air around me.

*Thud*

*Thud*

*Thud*

The insects trying to attack me dropped dead before they made it even halfway through the poisonous cloud.

*Cough*

*Cough*

For now, the waves of insects attacking me were not a problem anymore, but, funnily enough, my own poison was.

'Do I use the Acid Armor Gu to prevent poisoning in the first place, or do I use *Detoxifying Hydra* continually?'

'The killer move is more expensive upfront, but cheaper to maintain... But the Acid Armor can also be used to defend and attack…'

*Acid Armor Gu*

'Let's just hope that my poisoning is not too bad yet, or that the Root Healing Gu can get rid of at least some of the poisoning…'

*Buzz*

*Buzz*

*Thud*

*Thud*

'This will be about endurance.'

'Will I run out of poison or primeval essence first, or will my attacker run out of insects to throw at me first?'

10 minutes – 30% primeval essence

25 minutes – 26% primeval essence

50 minutes – 20% primeval essence

At this point, I was starting to get nervous. My primeval essence recovery was not enough to keep up with the consumption. If this continued, I would die here.

I could not gain any useful information. Even while keeping a lookout in every direction, I could not spot the Enslavement Master who kept sending enslaved insects at me every 30 seconds or so.

"It seems that I have won."

Came the voice of a woman. I would have thought it was a peaceful voice, had the circumstances been different.

Instantly, I turned about 120 degrees to my left, and what greeted me was my enemy.

She stood there, wearing all black clothes, with long black hair, seeming a bit gloomy, albeit still very beautiful.

She smiled, letting me see her perfect white teeth…

'Ahhhhh… what is that??' A pain worse than anything I had ever experienced seemed to pierce my soul, coming from my head.

The last thing I saw before everything went black was her smile…

…the smile of my killer.
