Chapitre 8: Tomoya Aki

"Kenichi, you're finally here; I thought you weren't coming. I've been looking for you earlier but couldn't find you at all."

As he spoke, his only friend came over running.

Kenichi looked at the person running towards him; he seemed to be an ordinary-looking person just like him. The only difference is that this guy wore a pair of glasses and looks a little weaker.

But from the way he speaks and moves, one can't tell that this guy is an otaku.

In addition, if he took off his glasses, he would probably be better-looking, but he always wears those black-rimmed eyes, which makes him look a bit more rustic.

Tomoya Aki was Hasegawa Kenichi's only friend. The OG Kenichi was hooked on anime, manga, and light novels because of his influence.

Back then, Kenichi was a country bumpkin who came to a big city like Tokyo from the countryside. The way he dressed and talked with an accent was a clear indicator of that.

This led to him being laughed at and ostracized by others; at that time, Aki appeared in front of him.

Despite the fact that he was discussing Otaku topics, he was the only one who approached him.

To be honest, Aki was also the only person who showed kindness to Hasegawa Kenichi. Therefore, in order to become friends with Aki and have common topics when hanging out, Kenichi started to pay more attention to otaku stuff like games, anime, manga, and light novels.

At the same time, Kenichi also accompanied Aki to go on part-time jobs to earn more money and used it to buy second-dimensional products, such as figures, novels, comics, etc.

In fact, when he was in junior high school, part-time jobs were prohibited, but Aki had many such opportunities. He took Kenichi to work part-time to make money and then spent it in the 2D world.

Fortunately, this happened, so Kenichi Hasegawa rarely called out to his family to ask for money to buy 2D products.

Otherwise, his family might go bankrupt. After all, it is really not easy to make money in the countryside.

Tuition fees, living expenses, etc. have to be provided. If the 2D purchases were added to the list, Kenichi's parents really couldn't afford them.

Even though he was still ostracized and even looked down upon after becoming an otaku, at least Kenichi had a friend who made it bearable to live in Tokyo.

Otherwise, he might have run back to his hometown to farm in despair, or even worse, he might have committed suicide. After all, it is not uncommon for students who are often bullied at school to choose suicide.

Therefore, he was full of gratitude to Tomoya.

"Aki-kun? Long time, no see. I encountered something yesterday, so I went to bed a little late and couldn't get up early in the morning. Fortunately, it's not too late now." He smiled.

"That's right. Has your accent changed, Kenichi-kun?" Astonished, Aki inquired.

"Oh, right, so I practiced filtering it out when I speak during the holiday because speaking with a Kansai accent will be looked down upon by others." In a composed tone, he said.

In fact, he saw in Hasegawa Kenichi's diary that he was ridiculed because of his Kansai accent, so he worked hard to change his speaking accent.

Therefore, there were no lies told at all when he brought up this reason.

"Is that so? Well, it doesn't matter. But I still feel like you have changed, Kenichi."

Aki looked at Kenichi with a strange look.

"Have I changed? I didn't notice it."

He found that Aki was quite sharp for someone who has more interest in the 2D world and does not pay too much attention to the outside world.

Maybe because they were friends, he paid more attention to Kenichi, to the point of noticing his small changes.

"It's just a feeling. How did you spend this holiday? Did you buy any new novels? Let me tell you, I bought all the new books that came out during the holiday. Among them, "Even if I Turn into a Girl, I Will Still Like My Sister" is the most exciting book. Really, this is a gem. Although the author's writing style is not very good, the handling of some plots is also very good–"

When bringing up the 2D world, Aki became passionate and excited; he started making exaggerated gestures with his hands.

He became immersed in his own world and did not even care about the looks he was getting from the people around him.

Kenichi has read about this situation in his diary; at first, he thought that the OG Kenichi's writing might be too exaggerated.

But looking at it now, he found that what was written in the diary was not exaggerated at all.

To the core of his being, Aki is a guy who genuinely enjoys the 2D world.

"–So, the book is really great. Right Kenichi-kun?" With expectant eyes, Aki looked at Kenichi after he had also concluded his lengthy tirade.

"Well, I apologize, Aki-kun, but after hearing what you had to say, I am a little tempted and cannot wait to get it. However, I am a little tight on money, so I have been working part-time over the holidays and have thought about earning money by myself to help pay my living expenses once I start high school. I have little left over to spend on novels because I do not want to ask my family for money any more."

What he said can be regarded as the truth.

As for the relationship between friends, Kenichi didn't mind maintaining it when he arrived. After all, Aki was also the only friend of his predecessor.

"Really? Is that so? It turns out, Kenichi, that you have grown up since starting high school. Making money on your own by working independently is a wise choice, and I agree with you. In this situation, you will not have much money to buy 2D merchandise, though."

Although Aki was always immersed in his own world, many of the things and decisions he makes are completely unreasonable in the eyes of others.

But he was not completely ignorant.

He could understand and support what Kenichi said, but he still feels it was a little regretful.

"There is nothing we can do about it. But I will buy it after you say." Kenichi said it with a smile.

"Kenichi-kun, if your situation is like this, then you don't have to buy it; if you want to read it, I'll lend you mine. Although I can't buy it for you, I can still lend it to you. If there are any good light novels in the future, I can lend them to you."

"Really? Thank you so much, Aki-kun." Kenichi thanked him.

Of course, he is in this situation for now, but it won't always be like this. After making money in the future, he will naturally pay it back.
