Chapitre 7: Chapter 7

Clarissa was sitting in a chair across from them, and Jay—Jay was pacing back and forth in the middle of the room.

“Jay, can you just sit down. Please. You’re making me dizzy.”

Jay turned to him. “God, Evan. I just can’t imagine. He could’ve killed you!”

“Yes, he could. But he didn’t, did he? It’s over, all right? The cops have him and I’m okay.”

Jay didn’t answer him.

Evan sighed. “Listen. This is not your fault. You can’t be with me 24/7.”

Evan got it; he really did. Jay was scared and he blamed himself for letting Evan out of his sight. He just wouldn’t let himself say it.

“Jay, I know. But it’s all over now and I’ll be fine. We’llbe fine.” Evan squeezed Hunter’s hand and he felt Hunter squeezing his back before he let Evan go. Hunter reached out for a pen and paper.

The police want to talk to me,he wrote.

Evan read the writing and looked up at Hunter.

“All right. I’ll see you after you’re finished, okay?” he said.

Hunter blinked and nodded.
