"Ohhh!" Lucas, Will, and Joshua recoiled at the vicious thump.

OMG! Def wasn't expecting a fight!
I jerked my head up as Whitney's panicked cry blended with several collective gasps and a spattering of ill-intended cheers. My fingers flew to my parted lips, and I leaped off the bleachers. Kya and Samaya rolled on the ground under the goal with their arms and legs in a furious tangle.

I love Whit defending her friends! Even if Will isn't talking to her, he's talking about her bff and that's unacceptable.
Will scoffed. "Am I talking to you?"

All Lucas sees is Samaya's greatness, lol😍😍🤩🤩
"Look, just admit Samaya has better ballhandling skills than Kya, and I'll leave you alone," Lucas said.
Urban · MsTery
Sad thing is that Samaya's just doing her. She's not trying to upset anyone lol
In the second of the two matchups, Kya and Samaya faced off. Despite my unfamiliarity with the game, I knew to cheer whenever Samaya made a basket—and that happened anytime she had the ball. Kya's team couldn't stop her. The spectators exploded in enthusiastic cheers as Samaya savagely dribbled, spun, and passed the ball to outmaneuver her opponents. Although Kya had a tremendous long-range shot that always cleared the net, she couldn't carry her team. Alex, a tough veteran player from last year's team, was unstoppable when she extended her long arms to defend the basket. While she couldn't block all of Kya's shots, she managed to hold the rest of her opponents at bay. And to Kya's dismay, Samaya didn't disappoint offensively either. When Samaya stole the ball from the opposing team twice and scored both times, Kya grabbed at her plaits and unleashed a fierce, inarticulate scream.

I sense a rivalry brewing
Lucas leaned back and folded his arms. "I'm not biased; it's a fact. You try running with her. Even with my stride, she outruns me every weekend, and that's not even accounting for endurance." Lucas nodded toward the girls finishing their laps. "See, Kya's tired from that burst she used to catch Samaya, but Samaya's chillin'."

I grinned. Indeed, when Samaya's feet hit the floor, they scarcely made a sound, yet the speed of her movement kept her braids in the wind. When the other girls passed the bleachers, my mouth gaped open. The girl closing in on Samaya was none other than my science partner, Kya. Even though Kya had played for the school team in junior high, she never mentioned basketball during our conversations in class. I assumed she wasn't going out for the team.

Chloe is a very good friend to notice that about her friends.
Whitney reached for the ball, but Samaya held it above her head and out of Whitney's reach. A tiny grin formed on her lips, but she continued playing with the tennis ball. A porcine snort erupted from me as Whitney grappled for the ball. I clamped a hand over my mouth to smother my giggles and pondered Samaya's silence. Unlike Whitney and me, Samaya withdrew from her feelings. Whereas Whit's idea of self-reflection required oral processing, Samaya grew abnormally quiet. Similarly, while I used meditation and mindfulness to analyze my issues, Samaya practiced detachment. Over time, we learned Samaya's quiet had shades and tones like the colors of the rainbow.

Strike 2. One more and they need to help Whitney ditch this dude.
"Come to think of it, he's always like that," I said, popping a pumpkin seed into my mouth. "The day you, Lucas, and Alex went to sign up for basketball, Marco sat with Whitney and me asking all sorts of questions about the way we spent our free time."
Urban · MsTery
Okay that went from annoying to stalkerish quick.

Samaya narrowed her eyes. "He's her boyfriend or whatever. He shouldn't be walking me anywhere unless Whit's around. Shouldn't he have walked her to Lucas' truck or even driven her home?"
Urban · MsTery
She will.
"Marco is weird," Samaya stated as she gulped down her soup. "I've wanted to talk to Whitney about it, but I'm afraid she'll get all up in her feelings."
Urban · MsTery
Samaya nodded. "That's not the only thing I find strange."
Urban · MsTery
Samaya and Chloe like
"Will didn't even disagree with me," Whitney complained, not bothering to ask whether Samaya or I wanted to hear her recap. "Instead, he picked at my investment in the issue, insisting that as a heterosexual female, LGBTQ adoption rights don't concern me. If he agrees with my bottom line, why dissect the logic or my investment?"
Urban · MsTery
"Marco and Will had the loudest argument in intro to poli sci this morning," Whitney bubbled. "It was epic!"
Urban · MsTery
Yay Chloe made a new friend!

Ms. Goodwin reading the steamy book in class, lol
Kenny pelted Kya with a third wad of paper while Ms. Goodwin settled in to read her book with a half-dressed man on the cover. As Kya and Kenny held a silent exchange and mouthed insults back and forth, everyone watched and waited for the action.
