Bab 5: The Tour
"You are my sunshine, my only sunshine," I softly sang, reminiscing about my mom's favorite lullaby. She used to sing it to me every day, a comforting melody that filled our home with warmth. As I let the words escape my lips, someone suddenly grabbed my hand, interrupting the nostalgic moment.
"Let's get going," he said, his grip firm as he pulled me out of the basketball court. Startled, I yanked my hand away, asserting, "Hey! Let me go... you can't grab me like that." With his hands casually tucked into his pockets, he looked around and asked, "So, where can I find the laboratory?"
Feeling a sense of caution, I hesitated before replying, "I don't advise myself to tell you that. You sound like trouble... in fact, you are trouble." My gaze shifted to the impressive trophies displayed in the school case. Smirking, he leaned against it, resting one leg on the case and keeping his hands in his pockets. "Mmmmh, so you can read people. Well, you're right about me being trouble. You know, my other name is trouble," he remarked playfully.
Maintaining my composure, I retorted, "Mmmh, really now. Well, Mr. Trouble, that case you're leaning on contains one of the school's most treasured trophies, won in national competitions. So, be careful, or trouble won't just be your other name; it'll become a situation you find yourself in." I gently pushed him away, emphasizing the significance of the trophies.
Resuming my role as a tour guide, I showed him around the school, providing historical tidbits along the way. As we stopped in front of a particular area, he paused and remarked, "You seem like a smart person." Meeting his gaze, I confidently replied, "Because I am."
His playful demeanor shifted as he moved closer to me, a mischievous glint in his eyes. "Too cocky. Well, let us make a deal. Besides, you owe me for saving your ass," he said, walking toward me. Backed against the wall, I asked, my voice slightly trembling, "Wh... What are you do... doing?" My heart raced as I waited for his response.
"Well, like I said, let us make a deal. You will have to repay me. After all, why not with..." he began, his voice trailing off. Before he could finish, I immediately interjected, "No!" Determined not to be caught off guard, I swiftly rejected his proposition.
Amused by my reaction, he smirked and remarked, "Slow down, Ms... looks like you have something in mind. I wanted to say you pay me back with tuition." Confused by his proposal, I asked, "Tutoring?" seeking clarification. He confidently replied, getting closer to my face, "Yes... any problem?"
Slightly flustered, I instinctively backed away, demanding, "Okay, get your face off my face. I will have to think about it." Sliding under his arm, I put some distance between us, regaining my composure. "Please do think about it, Ms... Is the tour done or?" he asked with a hint of mischief in his voice.
With a mix of curiosity and uncertainty, I responded, "Done." He winked and walked away, leaving me with a whirlwind of questions. Max Payne, all you give me are questions with no answers. What was this tour all about? Did you have it all planned out, saving me and then asking for help?
Despite the uncertainty, I couldn't deny the excitement that accompanied the mystery he brought into my life. It was a welcome distraction from the monotony of school, keeping my mind busy with possibilities. However, in the back of my mind, a sliver of apprehension lingered. I hoped this newfound intrigue wouldn't lead to heartache and disappointment.
