Bab 6: A call from the Satan
After all the worshiping, praying and everything was over, Lucy turned to me frustrated and pouting like a two year old. It was so cute. 'Why am I smiling???'
"For goodness's sake, what's your name?"
I chuckled before saying, "it's-"
"Hey, why are you two talking?
Our class teacher cut me off.
"Diane." I said like I didn't hear her.
Lucy was looking at the teacher and I looked that way too. She looked furious.
"How dare you still talk when I'm speaking!? Lucy and Diane, DETENTION! Both of you, now!"
"UGH! Great." Lucy spoke out loud and we both went to the detention room.
I was panicking, I've never been in detention ever before. Not even in my previous school!
"Why are you sweating?" Lucy asked me.
I said, "Nothing.. just-"
"First time detention?" She asked again and laughed a bit.
"Hey! It's not funny! Anyway, how many times have you been in detention?"
To my horror, she started counting her fingers and shrugged her shoulders saying, "I lost count." She had this cheesy smile on her face which made me laugh a lot.
I laughed out so loud that the lady who was in that room walked upto us and yelled, "Stop laughing!" We both fell silent instantly but then we both looked at each other and burst out laughing in front of that lady.
I think she was the teacher in detention? I don't know man, I'm new to this stuff. However, after laughing we both looked at her and guess what?
Yeah. We were nearly suspended. I kept begging and begging but Lucy was no help at all. She was so stubborn and said she never apologises or begs. But after I pleaded her, she did it.
Which really surprised that fat lady with glasses, and she let us go with a mini suspension. We were basically suspended for the rest of today and tomorrow.
I sighed but when I noticed Lucy glancing at me, all my worries faded away and my lips curved into a smile.
"Caught cha!" I suddenly turned to Lucy and whispered a bit loudly.
She flinched and cursed.
"Hey! language!"
"Hon, you can't control my mouth. I can't even do that to be honest. It's like my mouth is working on its own sometimes."
"Whoa that sounds creepy as in a horror movie."
"Horror movie? Omg! I LOVE horror movies!"
"Girlie, same!"
"Ah don't do that."
"Don't do what?"
"Call me girly, girl..dude...etc. I'm a tomboy!"
"Then..why can't I call you dude, dude?"
"I don't like that Diane. Anyways.... about horror movies.."
I blushed when I heard her call me by my name for the first time but of course I didn't let her notice that at all.
We kept talking secretly till the detention was over and even after the detention.. we kept talking while Lucy guided me in exploring the school.
We shared many interests and we kind of had the same dreams and same paths. It was like as if fate made us be together as best friends. She was the perfect bestie for me although she had some bad qualities.
I mean, everyone had bad sides too.. No one is actually perfect, not even me. Sometimes you just have to accept that fact and still highlight only the good side and be with them just for that.
And maybe you can change those bad qualities into good ones. After some time, we went upto the place where I hid the kitten and thankfully, it was still there, sleeping.
Lucy was so scared and wasn't really that friendly with the kitty at first. I held the kitten and took Lucy's hand letting her slowly pet the kitty.
Her eyes lit up and she started smiling ear to ear. Watching her smile, made me instantly smile.
"Wow, she likes me. I love you."
I was caught off guard by her words and I asked, surprised, "what?"
"Oh, I'm not talking to you."
"Oh, aheh yeah.. sure.. I- I love her too. She's so pretty!"
"No, she's beautiful."
"That's the exact same flipping thing-"
"No it's not. You said pretty and I said beautiful."
"You're confusing me Lucy." —sigh—
"Pretty means beautiful on the outside but I meant, beautiful on the inside and outside."
The realisation clicked and I said, mockingly, "Oh, wow. You have transparent eyes?? Holy Lord don't look at me!" I covered myself with my hands.
"No- No I mean- bahahahahaha" Suddenly she burst out laughing.
"I know. I know what you mean- bahahahahaha"
We both laughed our heads off, literally. My stomach started hurting from laughing so much.
The rest of the day also went absolutely wonderful. We laughed, we ran, we talked.. I felt so happy and relaxed like I can really be myself with her. I was very comfortable around her.
[LUCY'S POV]
We came back to the class and packed our bags to leave. When we started walking outside the gate I saw some bullies who used to bully me, was coming towards us.
They were looking at Diane! I suddenly grabbed her hand and we started running outside the gate. I could hear them also running but I was faster. To my surprise, Dianr started running faster than me.
I looked at her, quite surprised. I didn't know she could run like that. Like a cheetah!
"Whoaaw!"
She looked and me and smiled before uttering, "What? Did you think I was slow because I looked delicate? Don't measure a book by it's cover, hon."
I laughed and said, "Nah, I'm just surprised. You're really fast, like really. This coming from an ex athlete Diane, you should really participate in athletic competitions."
"Ex, athlete? Why what happened? Why did you stop? You can run almost as fast as me."
"Well I.."
We saw my brother waiting near his car and we both kept talking before going near him.
"My back was injured and since then mom never let me participate again, ever. It used to be my dream. Now, I wanna be a surgeon.. or a kid's specialist."
"I wanna be a vet." Diane stated, smiling.
lI saw her eyes shining like two light brown marbles. Her determination and passion was showing through her eyes and looking at her made me have goosebumps.
Her determination made me have more determination too. I got inside the car but before we could leave, I asked my brother to give Diane a lift but this jerk was hesitant.
But after sometime when I pleaded him, he was surprised and said, "Fine."
I was so happy and thanked him, which surprised him again. "Stop being so surprised! You're annoying me!"
"Dude. You have finally learned some manners which would definitely surprise anyone."
I rolled my eyes before scrolling down the window and shouted for Lucy to come inside, she was hesitant but then she got inside the car and we kept talking like parrots till she got out and went to the cafe.
My brother looked pissed and annoyed the whole time. I knew perfectly well how much he liked the peaceful silence.
I dozed off in the car. When we finally arrived at home, we were both surprised to see mom collapsed on the floor between the couch and the main table!
Both of us ran towards her and I started panicking! My brother was calm and he called the ambulance. I saw her phone was on the floor too.
She must have been in a call and then suddenly fainted. I took the phone and quickly searched for the number who she last called. And it was.. from the hospital?
"Oh my god!"
I turned to my brother before asking,
"WHERE IS DAD!?"
