Bab 47: Reality Check.
[Third Person POV]
Kaito and Todoroki left Endeavor's Hero HQ and enter their classroom. The internships were over and now it was up to Kaito to judge—I mean, analyze how strong his classmates have become.
At least, that was supposed to be the plan until he saw Bakugo.
"Seriously?! Seriously, Bakugo?!" Kaito, Sero and Kirishima are laughing their asses off at Bakugo's new hairstyle.
"Stop laughing! My hair's gotten used to it, so it won't go back even after I wash it!" Bakugo.
The trio keeps laughing.
"Hey, stop laughing!" Bakugo.
"Or what?!" Kaito laughs.
"I'll kill you three!"
"I'd like to see you try, Side-Part Boy!" Sero.
"What'd you say?!" Bakugo's hair literally explodes back into its original setup.
"It's back!" Kirishima/Sero/Kaito.
The trio laughed even louder.
Meanwhile, the rest discuss about their respective internships.
"Wow, you even got to fight villains? I'm so jealous!" Mina.
"I just helped people evacuate and did logistical support, so I didn't do any actual fighting, though." Jirou.
"It's still amazing, though!" Mina.
"All I did was train and go on patrols, too. There was just one time when we caught smugglers from a neighboring country." Tsuyu.
"That's crazy!" Mina/Jirou.
"What about you, Ochaco? How was your week?" Tsuyu.
"It was very worthwhile..." Uraraka answers while punching the air and emanating a powerful aura.
"Ochaco's awakened, huh?" Tsuyu.
"She went to that battle hero's place, right?" Jirou.
"That's a huge change for just one week..." Kaminari.
"Change? That's not it, Kaminari. Women are all demons. They're just hiding their true personalities." Mineta answers shivering while remembering some traumatic experiences.
"What did you see at Mt. Lady's place?!"
"I was kind of fawned over and had a good time. But the ones who changed the most, or at least went through the most were you four, right?" Kaminari.
"Oh, yeah! The hero killer!" Spoke Sero whose shirt was being grabbed by Bakugo.
"I'm glad you guys made it out alive! Seriously." Kirishima who was in the same situation.
"I was worried about your wellbeing." Momo.
"I heard Endeavor saved you, right?" Sato.
"That's amazing! As expected from the number two hero!" Toru.
Todoroki remembers what he agreed with the police chief and answers.
"Yeah… He… saved us." Todoroki.
"Yeah." Midoriya.
"That guy was on another level." Kaito.
"I saw on the news that the hero killer was connected to the League of Villains. Imagining someone that scary coming to USJ freaks me out." Ojiro.
"He is scary, but did you see the video, Ojiro?" Kaminari.
"Video? You mean of the hero killer?"
"Yeah. Seeing that, you can see how he's really single-minded and, like, tenacious. Doesn't it almost make you think he's cool?" Kaminari.
"Kaminari!" Midoriya.
"Huh? Oh, Shit! Sorr—" Kaminari.
"No, it's fine. It's true that he was tenacious. I understand how people could think he's cool. But he chose purging as a result of his beliefs. No matter what he thinks, that part is definitely wrong." Iida.
"Yeah, though, I also think he was cool." Kaito.
"WHAT?????!!!!!!!!!!!!" Everyone.
"WHAT DO YOU MEAN, KAITO?!" Midoriya.
"Calm your horses, everyone. I'm just saying that the fact that he didn't lose his ideals was cool." Kaito.
"What do you mean?" Iida.
"The hero killer wanted to return the true meaning of being a hero to society, regardless of how society would view him or punish him for his actions. I'm not saying that I agree with his philosophy or that what he did was right but, he went through that path, because he thought it was the only path he could choose." Kaito.
The entire class looks at Kaito in awe as he gives his explanation.
"S-still! Holding someone that high is not commendable!" Iida.
"Iida. Do you think that the heroes that fought the Hero Killer were just lucky to receive some minor injuries?" Kaito.
Todoroki, Iida and Midoriya flinch at Kaito's comment.
"What do you mean, Kaito?" Momo.
"You see, from what I've heard, the heroes that defeated the Hero Killer alongside Endeavor received injuries, however, said injuries were not something serious or imminent life-threatening. This tells me that Stain's morals forbid him from killing someone that has the values of a "true hero"." Kaito.
"Couldn't that mean that they were lucky?" Mineta.
"Mineta, I fight with swords and many other weapons so, from experience, I can say that not killing is way harder when you have already killed." Kaito remarks the last part with a cold gaze.
The entire class feels the coldness in Kaito's eyes and shiver a little.
"K-Kaito…have you ever k-k-k-killed someone?" Kaminari.
"Just wild animals for their meat and skin." Kaito.
"Why?" Hagakure.
"I did some survival training of my own so, I threw myself on a forest during one of our spring breaks and started my training. I wanted to eat meat and killed a few deers, and let me tell you, killing a living being is not as easy as it sounds." Kaito.
The class shivers again.
"That moment, when your actions are the result of a living being leaving this world, there's just no words to explain it. One time, I fought a bear that wanted to kill me, I won of course after a few minutes but, the interesting part was when her cubs came out of some bushes."
"The bear wanted to kill me so that her cubs could eat, in that moment, I understood the weight of killing someone. There are some that kill for necessity, others for hatred, but ultimately it ends with a person leaving this world." Kaito.
"B-but, we're heroes, we won't kill anyone." Jiro.
"I bet Stain had that same thought when he applied to be a hero." Kaito.
"Our quirks are to help people, we would never…" Uraraka was interrupted by Kaito.
"Incorrect. It's not that your quirks were made to help people, but rather that, YOU chose to use them to help people. Think about it, you can make someone float and when they reach a high altitude, release them and they'll splat on the ground."
"Bakugo can blow them to pieces, Jiro could cause a rupture in their brains with her vibrations, Midoriya, Iida, Sato, Kirishima, Shoji and Ojiro could break their bones, Tsuyu could choke them with her tongue or snap their necks. Momo can create anything lethal."
"Todoroki can freeze or burn them, Mina can dissolve them, Kaminari can stop their heartbeat of fry their brains, Mineta can choke them with his pops and Sero with his tape, Hagakure can easily be an assassin, Tokoyami can rip them to shreds with DS, Aoyama can whatever his laser does with people (Burn them, melt them? I don't know)."
"Resuming! Just like Thirteen-sensei once said, "Your quirks save lives, but they can also take them away"." Kaito.
The class remain in silence until Todoroki speaks.
"Why…why are you telling us this?" Todoroki.
"Why? For you to understand different things. The weight of your consequences, the effect of despair on someone and the fact that, God forbid, one day you could become the villains that you're trying to stop." Kaito.
Everyone is silent once more.
"This takes us to the other note." Kaito.
Everyone looks at him.
"If anyone here, God forbid, walks that path, I will stop you and bring you back. I'll have your backs and you'll have mine so, if I ever walk that path, stop me, ok?" Kaito.
Their eyes widen in surprise of Kaito's words. Aoyama specifically feels like someone has punched him in the gut.
'No, no, no, I…I…I…I can't stop now, it's too late for me…Kobayashi.' Aoyama.
The classes began and everyone had Kaito in a new light. They thought that he was scolding them for their acute way of seeing things, but rather, he was teaching them about the things that they were overlooking.
"Tch! SHITTY SWORDSMAN! DON'T THINK THAT I'LL EVER NEED YOUR HELP!" Bakugo.
"HUH?! STOP YOUR TSUNDERE ACT YOU BOMIKO!" (ボミコ) (Japanese kanjis of Bomb and noisy).
The class began to calm down and now laugh at their class's rep antics with Bakugo. Once again, they have grown, a little, but have grown.
[Field Gamma]
Everyone from class 1-A is in their hero suits. Today they have a special class with All-Might.
"Okay, everyone is here. Anyway, we'll start now. Right. It's hero basic training! Long time no see, boys and girls! How've you been?" All-Might.
"Very good!" Answered Kaito cheerfully.
'How can you be so cheerful after that deep speech earlier.' The whole class.
"Since you've all just gotten back from your internships, we'll have some fun with a rescue training race!" All-Might.
"If we are doing rescue training, then shouldn't we do it at USJ?" Iida.
"That place is for training for disasters. Do you remember what I said? That's right! I said "race"! This is Field Gamma! A dense area filled with factories laid out like an intricate labyrinth. You'll break up into four -person groups and go through the training one group at a time. When I send out a distress signal from somewhere inside, you'll all start at once from the outskirts of the city! It's a race to see who will rescue me first! Of course, you'll have to keep damage to buildings to a minimum." All-Might.
While saying the last sentence, All-Might not so discretely pointed directly at Bakugo.
"Don't point at me!" Bakugo.
Some students snicker, and Kaito laughed loudly.
One after another, the students began their training, in the first race, Midoriya managed to secure first place after following some advice that Kaito gave him before the competition.
"When jumping on unstable areas, you should be wary on were you'll step, or else you can slip and fall." Kaito.
Kaito also won in his group, the other winners were Bakugo and Todoroki, of course, the explosive one was quite pissed at the big improvements of Todoroki and Midoriya. Why not Kaito? He simply knew that Kaito would become stronger so, it was between his expectations.
But Midoriya and Todoroki were moving at a higher pace than him, Midoriya moved so smoothly and fast without breaking his bones, and Todoroki improved his control of his ice and fire that he can almost fly.
[After the training, in the locker rooms]
"That was some hard training." Sato.
"Our first class in a while made me sweat!" Aoyama.
"I need to work on my mobility." Kirishima.
"You must compensate for it by gathering information." Tokoyami.
"That'll put me a step behind everyone. I'm jealous of guys like you and Sero." Kaminari.
"There's nothing to be envious about. Just do some running while carrying weights or do some yoga in a high place to attain perfect balance." Kaito.
"Hasn't anyone told you that you're a little too hardcore?" Kaminari.
"Yeah, a lot of people actually." Kaito answers with a smile.
"You're a monster!" Kaminari.
"Hey! I'm not the human charger, so don't place the monster tag on me." Kaito.
"A wolf in sheep's clothing, there has never been a more appropriate person fit of said tittle." Tokoyami.
"Oi!" Kaito.
While they were distracted talking nonsense, Mineta found a legacy from their predecessors.
"Hey, Midoriya! I discovered something crazy! Come here! Look at this hole, Shawshank! It is probably thanks to the efforts of those who came before us!" Mineta shows Midoriya the peeping hole in the wall.
"Next door is, you know…the girls' locker room!" Mineta.
"Stop this, Mineta! Peeping is definitely a criminal act!" Iida.
"My little Mineta is already a criminal act!" Mineta.
'Did he just admit that he has it small? Why?' Kaito.
"Yaoyorozu's ample yaoyoro-boobs! Ashido's slender waist! Hagakure's floating underwear! Uraraka's fine Uraraka-body! Asui's unexpected boobie—" Mineta.
*SMACK*
Kaito smacks Mineta "gently" in the head and gets near the hole.
"Moshi mosh! Girls the pervert has been apprehended but still, block this hole immediately." Kaito.
"Thank you, Kaito-san!" Mina.
"As expected from the rep." Hagakure.
"I'll close it in no time." Momo.
Uraraka and Asui nod.
'I…I was the only one…who he didn't mentioned.' Jiro sulked mentally.
"You truly are worthy of respect, Kaito-kun!" Iida.
'Don't, I also wanted to see Asui in her birthday suit, ARGH! NO! I won't allow such perverted thoughts, EVIL BEGONE!' Kaito smacks his head against the wall.
'Shit.' He thought.
"What was that?" Uraraka asked from the other side.
"Nothing I just wanted to say something to Jiro before the hole gets blocked." Kaito.
"What do you want?" Jiro.
'Sorry Jiro, but I don't want to end like a weirdo for smacking my head like an imbecile, take this bullet for me please, I'll take the next thousands that will go towards you, ok? Ok!'
"Jiro-chan." Kaito spoke.
"What?" Jiro.
"Do not worry. There are plenty of flat-chest lovers in the world!" Kaito smiles and gives a thumbs up.
Jiro looks like she's going to blow up and tries to hit him with her earphone jack but can't due to the range.
"KOBAYASHI! I'LL FRICKING KILL YOU!" Jiro.
"AHRG! SORRY! I THOUGHT THAT WOULD CHEER YOU UP!" Kaito.
It was said, that Jiro tried to sneak-attack Kaito for three weeks straight every time they met.
[Class 1-A, afterschool]
Kaito and Yaoyorozu are the only ones in the classroom and are staring at each other. In the eyes, I had to be specific for the perverted audience.
"So, what do you want." Momo.
"I came to claim the favor you owe me." Kaito spoke with a smug look on his face.
"I have a few conditions." Momo.
"Done, I'll tell you what I want and you'll tell me if you can do it." Kaito.
Momo is a little taken aback, she honestly thought that something weird was going to happen.
"So? What do you want?" Momo.
"I..." Kaito.
