Bab 36: Luck?
*Jude's pov*
"So how will we choose each person's position?" One of us asked after listening to Ego's explanation about how the first selection was going to happen.
As usual, he kept his creepy smile glued to his face as he explained that the first selection was the first step to creating a world class striker. This format was meant to make us forget all our made up ideas about football, every single tactic or strategy we were used to would become meaningless in such a chaotic environment.
It'll be a survival game between 5 teams made up of 11 strikers, With each win the team gains 3 points while a draw only gives 1 point to each team and a loss gives out 0 points.
Only the two teams with the highest number of points will be able to advance to the second selection, as for the other 3 teams they will all be eliminated other than the one who scored the most goals. Ego also explained that the goals scored can be exchanged for a few things such as steak for one goal, a phone for 3 goals, a deluxe bed for 5 goals and a one day pass for 10 goals.
After listening to Ego's explanation everyone had the same concern, 'How will we play with 11 strikers?', luckily one of us had the idea to play rock paper scissors, I proposed just basing it off of the rankings of each player but all of the lower ranked players complained.
Having our position based on our rank was the most logical solution but either way I didn't care about my post, I was fully confident in my abilities
In the end, we came to the conclusion that we will play rock paper scissors, it'll all be attributed to luck. We also agreed that our composition would be a 4-3-3, having 3 forwards suited us way more and gave us more chances to end up being in our preferred position.
We then went on to play in little groups of 3 and 4, The winners of the group would be the strikers, and then the others would keep playing to see who the midfielders and defenders were going to be.
"Rock, paper, scissors, shoot!" After countless draws, there was finally a winner. I looked down at my hand only to see that everyone including myself had chosen rock while Akira chose paper for the fourth time in a row.
"Hahahaha! I knew it! Persistence is the key to success!" He said with a wide bright smile on his face as everyone face palmed. Nobody expected him to always keep playing the same move without even thinking.
We then kept playing for another 30 minutes, as more and more games went on I started realizing how truly amazing I was, up until the very end I broke every single expectation and have shown prowess never seen before.
'I really lost every single game...' I had a hard time believing it, at that point I didn't want to call it luck anymore, it was a full on curse. For my first game in the Blue Lock project, I am going to be the goalkeeper...
"Bahahaha I will be counting on you to keep the cages safe while I do my job as a striker." Akira said while tapping my back and sitting down on the bench of our team's locker room with a silly smile on his face.
"Don't feel too down Jude, I'm sure that you will get more opportunities in the future games. And you're pretty tall so I'm sure you would do amazing hahahaha" Ichikawa said with a big smile on his face.
"I bet I would." I sighed before sitting down on the bench. We still had 20 minutes before the beginning of the game, I could hear everyone chatting about their positions, some were complaining while some were showing off.
Soon enough the 20 minutes went by and our team got ready to enter the stadium, I put on my gloves and went on to join everyone. We entered the big stadium only to find that Team Z's players were already there waiting for us.
'After thinking about it maybe I'm not that unlucky." I thought to myself as an awkward smile formed on my face, it was a mix of frustration and excitement. I couldn't recognize most of the players in front of me but there's one player in team Z who particularly stood out to me.
Not only do I still recognize his face but his windproof glasses made me unable to mistake him for anyone else. The one on one emperor, Kenyu Yukimiya. In the past 3 days, I wasn't able to find out who was in the same block as me but I didn't think I would get the chance to meet someone of this level so soon.
Not only did seeing him make me smile uncontrollably but it also triggered two new quests.
[Side quest: Goalkeeper's ego

Description:
A true striker's ego cannot be shackled by any means whatsoever, prove yourself while being a goalkeeper and still scoring a goal.
Reward: a random D rank special weapon. 10 random pro points.]

Dominate your block by showing everyone who's the best striker by scoring the most goals in your block.
Reward: 30 random pro points and 20 pro points.]
Seeing him was enough to trigger my [Greed] special weapon. As expected of Blue Lock, it's truly the only place in Japan capable of triggering my ego.
"Weren't you depressed 5 minutes ago?" Akira asked me while tilting his head in confusion after seeing me smile.
"Shut up and focus on the game, that might be your last chance to be this team's striker." I said with a smile before going back to my new position for this game.

(Little update to explain the lack of chapters recently: so the thing is that my studies started again last Friday and in those past few days all I was doing was focus on the inscription and buying the furnitures etc etc so in all honesty I didn't have any attention to give to writing and wasn't in the mood for it was so instead I chose to wait until I feel a little better)
