Bab 4: Freedom

"AHAHAHAHHAHA..."

Luviagelita Edelfelt massaged her temple with closed eyes, trying to gather her thoughts after miserably failing at ignoring the neanderthal she'd released, "Are you still not done?"

He'd been cackling at the Sun for what she could only hope was almost half an hour now, his hands held out to either side as he took one deep breath after the other, "No!" Hale answered excitedly, moments away from jumping in joy.

The 'tomb' they'd been in had started collapsing after one of Hale's punches connected with the wall, shattering the structure's stability much like an Earthquake and he'd flung her over his shoulders like a sack of potatoes before rushing out.

She definitely didn't poke him in the eye for it, she definitely wasn't embarrassed either!

"Would I be like that too?" Was the question on Luviagelita's mind at the moment, had she been released after centuries of solitude, would she really be able to maintain her calm and graceful demeanour?

With that in mind, the primitive man's actions made sense, though, Luviagelita sincerely doubted that 'Hale' was a 'man' in the first place, "Flueger, why kill him?" She asked, placing a hand over her chest and heaving a sigh.

The man was a mercenary and a damn good one, he knew the stakes when taking the job but still, she wasn't the sort of heartless magus that wouldn't spare what might have been a needless death a second thought.

"Lady..." Hale deadpanned, and spoke in a disappointed tone, "Do you think I don't know how this works?" He narrowed his eyes and put his hands together, feigning binds, "He snitches to a higher authority and I get locked up for torture in the name of 'study', forget magi, even normal folks would do it. It's a textbook scenario."

Unable to deny his words, Luviagelita relented knowing full well that was exactly how the Mage's Association would respond.

"Wait..." She slightly tilted her head, her expression mildly confused, "What makes you certain I wouldn't do the same."

"The fact that all the nutrients meant for your brain during growth seem to have gone there." Hale pointed a finger at her and following his gaze, Luviagelita realised he was pointing to her chest.

The magus quickly covered her chest, despite there being no need to do so, and blushed in embarrassment, "H-Hm, you think yourself sly?"

"Not really." Hale shrugged, in disbelief that the girl had yet to recognise the precariousness of her current situation, "Did one thing happening after the other jumble your head?"

Smirking, Luviagelita brushed her hair aside, "Of course not. Surely you understand the benefits that come with not choosing the barbaric course of action?"

Flueger was dead, the rest of the expedition team was dead, and she was about the only one who knew the partial truth of his existence. If he killed Fleuger to keep himself secret, it was glaringly obvious that Hale would at least think of killing her too, to leave no risk of unwanted exposure.

But, he'd properly assessed Flueger the less valuable individual and culled numbers before anyone could really do anything to stop him.

"Would you be open to a geis?"

Staring at his sharp-toothed grin with clenched fists, Luviagelita felt that perhaps Flueger had been right, "Bastard... What do you want?" The Edelfelt heir was fully aware of her situation all along, it was just that her doubt had been realised.

Hale was aware of their situation too.

There was just something infuriating about him using her own words.

"You found nothing but an already looted tomb that collapsed from an earthquake soon after you left. Other than that..." Hale put a hand to his chin and hummed, "Clothes, and some money, I guess? Or a well-paying job?" He just wanted to get out and see the world, eat, sleep in a proper comfy bed, do the mundane things in life, eat, for now at least.

Luviagelita Edelfelt was completely dumbfounded by the ambitionless extent of his demands, did he not realise just how connected and ric-... Wait, of course he didn't, "How about a job as an attendant? You'd be paid handsomely." In this way, she could keep an eye on him, do her own research.

"Do I look like someone who'd spend his days serving someone else?" Hale seemed offended, "If I wanted to, I'd say yes to the crackhead who offered me freedom before." The immortal sighed, recalling how his hopes had skyrocketed at the prospect of freedom in exchange for a contract.

Until he read the contents of the contract that was.

'Freedom' meant death at the hands of an immortal slayer and continual summonings at different points across time to work as her executioner.

He'd been aware that people sucked but interacting with humanity's collective subconscious really drove the point home.

Of course that meant it tried to remove him entirely and it would have succeeded if not for the mistress that was the Earth's conscious who offered power and aid in exchange for bringing it back when the time came.

"It'd be an arbitrary position, rest assured. It's just that I can not simply withdraw vast sums of wealth without attracting Grandmother's attention." Luviagelita tried to sell her proposal.

There was this nagging feeling at the back of her mind that told her something horrible would happen if she just left him to his own devices, besides, the curses on his form could prove invaluable to furthering her own standing.

It most certainly was NOT her thinking of him as immature and childish.

"Sure, why not?" Hale shrugged, changing his mind rather quickly. He could always just leave if he felt like it, "Before I completely agree though, is the Clock Tower a place of gathering for the upper echelon?"

"Only the finest are granted admission though, our personal mission is equality of opportunity." Luviagelita came off proud, and why wouldn't she be? The Clock Tower boasted enough military might to decimate smaller nations, and the place where she'd learnt much of what she knew.

"Alright then, maybe I could learn a thing or two."

Hell, he'd hated even reading but right now, his heart betrayed his mind by believing even that would be fun, "I hope there is conflict to be participated in."

"Well you could opt for becoming an Enforcer, with our connections, it'd be smooth sailing, and travel the world while also having something to do." Luviagelita correctly concluded that 'Hale' wasn't a person of pride or grand ambition, more someone who lived in the moment without worry for the future.

That also meant he'd discard her the moment she was no longer interesting in his eyes.

Though, she could be wrong.

"And maybe I can find a hint as to which sick fuck thought this was a good thing to do to person." Hale closed his eyes and inhaled deeply before running a gaze over his surroundings, which happened to be nothing but sand for miles around, oh and sand dunes, "Soooo, how do we get out of here?"

"We wait." Luviagelita mimicked his shrug.

"In the blazing sun?"

"In the blazing sun. Never mind that, how am I meant to explain Flueger?"

"He slipped and fell, accidentally slitting his throat."

"The rest of the members?"

"Accidentally slipped and got crushed under the cave-in."

""...""

.........

SCP people, explain how Able could bring back the Earth.

P.S: The keyword is reset.

This is set a not-so insignificant portion of time before the events of Rail Zeppelin explaining Luvia's somewhat immature behaviour in comparison to the Luvia later on.

100 PS for extra chap?
