Bab 25: War
After the black phantom streaked past, it swiftly materialized in front of Johnny, its savage eyes locking onto him with a hint of challenge.
As the black cloak shattered, Johnny was confronted with the true form of his adversary.
The Lightning Wolf, covered in thick fur, possessed a hunched physique, standing just over a meter tall. Crimson blood dripped from his razor-sharp claws, a sight that seemed to bring him immense satisfaction as he eagerly licked it off.
"It's been too long since I tasted blood... You're too feeble to keep up with my speed. Prepare to meet your end," the Lightning Wolf growled, revealing his merciless nature as his eyes devoured Johnny.
Johnny's expression remained solemn. The adversary's speed was undeniably staggering, leaving Johnny grasping at mere phantoms.
Enemies renowned for their speed were the most formidable.
Flames surged forth from Johnny's arms, engulfing his upper body and incinerating his clothing, exposing his robust physique.
Amidst the rising inferno, Johnny didn't feel the heat, but rather an intense fervor—a product of his battle with the red-bald guy. This marked the first time Johnny wielded his fire control ability in such a manner, unleashing a ferocious effect.
"Bring it on!" Johnny's eyes blazed with nothing but fighting spirit as he charged towards the Flash Wolf.
The fiery aura surrounding him drew the attention of all in the arena. Observing Johnny amidst the flames, the other fighters ceased their own clashes, backing away in fear of attracting the attention of this harbinger of death.
Even the Flash Wolf felt a twinge of apprehension in the face of Johnny's fierce determination. Despite his affinity for darkness, the wolf harbored an instinctual fear of fire.
As Johnny lunged forward, the Flash Wolf swiftly transformed into a phantom, narrowly evading the fireball hurled by Johnny.
Undeterred, Johnny conjured more fireballs in his hands, launching them one after another towards the elusive phantom of the Lightning Wolf, the entire arena echoing with the roar of battle.
As the two figures pursued him relentlessly, Johnny seemed to morph into a blazing comet, fireballs coalescing and erupting from his hands in an unending barrage aimed at the werewolf.
Initially, Flash Wolf, with his formidable and inhuman speed, effortlessly sidestepped Johnny's fiery onslaught. But with time, his relentless pace became an ever-growing burden.
Sustaining such blinding speed continuously exacted a heavy toll on Flash Wolf.
Conversely, Johnny, amidst the fiery chaos he'd unleashed upon the battlefield, exhibited no signs of strain. Instead, he grew increasingly exhilarated, the potency of his fireballs escalating.
This battle epitomized the most thrilling encounter since Johnny's arrival in Saka. His adversary, faced with relentless bombardment, offered no resistance, effectively becoming a moving target, enabling Johnny to unleash his full potential.
Under this relentless assault, every cell in Johnny's body surged with energy, cosmic power saturating his being.
As the fury of the battle reached its zenith, the passion of the spectators erupted.
"The Devourer!"
"The Devourer! End him! End him!"
Though unaware of Johnny's true name, the audience continued to dub him the Devourer. Yet, it became evident that this epithet no longer suited the inferno-clad Johnny.
Within the arena, all other skirmishes came to a halt, leaving only the spectacle of Johnny and Flash Wolf locked in combat.
"I refuse to believe your energy is boundless!"
Gritting his teeth, Flash Wolf maintained his blistering speed, evading Johnny's relentless assault.
Flash Wolf's combat style revolved entirely around speed. Despite his ferocious velocity, his attacks paled in comparison. Meanwhile, the flames engulfing Johnny surged higher, leaving no opening for a decisive blow.
Knowing this, Flash Wolf continued to evade, biding his time until Johnny's reserves dwindled, making him an easy target.
But little did Lightning Wolf know, Johnny's ferocity only intensified with each passing moment, his fire attacks growing more potent.
As the back-and-forth continued, Lightning Wolf grew increasingly desperate. His fleeting burst of physical strength neared depletion, yet Johnny's fiery onslaught showed no sign of abating.
In his anxiety, Lightning Wolf momentarily faltered, allowing a fireball to explode before him.
The powerful blast sent Lightning Wolf airborne, his body singed upon impact with the ground. Exhausted, he could only extinguish the flames through frantic rolling.
Meanwhile, Johnny, despite his violent onslaught, remained eerily composed.
Spotting Lightning Wolf's injury, Johnny's demeanor shifted. The flames dissipated as several ice picks materialized, glinting with deadly intent in the sunlight.
Before the last embers of his fiery energy faded, Lightning Wolf was pierced with searing pain.
"Puff" and "puff" echoed as sharp blades plunged into flesh. Johnny's ice spears impaled Lightning Wolf's limbs, rendering him immobile and howling in agony.
"His second ability... truly surprising!" Grandmaster cheered from the stands, mirroring the excitement of the vast audience.
"Master Grandmaster, should we halt the match? We've invested much in Lightning Wolf's training," Topaz suggested, horror etching his features at Lightning Wolf's unexpected defeat.
"Forget the championship rules?" Grandmaster's tone turned icy, his disgust evident.
Topaz recoiled, sensing Grandmaster's disdain. He dared not speak further, his panic palpable. It was Topaz's idea to pit Lightning Wolf against Johnny in the elimination.
Feeling Grandmaster's disapproval, Topaz's anxiety spiked. Though Grandmaster typically portrayed kindness, Topaz, having served him for years, recognized the underlying ruthlessness.
As elders of the universe, their near-immortal lives diminished the significance of others. To them, everyone was insignificant.
