Bab 41: An Encounter With Kozuki Oden
We kept on sailing for a couple of more weeks before we were hit by a storm. I was napping when I heard thunder rumbling and lighting striking. Stussy was currently doing everything in her power to wake me up. All of the methods were violent.
When I woke up, I instantly calmed the storm that was currently raging at us. The waters of the sea had pushed our ships all the way to an island nearby. By the time I stopped it, the damage had been done.
Whitebeard's ship had some damage that would take days for us to fix. I quickly had the men dock the ship right next to the Moby Dick before hopping off. I found Whitebeard sitting on a barrel and drinking some booze.
The rest of the crew was currently lying on the shore, either recovering from the injuries they incurred during the storm or drying their soaked clothes. Whitebeard laughed loudly as I approached him.
"Boris, what the hell were you doing? The storm was quite ferocious, you know!" Whitebeard boomed. Stussy followed me while retaining her pouting expression, it seemed that she still wouldn't let it go.
"I was sleeping" I replied promptly. I had to find some kind of peace offering for her, pretty as she was. Her petty streak was the worst I have ever seen.
I finished a brief conversation with Whitebeard, telling him that I would explore the island a bit more while they fixed his ship. I briefly set off with Stussy, she had been giving me the silent treatment ever since our last conversation. She'd still cuddle with me while I slept, but other than that: nothing.
As we went through the forest, I started seeing small signs of human habitations. I instantly thought about getting her something nice from the island when I sensed a gigantic presence coming closer to our location.
The presence was not as big as Whitebeard's, however, it wasn't smaller than mine either. I quickly pulled out my axe and kept Stussy behind me, angry or not, her safety was my priority at the moment. Suddenly, A man with hairy legs with a bowl shaped haircut suddenly appeared high in the sky. He withdrew two swords from his sheathe as he lunged at me with a smile.
I greeted his attack by coating my trusty axe with haki and swinging my axe diagonally. Our two weapons collided, causing a shockwave that permeated throughout the entire forest. Due to gravity, he was slowly gaining momentum as he was beginning to land on the ground.
Noting this outcome, I quickly pushed his two blades back. Causing him to do a backflip before landing a couple of meters in front of me. He was a bit taller than I was, and looking at his eyes; I could tell that he was not going to chit-chat before the winner could be decided.
He promptly decided to introduce himself. "Listen foreigner, and listen well! For I am the Guardian of Wano, Kozuki Oden! I will not let you tresspass in our land any further!"
I looked at him speechless before muttering quietly, "I just want to buy a gift, why do things always have to be so complicated?"
I could only hope that Stussy didn't hear what I had just said. Suddenly, I sensed nine more people emerging from the trees. All of them looked familiar to me as I slowly began to recall memories of Kozuki Oden's Nine Scabbards.
Stussy slowly got into a stance as we both began to prepare ourselves for a rather long battle. That's when Oden scolded his retainers for interfering.
"I want to fight him! Don't get in the way of my battle!!" As Oden scolded his retainers. I could hear them release visible sighs of helplessness as they lowered their weapons. I quickly told Stussy to lower hers as well.
As good as Stussy was in combat, Oden's retainers were quite proficient by themselves. Together, they would form a deadly combination. A combination that I knew Stussy couldn't take all alone.
I twirled my axe before swinging it down diagonally, I decided to take the initiative and lunged at the man. His eyes widened as he raised his swords to block the attack, however, the force of the attack made him soar up to the air.
I could hear his retainers scream for his name as he flew up. However, their worries were only met with laughter from Oden. He positioned himself upright before raising his swords and coating them with advanced Ryou as he began his descent.
I heard him scream, "Tougen Totsuka!" As he began to fly right back at me. Looks like he wants to end this in one attack.
I complied with his wish and promptly coated my axe with Conqurer's haki as I began to charge my move as well. I quietly muttered, "Fulgur Vastitas" and swung my axe right up to meet Oden's slash.
Our weapons collided and caused an even greater shockwave that just destroyed our entire surroundings. The retainers along with Stussy could barely hold themselves to the ground as a result of the impact.
Oden stubbornely continued to press forward with his move, and I could only retaliate by pressing forward with my move as well. The ground started to break and form a crater as we continued to collide. I was slowly beginning to get annoyed by this standoff and decided to break the struggle by pushing my axe forward and promptly kicked him in the stomach.
The sudden interruptions caused another shockwave across the entire forest again as Oden slammed across multiple trees in the distance. The man's retainers quickly called out his name before running towards where he flew off.
Dusting off my coat and putting my axe back to its strap. I once again decided to keep moving forward towards the town in the distance. Stussy quietly followed me while looking back at where we collided. It seems that Oden had left quite the impression on her.
When we reached town, I started window shopping for some jewelry. Hoping that Stussy would accept my peace offering, and effectively ending the silent treatment that she was currently punishing me with. Eventually, I found a jewelry store with a rather beautiful gold necklace.
The store owner looked at me with a strange gaze, but said nothing when I dumped a bag of gold coins on his desk. I slowly picked up the necklace as I showed it to Stussy, her expression was joyful at first; but quickly changed into a pout as she tried to resist the gold necklaces temptations.
I kept dangling the necklace right in front of her with a rare kind smile as I tried to break her silent streak. She couldn't hold on for long, she eventually grabbed my necklace before I could react, and urged me to help her put it on.
As we walked out of the store, she was all smiles and giggles. Just the way I loved her.
It was on this month that I had finally turned 20 years old. However, my appearance remained the same. Indicating that I had slow aging, I'm not sure when I would die; but I knew it wasn't anytime soon.
