Bab 2: chapter 2:The abyssal Vault dungeon

Aiden stood at the entrance of his cave-turned-dungeon, the cold breeze of the night brushing against his skin. It had been hours since he set the dungeon's traps and organized the small, dimly lit pathways. Now, all he could do was wait.

No adventurers had come yet.

"What if nobody shows up?" he wondered aloud, pacing around the cave. But he had little time to dwell on doubts.

Dungeon Level 1.

———————————

Aiden's heart raced. He hadn't expected visitors so soon, and the system's alert caught him off guard. Rushing deeper into the cave, he brought up the dungeon interface to track the intruder's movements. It was just a lone adventurer, cautiously making his way toward the first trap.

"Let's see how this works," Aiden whispered, his fingers trembling as he activated the trap.

The adventurer stepped onto a pressure plate, triggering a simple spike pit. But the intruder was quick—too quick. With a swift leap, he avoided the trap and pressed on toward the heart of the dungeon. Aiden frowned.

"Guess I need better traps," he muttered, watching the adventurer approach the dungeon core.

But as the intruder neared the glowing orb at the center of the dungeon, Aiden realized something important: if the core was destroyed, his dungeon—and all his progress—would be lost.

Aiden's mind raced. He had to act fast.

Aiden felt a surge of energy flow through him as the system granted him access to new abilities. He immediately navigated the system's interface, looking for something—anything—that could stop the intruder.

Summoning…

———————————

In front of the dungeon core, a stone figure materialized. At first, it was nothing more than a pile of rocks, but soon it formed into a hulking shape—a golem, twice the size of the intruder.

The adventurer froze, eyes wide with terror, as the golem took its first step. With a single swipe, the golem knocked the adventurer off his feet, sending him scrambling back the way he came. The intruder barely escaped with his life, leaving Aiden's dungeon untouched.

"That was close," Aiden said, wiping the sweat from his brow. He gazed at the golem, now standing motionless by the core, ready for future intruders. It wasn't much, but it was a start.

Dungeon Core: Level 2

New Room Unlocked:

[Control Room]

———————————

Aiden's eyes lit up as the system guided him toward the newly created room. It was a small, stone chamber carved into the side of the cave, furnished with a single chair and a stone pedestal for the dungeon core.

"Finally, a place to operate properly," he said, stepping into the control room. With the Dungeon Points he'd gained, he purchased a core stand, placing the glowing orb securely on its pedestal.

"This is only the beginning," he whispered to himself, a sense of excitement building. With the core evolving and his dungeon expanding, Aiden knew that soon, more adventurers would come—and this time, he'd be ready for them.

Aiden stood in the new Control Room, gazing around the small stone chamber. The space was bare, with nothing but the pedestal holding the dungeon core. The cold, uninviting atmosphere felt a little too empty for his liking.

DP Available: 150

———————————

The Dungeon Points from scaring off that lone adventurer gave him enough to start improving. He swiped through the system interface, scrolling past various options for traps, minions, and room enhancements. Eventually, he landed on the Control Room Decoration tab.

"Let's start here," he muttered. His finger hovered over different options—stone tables, banners, lighting fixtures, and a throne-like chair to match the control room's aesthetic.

. System window.

Purchase: Stone Chair (50 DP).

Purchase: Wall Torches (25 DP).

Purchase: Dungeon Banner (25 DP)

Aiden confirmed the purchases, and within moments, the control room started to change. A large, sturdy chair appeared in front of the core pedestal, the rough stone walls lit up with flickering torches, and banners bearing an unknown symbol hung from the walls, giving the room a sense of authority. The place felt more like a proper command center now.

"That's better," he smiled, sitting down on the stone chair. The system window appeared again, guiding him through the next steps.

——————————————

. System window.

Core Level: 2

Core Material: Wood

Core Evolution Progress: 15%

——————————————

The ranking system caught his eye—Wood was the lowest tier for dungeon cores, and it could eventually evolve into Iron, Gold, Diamond, and finally Netherite, the highest and most powerful core material. For now, he was stuck with Wood, but seeing the progress bar slowly tick upward gave him hope.

The faster his core leveled up, the more he could unlock, and with each evolution, the dungeon would become harder to breach.

"Okay, one step at a time," Aiden thought, feeling slightly more confident.

But then, his attention shifted to the golem, which was still standing motionless near the core. The hulking figure seemed strong, but something about it bothered him. The way it had acted during the adventurer's intrusion—it was slow to react and hadn't done anything unless directly commanded.

"Why didn't it move until the last moment?" Aiden wondered.

——————————————

. System window.

.

Golem Intelligence: Low

Action: Requires Direct Orders

——————————————

Aiden frowned. The golem was powerful, but its intelligence was severely lacking. If he didn't manually direct it, the golem would just stand there like a statue. That wouldn't be enough if a group of adventurers attacked.

He checked the system for upgrades.

—————————————

. System window.

.

Upgrade: Golem Intelligence

Cost: 100 DP

—————————————

"100 DP, huh? That's almost everything I've got," Aiden muttered. But if he didn't spend it on improving the golem, the next adventurer might just waltz in and destroy the dungeon core. After a moment of hesitation, he confirmed the upgrade.

The golem stirred, its eyes flickering with a faint glow as it absorbed the energy from the dungeon core. It stood taller now, its posture more alert, and Aiden could sense the subtle change. It wasn't just a mindless guard anymore—it had the ability to think for itself, at least at a basic level.

—————————————

. System window.

.

Golem Intelligence: Average

New Ability Unlocked:

Autonomous Defense

—————————————

"That's more like it," Aiden said with a grin. The golem now had the ability to defend the dungeon without his direct input, allowing him to focus on other things.

Satisfied, Aiden leaned back in his chair, feeling the weight of his decisions. The dungeon was still small and fragile, but with every DP he earned, every upgrade he made, it would grow stronger. And as the core evolved, so would he.

"This is just the beginning," he whispered to himself, staring at the glowing core. Soon, adventurers would come in droves, and he'd be ready for them.

As Aiden leaned back in his newly purchased stone chair, feeling the satisfaction of his recent upgrades, the system window popped up again, unannounced.

———————————

. System window.

Name Your Dungeon

Reward: 200 DP

———————————

"Name my dungeon?" Aiden blinked at the window, surprised. He hadn't even thought about giving his new domain a name yet. But the reward was tempting—200 DP would give him the chance to summon more creatures or expand his dungeon further. He mulled it over for a moment, thinking of names that could strike fear into future adventurers.

"Let's see... something that sounds menacing, but also gives a hint of mystery," he mused aloud. After a minute of reflection, he snapped his fingers.

"The Abyssal Vault."

————————————————

. System window.

.

Dungeon Name: The Abyssal Vault

Reward: 200 DP

————————————————

"Nice," Aiden grinned as the 200 DP was added to his total. The name echoed in his mind, fitting perfectly with the idea of a dangerous, mysterious labyrinth where adventurers could either strike it rich or meet their doom.

With 250 DP now at his disposal, the system once again prompted him.

——————————————

. System window.

.

Summon Minions Available

Goblin (50 DP)

——————————————

He considered his options. The golem was a powerful guardian, but having more versatile, agile creatures to patrol the dungeon would be useful. Goblins, though small, were notorious for their cunning and teamwork. He decided to summon two.

"Two goblins should be enough for now," Aiden said, selecting the option in the system window.

——————————————

. System window.

Summon: 2 Goblins (100 DP)

Remaining DP: 150

——————————————

In a flash of light, two squat, green-skinned creatures materialized in front of him. They stood barely three feet tall, with pointed ears and sharp teeth, clutching crude stone knives in their hands. The goblins eyed Aiden warily before kneeling, recognizing him as their master.

"Alright, you two are in charge of guarding the entrance for now," Aiden instructed, pointing toward the cave opening. The goblins grunted in agreement and scurried off to take their positions. He couldn't help but feel a sense of satisfaction as his dungeon started to come together. With the golem and the goblins now under his command, The Abyssal Vault was slowly becoming a force to be reckoned with.

---

Before he could relax, the system window reappeared, offering more insights.

————————————————

. System window.

Core Level: 2

Golem Intelligence: Average

Goblin Patrol Active

Core Abilities Unlocked:

Create New Room (Cost: 100 DP)

————————————————

"A new room?" Aiden's eyes lit up. The idea of expanding the dungeon was thrilling. With 150 DP left, he had enough to unlock it and still have some points to spare.

He quickly selected the option.

—————————————-

. System window.

Room Creation Available

Choose Room Type:

Treasury (Holds Gold)

Armory (For Minions' Gear)

Lair (Minion Rest Area)

—————————————

"Interesting," Aiden muttered, weighing the choices. The Treasury sounded enticing, but without much treasure yet, it would be an empty room. The Armory could provide weapons and armor for his minions, giving them an edge in combat. The Lair would be a place for his goblins to rest and recuperate, keeping them ready for future battles.

"I'll go with the Armory for now. No point in having weak minions," he decided, selecting the Armory option.

The system window flashed, and the floor beneath him rumbled as part of the cave wall shifted, revealing a passage leading deeper into the dungeon. Aiden walked through the narrow corridor and entered a newly-formed stone chamber, shelves and racks lining the walls where weapons and armor would eventually be stored.

———————————

. System window.

Armory Room Created

Remaining DP: 50

———————————

Aiden inspected the room, already picturing it filled with powerful equipment. His dungeon was slowly evolving, and each decision he made would shape its future.

As he returned to the control room, he couldn't help but feel more confident in the growing strength of The Abyssal Vault. With the core, the golem, the goblins, and now the armory, his dungeon was no longer just a cave—it was a real challenge for any adventurer daring enough to enter.

Now, all he had to do was wait for the next group of adventurers to stumble upon his creation.

Aiden had just finished checking the new Armory when the familiar system window popped up again, this time with a more serious tone.

———————————————

. System window.

.

New Quest Available:

Personal Challenge

Reach Dungeon Level 5

Defeat a Party of Adventurers

Reward: 500 DP, New Minion Type

————————————————

Aiden's eyes widened as he read the details of the quest. Defeat an entire party of adventurers? That sounded more dangerous than anything he'd faced so far. His dungeon was still in its early stages, and though he had a golem and a couple of goblins, they were nowhere near capable of handling a group of well-equipped, experienced adventurers—at least not yet.

"Level 5... so I have some time to prepare," he muttered. But what really caught his attention was the reward. 500 DP and a new type of minion would give him a serious advantage. The quest felt like a looming storm on the horizon, but it was also an opportunity for growth.

———————————————

. System window.

.

Tip: Use DP wisely to upgrade

minions and traps. Prepare well.

———————————————

"Great advice, I guess," Aiden muttered, already feeling the pressure. He looked around his dungeon—still small, rough, and clearly lacking in defenses. His goblins and golem were solid, but a strong adventurer party would tear through them without breaking a sweat. He had to be smart about this.

"Okay," he said, determined, "time to get strategic."

The first thing he did was go back to the core room. The core was slowly radiating a faint glow, and as it hummed with life, Aiden felt the connection between himself and the dungeon strengthen. As the core leveled up, so did his influence, and now that he had a clear goal, it was time to step up his game.

---

He pulled up the system window and began browsing through the options.

———————————————

. System window.

DP: 50

Available Purchases:

.

Traps (Cost: 30 DP)

Upgrade Minions (Cost: 50 DP)

Decorations (Cost: 20 DP)

———————————————

"Alright, I need to think about how to slow down a party. Traps could work, but upgrading my minions should be the priority," Aiden decided. His golem, while strong, wasn't exactly the brightest creature. The goblins were quick but unorganized. Upgrading their intelligence or strength would be a key step in getting them ready for a real fight.

With that thought in mind, he selected Upgrade Minions and used his remaining 50 DP.

———————————————

. System window.

Upgrading Golem Intelligence...

Intelligence increased to 10

———————————————

"Let's see if that makes a difference," Aiden muttered. He'd noticed the golem was slower to respond to his commands earlier, but with a bit more intelligence, it might be able to anticipate threats and act on its own.

---

Just as he was about to leave the room and explore more, another system notification appeared, causing him to groan. But this time, it wasn't a warning.

——————————————

. System window.

Core Level 2: Progress 70%

Current Popularity: 5

.

Tip: Gaining more popularity

will draw stronger adventurers,

and increase dungeon challenges.

————————————————

"Popularity, huh?" Aiden mused. He had forgotten that the dungeon's renown would also play a role in its development. More adventurers coming to test their mettle would increase his dungeon's popularity—and while that meant more DP, it also meant stronger and smarter opponents.

Suddenly, the cave outside grew darker, and Aiden sensed movement near the entrance. He cautiously stepped forward, peering out toward the mouth of the cave. To his surprise, he saw the flicker of torches in the distance. His heartbeat quickened.

"Already? Adventurers?" Aiden squinted as he noticed three figures approaching. They weren't fully equipped knights, but they looked like beginner adventurers—maybe a scouting party. If he played this right, they could serve as an early test for his dungeon.

———————————

. System window.

WARNING!

Intruders Detected

Dungeon Level: 1

Adventurer Level: 3

————————————

Aiden took a deep breath. This was it. His first real challenge. "Let's see what The Abyssal Vault can do."

---

The goblins stirred at the entrance, their eyes gleaming with excitement as they spotted the intruders. Aiden commanded them to stay hidden, waiting for the right moment. The golem stood in the shadows deeper in the cave, its stone fists ready to crush any who dared to enter.

As the adventurers approached, Aiden couldn't help but feel a rush of anticipation. His dungeon was still weak, but this battle would be a small taste of the greater challenge to come.

Would he be ready for the day when a real adventurer party—stronger, smarter, and deadlier—came for him?

For now, though, Aiden smiled. "Let's get started."
