Bab 3: Chapter 3
"You suspect I'm cheating?"
"If I wanted to cheat, would I have waited until now? Is your brain filled with water?"
Alec exploded, unleashing a barrage of angry insults.
The more arrogant he acted, the more it proved his guilt.
I didn't respond, which infuriated him further.
He grabbed a condom from nearby and hurled it at me. I instinctively raised my hand to block it.
The IV needle was completely dislodged, and the sharp edge cut my forehead.
He stood there stammering for a while, his eyes falling on the needle mark on my hand:
"You really were hospitalized?"
Confusion and guilt flashed briefly in his eyes: "I thought you were lying to me..."
I kept my lips sealed, not responding, which angered him even more:
"Elowen, what's with the silent treatment! If you want a divorce, just say it!"
"Go out and find another man who'd stick by a sick person like you for three years!"
"You'd better divorce me now, I can still take the assets and our daughter to find someone else!"
Alec stormed out without looking back, slamming the door so hard it shook the walls.
I turned around numbly, mechanically packing my clothes.
But at the bottom of the suitcase, I saw a white lace panty that didn't belong to me.
The moment I picked it up, I could no longer hold back my tears.
When Alec proposed to me years ago, we had nothing. Even the engagement rings were bought with money I borrowed. Back then, he said he'd owe me for a lifetime.
But now, a new diamond ring has been given to another woman.
When I was undergoing chemotherapy, I said I wanted to go to Hawaii afterward. He promised he'd accompany me.
But now, he's gone there with another woman.
I turned around and saw Lily standing in the doorway.
Her expression was cold: "Why did you make Dad leave again?"
"No wonder Dad likes Aunt Melody. She only ever makes Dad happy!"
With a slam, she slammed the door shut.
In the vast living room, only I remained.
I'm not even dead yet, but my child and husband have already become someone else's.
I sneered as I took out a bag and packed all of Melody's things from the suitcase.
The next day, I brought them to Melody's dance studio.
Her dance studio is right across from Alec's company.
"Elowen, why did you trouble yourself to bring these over?"
"I'm so busy and forgetful, I packed them in the wrong place. You and Alec aren't having any problems, are you?"
I pretended not to see the schadenfreude in her eyes.
"No."
I returned to my office, deliberately leaving the door ajar to watch outside.
Sure enough, the first thing Alec did was run across the street.
A few minutes later, he came out, his face beaming. Then he walked into my office, speaking to me in a placating tone.
Seeing I wasn't much interested, he tossed something onto my desk:
"This is a gift I got for you from Hawaii. I forgot to give it to you yesterday."
"And I've made an appointment for the will notarization."
My eyes were unfocused as I stared at the computer screen.
Always notarization.
His designs on my assets were so obvious, they might as well have been smacking me in the face.
Years ago, my mother left me some money and a house. He'd been eyeing these things for several years now.
I never thought that as soon as my health declined, he'd start pushing me to get it notarized.
I had assumed it was for the kid, but now it doesn't seem so simple.
I glanced at the gift. They'd even misspelled my name on it.
There was even a piece missing from one corner.
"Thank you," I said.
Without so much as a glance at him, I picked it up and tossed it in the trash.
Alec's eyes flashed with anger:
"What's that supposed to mean?"
I wiped my hands and looked up at him:
"That's not my name written on it."
Alec took a closer look, his expression darkening:
"So they made a mistake. Did you have to throw it away?!"
