章 9: Flight
The next day found Alex standing at he top of a tree looking out over the clearing he calls home.
"Welp, better get the training wheels off" He said, trying to pump himself up.
He knew he wasn't high enough to seriously hurt himself, so it didn't take to much "pumping up".
'Hell, I wonder if it would even hurt at all now that my body has reached Warrior Rank: A' he wondered.
Not thinking about it anymore, he leapt off the tree and unfurled his wings.
His first time supporting his weight on his wings was harder than he thought it should be.
'Damnit, guess controlling new muscles under stress is harder than one would think'. This thought raced through his head as the ground approached faster than it should.
Flailing his wings, he managed to slow his decent before he hit the ground.
"That's probably how a newborn chick that falls out of the nest feels" he said to himself as he dusted his clothes off.
Deciding he should actually practice moving his wings and wondering why he just thought of it now, he began going through exercises.
Flapping his wings randomly and in special ways he tried getting a feel for what affect the different techniques would have on flight.
At one point he even managed to get a little lift-off, so he knew he was on the right path.
Deciding that he was ready to go again, he quickly climbed his trusty tree.
Once at the top he didn't hesitate and leapt off.
This time he found it much easier to control his decent.
He started moving his wings slightly to enter a controlled glide.
After a safe landing on the ground, he was ecstatic.
He could now glide!
Knowing what to expect during free fall, he now wanted to try flapping his wings during the drop.
Not wasting anytime he climbed the tree again and quickly jumped off.
Unfurling his wings and using all his strength in a mighty push, he propelled himself into the air.
"WOAH!!" he exclaimed "I was not expecting a single flap to get me so high".
The single beat of his wings with all his strength put him at about 200' in the air, almost twice the height of the tree.
Not wanting to waste the opportunity of being so high he quickly went through a couple of the flapping motions he had discovered might be beneficial.
Quickly finding the right rhythm to keep him at the same altitude, he went on to test different ways to move through the air and also gain altitude.
It did not take much trial and error to get to a point he was happy with.
He knew he still had a ways to go to become a master of the sky, but he could not help letting out a big long yell of pure happiness!
"I CAN FLY!! Ahahaha!" he cried out as he started climbing higher while doing circles.
He found that if he used his max strength he could gain altitude impressively fast.
When he thought he was about a 1 Km (3280 feet) in the air he stopped is climb and started to look at the world he was in.
Green as far as the eye could see, he marveled at its majesty.
Spinning in the direction of Hargeon, he was easily able to see the ocean.
Even with his enhanced vision he couldn't make out much of the city, but he could still see a rough outline of the biggest buildings.
After seeing a massive mountain range to the west, with Hargeon to the east, he finally had a pretty good idea of where he was.
'I Wonder if I should swing over to Cait Shelter Guild and get Wendy and Carla before making my way to Fairy Tail' He thought.
"I already know, I'm going to wreck the timeline anyway, how much will it hurt to start early! Haha" He chuckled to himself.
He knew Wendy would be much happier in Fairy Tail, and he also wanted to test the full destructive power of his {Fel-Fire}.
The weapon Nirvana seemed like as good a target as any to test pure destruction.
It was huge, and needed to go anyway. That kind of magic was bad news.
"As a bonus I might be able to let the old ghost rest early" He mumbled.
It was a total whim to go get Wendy, it wasn't something he thought he would do if he came to this world.
The more he thought about the idea, the more he liked it though.
She was a sweet girl with a very fine character.
Honestly, with her shy and polite demeaner, she reminded Alex a lot of his little sister from a lifetime ago.
'Damn, I must be getting homesick' he thought.
Quickly shaking those thoughts out of his head as they would pull him to a place he didn't want to go if he could help it. He made up his mind.
He would take a trip to the Worth Wood-Sea to see if there was something his magic could do against Nirvana.
Only if he could Destroy the weapon would he take Wendy with him.
She would probably be his responsibility anyway as the Old ghost wouldn't really have anything else keeping him tethered to the world of the living.
He very much doubted that any members of the Oración Seis would be hanging around the Worth Wood-Sea right now, so he would probably have free rein of the place.
Thinking of the size of fire the city on legs would create had Alex smiling like a lunatic.
"Jeez! I'm turning into a damn pyromaniac!" he said aloud when he realized his own thoughts.
'I wonder if that is a side affect of being a Fire Demon... No, come to think about it, I always did like fire, even in my past life'.
After coming out of his thoughts and noticing how far away he has gotten from his camp, he decided to head back and get some meditation in.
He was not in a hurry to live this life, and already had a few plans to mess up or delay the timeline.
He was here for his own adventure after all.
If he could make his own adventure more enjoyable for himself, he didn't mind wrecking a few peoples plans.
Hell, with a Magic as Destructive and crazy as {Fel-Fire} it probably wouldn't take much effort.
Most things in this world resistant to magic because of their own Ethernano, would find that very same Ethernano as the catalyst to its own destruction.
It was a Magic that targeted the very make-up of other magics and even the natural elements birthed from Primal Mana.
'Straight up freaking Cheat' Alex thought as he reached his campsite.
