"When did this Gengar started to follow us?" I asked curiously with my guard up against the old hag. Golbat was not again able to detect this old hag. How does she do that? Did she know about everything I said like planning to betray the clan when I had a talk with Liz? Maybe she did. I'm doomed if that is the case.
"Since the start. I know everything since the start of your journey. I have a Crobat that talks with Gengar then my Crobat will pass the message that Gengar has. My Gengar is quite intelligence since it can write letters." The old hag replied then sat in front of us while her Gengar laughed then hid in her shadow.
"So, you know everything that happened? Why did your Gengar not save Liz when the Parasect appeared? Or when the Johto region attacked why did it not help the people?" I asked curiously. I mean her Gengar has a power level of Grand level (2nd tier). The pokemon can definitely save some people, and maybe even help buy some time for Spada to arrive.
"Well, I told Gengar to do what he wants. If he wants to interfere with your journey then he can but he did not. He was testing you anyway like me. Also, you have to remember to not be disrespectful to your elders, kid." The old hag answered with a frown.
"Sorry, Grandma Moi. But how can you have a Gengar when our clan don't raise that kind of pokemon?" I asked.
"Obviously, I caught it from outside the clan. You already have a plan to have two different pokemon from the clan, kid. An Happiny and Growlithe egg, right? Don't worry you can raise those after the trials." The old hag replied.
I nodded then turned quiet. I tried to digest everything that is happening right now. I feel like I'm naked infront of this old hag and it was not a pleasant thing to feel.
"Liz, I'm dissatisfied with your action earlier. I'll forgive you this time but don't go talking about something that should not be spoken. You're lucky you're a person Myne got attached to or else I would have finished you right here." The old hag said with a frowning face. Liz has a scared look then started saying 'thank you' and 'sorry' repeatedly.
"Enough, little girl. Go and fetch me some food. I'll talk with this kid for a while." The old hag said then Liz left with hurried steps.
"Alright kid, let's talk about my plan of making you my disciple. Do you want to be my disciple, little one?" The old hag asked.
"What would I get from being your disciple? Also, what would you get from making me your disciple?" I asked her.
"Still the greedy kid as before. Well, you'll get resources, status, and information. You'll also get to train under me instead of being trained by the clan for 5 years after your trial. Look at Myne, she is staying at our house since I registered her as my disciple in the clan." She answered.
"That's sounds great, Grandma Moi. But you didn't answered my second question. What would you get from this?" I asked her.
"Hmph, disrespectful. If you're not that talented, I might have punished you already. Anyway, in the next 6 years, there will be a disciple battle between the elders. The grand elder of our clan is dying because of old age, and we need someone who will replace the grand elder. So, everyone decided to make a contest where the elder's disciple will fight, and the disciple that wins will make his/her master the grand elder. Don't worry though since this fight is not a death battle but it's still allowed to kill your opponent if you want to." The old hag explained while Liz returned together with some food for her. She smiled at Liz then started to eat.
"What is this disciple contest, Grandma Moi?" I asked her curiously.
"Well, it's like the trial that you'll encounter in a few weeks. The disciple contest is about letting you stay in an arena then it's an all out battle between all of the disciple. There are no rules in there but just knocking out everyone or killing them. The last man standing on the arena will be the winner." She explained.
"Why not send Myne then, Grandma Moi? Wouldn't she be stronger than me?" I asked her. I mean Myne is 4 or 5 years ahead of me so she is going to be powerful instead of me. Also, add that she is being given resources and teachings from this old hag.
"You want me to send my granddaughter to a match where she can possibly die? It's better to send you compared to her. I would not even want to join this event but this is involuntary. The clan will otherwise punish me if I don't join it." The old hag explained. So, I'm like a sacrificial lamb that is a substitute for that girl. I would also not want this. I mean what are the ages of the other disciple of the elders.
If the other opponents have like a 10 year age gap with me, and they are trained from the early age then my chances of winning will be small.
"How old are my other opponents, Grandma Moi?" I asked while she was eating some sparrow meat.
"Hmm, still more questions. You don't have to worry since they are most likely at the same age of Myne. They would have an advantage but with your talent and my teaching you'll be able to match them. Besides, I'm the greatest elder there is compared to the other 4. I'm not even bragging on that though." The old hag said with a wide smile. That smile didn't make me feel better when I saw it though.
"Can I refuse being your disciple, Grandma Moi?" I asked.
"What do you think?" The old hag said then continued eating. I sighed from hearing her answer since I'm forced again from a situation I don't like.
"Liz, your cooking is still the best. I would have assigned you to Myne as a personal maid but I have to give Rem some incentive from being my disciple!" The old hag said then started to laugh.
