章 6: Lost Innocence And Training
It's been a few hours since Max and Scarlet began their journey, and so far, nothing really interesting has happened.
"You really did that?"

"I'm flattered... Hey look, why don't we rest in that little clearing?" Max proposed while pointing at an open area beside the road.
[Sure thing. I sure could use a small break.]
Leaving the road, both of them walked towards the clearing. A couple of steps later, they were in a very peaceful zone with trees forming a circle shape.
"This place is perfect. Come on out, girls, and have fun." Max called, letting Bonny and Dusk out of their respective pokeball.
"Buneary!" Bonny exclaimed happily.
"Fenn." Dusk greeted shyly.
"Bonny, I want you to meet Dusk, our new traveling partner. Dusk, this is Bonny, your new friend."
Bonny then greeted Dusk enthusiastically. Dusk, on her part, backed up a bit in shyness before greeting her too.
"Easy, Bonny, she's very shy and has a bit of trouble around strangers. Be nice to her, please."
"Buneary!" She proudly responded.
"Okay, girls, you can go play around or rest here with us, but don't go too far, understand?" He informed, putting down his backpack.
After both of them nodded, Bonny energetically dragged Dusk a bit further away to play.
[That's so cute. You almost look like a father.] Scarlet softly commented, embracing him.
"Phff. No, I don't." Max denied a bit of embarrassment while looking at them playing together.
[Ooh, come on, master. I'm sure you would be a good father.]
"..."
[Master?...] She asked, feeling a sliver of melancholy.
"...Well, being a pokemon trainer is the closest thing I'll have as a father."
[What do you mean?]
"I'm pretty sure that humans and pokemon don't have DNA compatibility."
[Oh... True. So it means I'll never be able to be a mother.] She stated, sharing a small portion of his feelings.
"Not necessarily, Scarlet. You can still go with a gallade for that."
[What?! Me?! Going and doing that kind of stuff with someone else?! Over my dead body! I prefer to never be a mother than mating with anyone else that isn't you.] Scarlet protested, very annoyed by the idea.
"I didn't say to stay forever with one, but just long enough so you can get pregnant."
[Not a chance, master!] The gardevoir argued fervently.
"...Alright." Max conceded. "Heh, you can't argue with a woman, anyway."
[You're a very smart human. Besides, DNA incompatibility has its benefits.]
"Like what?"
[We can do it like beasts at any time we want.]
"Hmm, good point."
[A really good one, which reminds me: we haven't done it since we left that hotel. I bet you're all stocked up down there.] Scarlet told him with a lewd face.
"N-Not from just one day of rest," Max replied a bit embarrassingly.
[No complaints. You have an injury that Nurse Scarlet must take care of. Come with me.]
After her last words, Scarlet pulled Max to the woods, away from the innocent eyes of their little pokemon. But what they didn't see is that Bonny saw them leave and was curious where to.
"Bunea, bun buneary." Bonny proposed to Dusk, pointing at where they went.
"Fenne, fennekin."
"Buneary."
Bonny was curious where they were going but Dusk a bit less, thinking that if they left them alone, it was for a reason. However, curiosity stung Bonny hard and she wanted to follow them. Dusk was reluctant about the idea, but Bonny managed to convince her by saying that it will be a good opportunity to know their trainer better. Silently going where their master and the gardevoir went, they took the same path as them. A moment later and hiding in a bush, they finally found them… and they were doing something they couldn't have ever expected.
Max had his back against a tree and Scarlet was on her knees in front of him with his hard member in her mouth, holding it with her two hands. "Oh. That would explain why Dusk is asleep." Max stated, looking at Dusk.
[Yeah. We should just let them rest. Let's prepare dinner in the meantime.]
"...Ooh, darn it! I forgot to buy some rations!" Max exclaimed, a bit disappointed in himself.
[Don't worry, there's plenty of food in the woods. We just have to go do some gathering.]
"...That will do, I suppose. Okay, girls, be nice and wait for us. We won't take long to bring food," Max announced.
"Bunnea." Bonny replied with a nod.
"Alright, Scarlet, lead the way. You're the pokemon, after all." Max said while leaving with Scarlet.
[Oh, I'm so offended right now.]
After a moment, Bonny wasn't able to hear and see them anymore. Not knowing what to think or do, Bonny decided that it could be good to take a bath. She left Dusk in her ashamed trance and went to look for a water source. Getting a bit further in the woods, Bonny found a small water stream that she could use to clean herself. After she got into it slowly, she began to rub herself everywhere. When done, she stayed in there a bit to relax and reflect on what she just witnessed. She was intrigued by the 'mating' thing, but strangely, more to her master. She didn't expect to be interested that much in a human body. Thinking about him that way, she felt her twitching coming back. For now, she decided to push those thoughts away and left the water stream. After drying herself, she headed back to the clearing. When back, she noticed that Dusk was still resting near the same tree, but now she seemed to be sleeping, resting her head on top of her front paws. Bonny decided to sit under the same tree as earlier to rest as well and wait for her master to come back, falling asleep a few minutes later. A little while later, both she and Dusk were awakened by Max's voice.
"Wake up, girls. We have some food for everyone." Max announced, entering the clearing with Scarlet.
"...Bunne?" Bonny inquired, a bit sleepy.
"Here, Bonny; Oran berries for you," Max said while handing her three berries.
"Bun!" She thanked him.
"You're welcome," Max replied with a smile.
"And for you, Dusk; Jala berries, a favorite among fire-type pokemon," Max concluded, handing the same amount of berries.
"F-Fen." She also thanked him, avoiding his gaze.
"Is something the matter, Dusk?"
"Fenn." Dusk replied before turning around with one of the fruit in her mouth.
"Huh?..."
[Don't worry, master. I'm sure she's just not used to you yet.] Scarlet guessed.
"...Alright, if you say so. I'm sorry we didn't find your favorite fruit, though."
[Yeah. Like it was your fault.] She answered back sarcastically. [Those we found are fine.]
"...Okay. I believe you know yourself better than me."
At that, both of them sat under a nearby tree and began to eat their food. Bonny and Dusk ate all of theirs, and Max and Scarlet as well. When finished, Max wanted to take a nap in the shadow of the tree. As soon as Max got comfortable, Scarlet stuck herself to him before going for a hug. Wanting to nap near her master as well, Bonny went and sat on the other side of Max and rested her body against him. Neither Max nor Scarlet seems to be bothered by her company, which made her happy. After half an hour, they were all fully rested. As they were all stretching or yawning, an idea struck Max.
"Hey, Scarlet, why don't we start training the team for battles? The next town is still a few days away, so maybe we can make you and the others stronger in the meantime."
[I don't need to get stronger since I won't battle.]
"Maybe not you, but Bonny and Dusk can. What do you say, girls, do you want to get stronger?" Max asked his buneary and fennekin.
"Buneary," Bonny answered happily.
"...Fenn." Dusk reluctantly replied, not sharing the same enthusiasm as Bonny.
"It's okay, Dusk, you don't have to train if you don't want to," Max assured, petting her head.
She looked at him a moment before looking away.
"Fenn."
She seemed happy that she didn't have to fight, but at the same time, a bit sad for disappointing her trainer.
"I guess we'll train you then, Bonny."
"Bunea!" The small brown pokemon replied enthusiastically.
"But how are you gonna train without a sparring partner?" Max pondered.
After a moment, Scarlet grew impatient.
[Alright, I'll help her.] Scarletproposed.
"I thought you didn't want to fight."
[I'm not fighting, I'll train her. Totally different.]
"If you are fine with that. Thank you." Max said gratefully with a smile.
[Just wait until tonight to properly thank me.] Scarletlewdly replied with a wink.
"Will do."
They then moved to the middle of the clearing to have as much space as possible. When in place, both Max and Scarlet had a few meters of distance between each other with Dusk beside Max and Bonny was in the middle, facing the gardevoir.
"Okay, now I just have to activate this thing..." Max mumbled while staring at his ergowatch.
The device had three buttons on it; a blue one, a green one, and a red one.
"Let's try the blue one." He mumbled again while pressing it.
The device then processed a bit before showing on the screen "Synchronization failed. Please make sure that you are close enough to your opponent".
"Oh. Must have been the trainer fight option."
Max then pressed the green one. The screen then showed: "Please point at which pokemon you want to protect". Max then pointed the lens on top of the watch towards Bonny. After processing the information, a blue light appeared from the lens, which made Bonny flash in blue for a second.
"Nice. I think it worked. Now your turn, Scarlet."
Max wanted to point at her, but she interrupted him.
[I don't need it.] She refused.
"What? You sure?"
[Don't worry, I have my psychic powers to protect me. Even if I didn't have them, she's not strong enough to hurt me, anyway.]
"Good thing she can't hear you. Alright then, let's begin."
[I'm ready whenever you are.] She told him while crossing her arms.
"Okay, Bonny, use… use…" Max stammered, a bit lost.
[*sigh* Let me guess, you don't know what she can do, right?] Scarletcommented, discouraged.
"Hem, well… t-the pokedex does. I just need to…" He trailed off, feeling like a fool.
Max then withdrew his pokedex and pointed it at Bonny. After scanning her, Max went to the 'personal information' option.
"Okay, let's see: she's 5 years old and has a brave nature. Good to know. Gender: Female; Height: 1.5 ft.; Weight: 14 lbs; has the 'Klutz' ability... Ah, known moves: Tackle, Ear Punch, and… Flail. I should check in detail about that move later. For now, I'm confident in what the first two moves do."
Putting away his pokedex, Max was now ready to resume the battle.
"Okay, Bonny, use Tackle."
Bonny then charged towards Scarlet and tried to tackle her, but Scarlet easily dodged it, which made Bonny strike nothing but air.
"Tackle again, Bonny."
The buneary then tried to tackle the red gardevoir again, adding more speed in her move. Unfortunately, Scarlet dodged again pretty easily.
"Not good. Try to add Ear Punch right after Tackle." Max commanded.
Bonny then charged again at Scarlet but stopped when she was just a few inches from her and immediately chained with Ear Punch. Since she anticipated a slow chain attack, Scarlet was caught off guard and had no time to block the Ear Punch, the attack making direct contact with her. However, even if Bonny touched her, a barrier was preventing Scarlet from receiving any physical damage.
"Keep going, Bonny! Chain with more Ear Punches." Max encouragingly ordered.
Bonny then furiously hit Scarlet's barrier multiple times with her ears, but to no avail. Scarlet wasn't even moving back and Bonny was growing tired. Then, Scarlet took this opportunity to back away and prepare a Psybeam attack.
"Don't hit her too hard, Scarlet." Max loudly called.
[Who do you think I am? I'm not stupid.]
Then Scarlet launched a Psybeam at Bonny. The attack was indeed weaker than the one that Max almost got in the face when he first met her. Bonny was then propelled away by the attack one meter or two, barely able to properly land on her feet. She didn't have any injuries but now seemed more tired and was just feeling slight pain. Easily able to endure it, Bonny stood up and was ready for another command.
"Okay, let's try this. Bonny, use Flail."
Bonny then launched herself towards the gardevoir and flailed aimlessly at her. Scarlet defended herself again with the barrier but felt that the attack was a bit stronger than her last Ear Punches, but managed to block it effectively, nonetheless. When she was done being attacked, Scarlet riposted with a tiny Shadow Ball. When the ball made contact with the little buneary, it exploded in a weird and almost creepy bang sound, leaving thousands of black particles that were quickly disappearing in the air. The explosion, however, didn't have any knock-back power, but it made Bonny collapse on the ground a few seconds later. She was still conscious and tried to stand up but was unable to, too exhausted.
"Bonny!... You alright?" Max blurted after he dashed towards her to pick her up, cradling her.
"Bun." She weakly answered.
[Don't worry, she's fine. She doesn't have any strength left. At least we know that the device works. Normally, my last attack leaves a black burn mark after disintegrating a piece of my opponent.]
"Oookay, that's a bit gruesome and specific, but yeah, at least we now know for sure that with this device, we can really get them stronger without risking their life. I'm really glad to have it. Alright, Bonny, you should take it easy for a moment."
"Bunea." She tiredly responded.
Max then wanted to drop her in the shadow of a tree but Bonny refused.
"Buneary!" She protested while sticking up to her master.
"You want to stay in my arms?"
"Bunea." She answered while nodding.
"Okay, girl, as you wish." Max complied, scratching her head.
[Heheh, she seems to feel better already.] Scarletcommented with a smile.
"I suppose they recover pretty quickly after a battle."
[Or maybe being close to you gives her an energy boost.] She added with a grin.
"How exactly?"
[Don't know. Just a random feeling.] Scarlet retorted, feigning ignorance.
"Okay, then. Oh, and I just remembered: you told me that you could do something concerning the language barrier with my team, right? What was it?"
[Oh, yeah. I think we can get into that once she recovers.]
"Good. I'm counting on you."
Max then sat on the ground for a little while until Bonny fell asleep in his arms.
[Alright, master, you can drop her at the shadow and we can begin.]
"Understood."
Max then gently put his pokemon down so as not to wake her up. After succeeding, he walked towards Scarlet a bit further ahead, who was now sitting on her knees.
[Have a seat.] Scarlet instructed, motioning him to sit in front of her.
While sitting, Max felt his heart beating harder, feeling a bit nervous due to the anticipation of not knowing what was coming next. Dusk was a bit curious, so she sat close to them and watched.
[It's not dangerous or harmful, so relax. It will also make things a lot easier for me.] Scarlet assured.
"...Okay. So, what's your plan to help me?" He asked after taking a deep breath.
[I'll transfer my knowledge directly to your brain. I have never done this before, but I do know how to start. However, since a brain is quite complex, even a human one, it will take me some time.]
"Alright. I trust you, Scarlet." Max shared, slightly reassured.
[I know. Now, close your eyes and relax as much as possible. You will probably feel discomfort at first as my mind is entering yours. I will ask you not to fight it, okay?]
"O-okay," Max replied while closing his eyes and tried to empty his mind.
[Okay. Here I go.]
Scarlet then put her hands on Max's head and closed her eyes as well. Then, a second later, Max felt the uncomfortable presence she talked about in his head, like it was trying to scan and search for every piece of information. Doing as told and knowing that it was Scarlet, Max only resisted a bit unconsciously. After some time, he was able to adapt to the presence and was letting it move through his mind freely. More minutes passed and the presence was more comfortable to deal with, reminding Max of the experience of when you're tied up, you end up hurting yourself when you struggle. Then, the presence suddenly stopped moving around, as if it found what it was searching for. Next, Max felt his mind going a bit numb and entered in a sort of trance. He wasn't feeling the presence any more, but in its place, he felt a calm and relaxing feeling. And then, feeling like it was just a moment ago that they started, Scarlet was now bringing his conscience back to the real world. He opened his eyes, noticing that the sun was setting.
"Whoa… huh? Where… happen?" Max groaned, more confused than he should.
[Easy now. Let your mind come back to you.] Scarlet guided.
Max rubbed his eyes while his mind was slowly getting back to normal.
"What happened?" Max asked, now more coherently.
[I transferred my knowledge to you as I said, but I had to trap your mind in order to do so. Kind of like anesthesia for your mind.]
"W-why?"
[Because your subconscious would have fought back, like an immune system to disease. It would also have made the data transfer painful for your mind.]
"Oh. Glad to hear that you really knew what you were doing."
[Did you ever doubt me?] She questioned with a proud smile.
"Well, you did tell me you've never done that before... But I know you would have done your best to not hurt me. But who knows? a nasty surprise could've surged since humans and pokemon aren't the same."
[It was indeed a possibility. Don't worry, I can understand how doubtful you were about this.]
"So, now I can understand pokemon?"
[Well, not exactly. Turns out that it was more difficult and exhausting than expected. I was only able to make you understand the evolutionary line of bunearies and fennekins. You should give it a try with Dusk and Bonny.]
Max didn't notice at first because she was hiding it pretty well, but she was certainly looking very exhausted.
"Very well. For now, it will be more than enough. You deserve a good rest."
[Good idea. I just need to… set up the tent and…]
Scarlet had more and more trouble hiding her exhaustion, her body and voice growing weaker.
"No, you don't. I'll set up the tent and you just rest until I'm done. After all, I was the one doing it before I met you."
[Eh, I guess you're right. Thanks, master.]
With that, Max helped Scarlet stand up and held her until she dropped her against a tree. Before setting up his tent, Max went to check what the others were doing, wanting to try out his new "ability". He found them talking together a bit further. As he was walking towards them, he was getting excited at the prospect of how easy it will be to communicate with them from now on. When in front of them, both Bonny and Dusk stopped talking and looked at him.
"Hi, girls. What are you talking about?"
{Oh, n-nothing in particular.} Dusk said with a blush.
"Oh shit!... It really worked!" Max exclaimed happily.
{What worked?} Bonny asked.
"Scarlet just transferred me the knowledge of the pokespeech of you, Dusk and your evolutions, making me able to understand you. Well, I still hear you in your pokespeech, but I oddly understand it anyway like if it was just another language I would have learned."
{That's great! So now you can understand me when I say that I like you.} Bonny joyfully replied.
"Y-yeah. Neat, isn't it?"
{Yes, it is.}
"What do you think, Dusk?"
{W-well, it s-sure is amazing.} She shyly responded.
"Indeed. Now I'll be able to make you even happier and fulfill your desires more efficiently."
{C-can't wait for that.}
"This is awesome," Max whispered to himself in joy while leaving them to go back to Scarlet.
{It sure is nice and all, b-but we'll have to be careful of what we say around him now.} Dusk commented when he was far enough.
{Why? We have nothing to hide from him.} Bonny replied.
{O-of course, but are you sure you would have wanted him to hear what we just talked about?}
{Good point. Well, we'll just have to wait when he's not around, then.}
{Okay. But if it's okay with you, I'd rather not talk about it again.}
{Whatever you say, Miss Prude.} Bonny quipped, which annoyed Dusk a bit.
Still walking to Scarlet, Max wasn't able to contain his joy and couldn't help but tell her.
"It works, Scarlet. You're amazing." Max exclaimed, trying his best not to yell.
[Of course, it does, I did it.] Scarlet retorted, feeling a bit better.
"That's gonna save us from so much trouble from now on. Anyway, I should go back to the tent if we want a place to sleep tonight." Max said before turning his back.
[Hey...] Scarlet stopped him.
"Yes?"
[Come here.] Scarlet commanded while motioning him to approach her again.
When he was in reach, Scarlet took his head and kissed him on the lips.
[I love you, master.]
"I love you too."
After Max returned the kiss, he walked back to his backpack to start unpacking and set the tent. Twenty minutes later, he was done and night was slowly falling.
"Alright, girls, the tent is ready. Come in whenever you want." Max called out.
[I think I'll get in now.] Scarlet informed, standing up a bit weakly.
Fortunately, she seemed to have regained a bit of strength but was still tired.
