章 48: But I did Call May

-Uncle Ben POV-
Where the hell is Peter "I'm sorry" V's voice pulls me back from my frown so I tell her "It's ok V, you thought he would get back right after" V sniffed as she said "I left him just a few blocks out, he could have walked straight to the hotel but he still isn't here" I laughed as I said "why are you crying about that idiot, he might look skinny but he can take care of himself?" I patted her on the head to alleviate her worries.
She seemed to nod at that so I smiled as I told her "Go and get some rest it's still 3:00pm" as she left for her room my face lost the smile as I focused on the phone I felt in my pocket, the same phone that I can use and find Peter as quickly as possible.
But.....but it comes with consequences, the consequences being them being on my ass about coming out of retirement. I do still have 6 more years before I can retire for good and not be bothered by nosy one-eyed pricks.
That guy's persistence is killing me, I mean he somehow comes up to me only when I am in trouble and that too with a solution right in his hands but it's the cost of the solution that stayed my hand every time, right now even this hotel has been his doing but that's the final favor he owes me. The next time comes with a price.
Should I pay the price or risk the chance of Peter being kidnapped and tortured by those damn people, 'there is no doubt that I will be paying the price fo....' may interrupted my thoughts "Are you going to take the call or let it ring?" I looked up at her and asked her "aren't you concerned?" She looked at me with raised eyebrows as she said, "Isn't he with the new girl he met?".
My world stills as I ask, "with who?" She looked at me as she said, "didn't I tell you, he called 2 hours back to tell me that he'll be back home at 5:00".
I start laughing like a madman with some cough and sweat profusely before I look at the mad woman who forgot to tell me the most important information that would have changed the course of my life for the next 10 years if she was a few minutes late with that information.
I look at the beautiful angel of my life looking at me cutely as she scratched her bed hair, I approached her and held her shoulders as I said "May remember what I said on the last date we had" she looked confused as she said, "something about how you'd push me onto the sofa and then ...." I interrupt her as I say, "no no, not that, the one at the beginning of the date" she thinks it over with a frown before she smiles as she boops my nose as she says, "You said Never change May after I scolded the waiter for asking for 40% tip from the next table."
I smiled and laughed along with her before I said "Yeah, yeah that one.." before I lose all cheer as I say "..yeah forget that will you" she pushes me back as she asks, "but why?" I held her in a headlock as I screamed into her ear "you sleeping in without telling me about Peter made V cry and made me consider making a life changing decision so never keep information from me again may" she yelled back "FINE FINE I GET IT".
I stopped the headlock and hugged her tightly as I said "I don't want to go back to my old life again May" she held my face as she said "I am sorry" I shook my head as I said "it wasn't your fault, you didn't know but the people who came last night weren't there for me, they were after Peter" May stilled at that as she asked in a muted tone "Why?" I looked into her eyes and found the rage frightening.
I calmed her down with a sigh "Calm down May, I am trying to find the people responsible for this, that's why we are wasting Peter's summertime here."
I look at the phone which stopped ringing right after May said Peter was safe, so they were listening in when V and I talked and thought it was the right time to tempt me with their offers again.
I will stand strong, and I will fight but only for my family and no one else, I kiss May to forget all the fears I had just a minute ago and push her into her room and onto the bed.
-PETER POV-
"WHYYY?" I ignore her whine as I pull her up and start removing the parachute from her so she asked, "Why are you taking it off?" I ignored her took the parachute and put it on myself "I think you will freeze from fear and not pull the cord" she looks offended as she says "I will not freeze" I look at her with a deadpan as I ask "Look to the left" she does "Look to the right" she does and I say "Yeah you'll definitely freeze" she looked confused as she asked herself "how does that even work?"
I put the parachute on and asked her "ok ready to hold on tight" but before I could jump, she yelled "wait wait wait wait wait" I stop as I yell "what?" She asked me "You were never going to let me wear the parachute were you" I look at her as she frowns "Yes" she starts hitting me as she yells "Why the hell did you make me carry all that extra weight up the entire way you asshole" I just laugh as I hold her from behind and jump off the platform.
As my jump hits a crescendo, she doesn't notice how far we jumped because she closed her eyes, so I just held her and yelled "Open your eyes" before we started plummeting down and she screamed for a while before I pulled the cord, and the parachute snapped us backwards in the air.
As I slowly guided the parachute to north I said "So how was it?" she just looked around as she said "it hurt a little when the chute snapped but after that it's great" I ignored about how it all sounded to my dirty mind and say, "We will land over there at the gas station and call a taxi to where we started" She just nodded as we observed the setting sun which was slowly being covered as the mountain became bigger with our descent.
We landed and we called the taxi at the gas station, and we reached the place where it all started, we stayed silent throughout the journey but once we got down and I paid the taxi I turned around to tell her "Hey look, we still have 18$ lef----uff" but u was interrupted by a hug from Shuri.
I returned it and asked, "any reason for this?" She just shook her head as she said, "Thank you for taking me around" I smile as I ask, "So how would I do as a tour guide" she laughs as she says, "You would make a bad first impression, but you'll make up for it in the end."
My eyes widen as I ask, "I made a bad first impression" she took out her phone and called someone as she said, "Well Street boy is not someone I would want to hang out with" I groan as I plead with her "Can we please forget that name?" She giggles as she declines "not until we find something better".
Someone must have picked up the call as she said "Yes I am exactly where we started---yes come right now" she cut the call before turning to me "Give me your number if you have a phone" I frown as I snatch her phone and put my number in "I am not actually broke, I'm telling you" she took back the phone all smug at my annoyance "You will be street boy forever".
We both laugh at that, and she says goodbye once her car arrives, I wave back and move to the hotel 'all in all, it was a good day I would say' I walk into the hotel and call V at the receptionist's desk, and she comes down to the desk and I spread my arms as I say, "What's up my lovely sister?" She doesn't respond and instead starts hitting me, so I yelp "what happened, what did I do?" She stops hitting as she says, "couldn't you have called and let me know where you were, do you know how worried I was?"
"But I did call May."
Authors Note:
I want to write an original. Below are the concepts I have in mind which one do you think would be the most interesting.
°A man is summoned into a fantasy world but is stuck inside his own Armour which can only be broken by the demon king, he makes a deal with the demon king and rules a single city ignoring everyone else's plight until another hero party is summoned who convinces him to kill the demon lord by breaking his Armor.
°A man who was considered a maniac, an idiot, all in all a dumb person for preparing himself for an apocalypse. Yes, he was preparing himself for a Zombie Apocalypse in the real world, the likelihood of which is millions to one. In our world, he would have died an idiot but in this world, he will get a chance to test himself to the limit because zombies are real, and they are coming for everyone.
°It was a Friday morning when I got the news that my brother died. He was walking on the wrong side of the road in the middle of the night when he got hit by someone, there were no eyewitnesses, there are no cameras around 5km from this area. The only evidence left behind is the back mirror of a bike and a single Air Pod. It doesn't matter how far away he may have gone; it doesn't matter whoever it is, it doesn't matter how much time it will take me to find him. I will have my vengeance. (Would be a very short story)
°I got a new job, I was about to marry the girl I loved, I was moving into My new Home, I was happy when the news came that I have Cancer, I didn't have the money for the treatment nor the optimism that I would survive, I wanted to die quietly in my own home but when that CD appeared before me. I thought I found salvation, I thought I found immortality, but I should have listened with a sound mind to the first words uttered by the man in the CD "Immortality is a sin, that you get punished for while you are alive."
(I already have the entire story which I wanted to make a short film of, but I had to stop myself because I didn't have the skill for it)
