章 2: Baldur Canek

The ride was very educational but also torture for Baldur. The queen kept speaking to him, slowly allowing him to learn the language but he still barely understood what she was saying even after the entire ride.

During the ride, one of the knights had called her on a small device, causing the woman to stop talking to the boy, much to his relief.

"Yes," the woman spoke with a different voice than how she spoke to Baldur. Her voice had weight behind and seemed very cold.

Baldur noticed this and tilted his head in confusion, wondering where the warm voice that had been talking to him had gone.

"I just wanted to inform you that Lord Bradley has brought some of his men to assist us," the knight that stayed behind with the bodies informed her

"That fast?" the queen asked in surprise. Her SOS signal went to the royal castle which would have had to send word to Lord Bradley. The entire process should have taken at least 30 minutes before the Lord could move towards that location.

"Yes, Your Majesty. He says that they saw the boy's ship come out of a portal and crash into the ground. They were coming to see what had arrived and were actually surprised to see me there."

"I see. Then stay with them and ensure that the bodies of those brave men and women are returned to the castle so we can give them proper burial rights."

"Understood. Your will shall be done."

The queen hummed in agreement before ending the call and looking over to see Baldur staring at her. She flashed him a sweet smile, causing him to turn his face away and look out the window once more.

The queen, prince, and Baldur all traveled in the carriage for another hour until they reached the gates of a large city. The golden walls that surrounded the city did not look gaudy as one might expect but looked completely regal. It was as if the city was a sacred location.

It was the mighty and large black gates as well as the large cannons atop the walls showed that it was no mere holy place. This was a city but it was also a fortress, ready to repel anyone foolish enough to invade.

As they neared the gates, several men and women riding on speeder bikes. When they saw the carriage covered in blood, they all pulled up around it and pulled their guns on it.

The 3 knights sitting atop of the carriage put their hands in the air to show that they were no threat while the queen looked out of the window and smiled.

She pressed a button that rolled down the window before greeting the knights that had come to see them.

"Hello, my knights. We had faced an issue but a savior from the stars has assisted us," the queen gave them a basic explanation, not wanting to go into any longer. "You can tell my husband that I am safe now."

The knights looked around in confusion, not sure what she was talking about. One of the knights got off the bike and bowed before speaking with the queen.

"Your Majesty, we received no word of you being in danger. Are you sure that you pressed the distress signal?"

The queen frowned for a moment when she heard that but her face returned to normal before anyone could notice.

"Did I? My mistake then. We truly would have been in danger if our little savior didn't help us," she laughed it off while thinking about how dangerous of a situation her rival had put her in. She even began to think that the situation may have been created by the woman in the first place.

The knight nodded before hoping back on her bike and escorting the queen, prince, and Baldur through the city until they reached the gates of the castle at the very center.

Once they were there, the knights turned around, knowing they were not allowed entry unless under certain circumstances.

The carriage made its way into the castle, under the watchful gaze of many knights. But Baldur noticed that one of the knights looked at them with a different gaze from everyone else and made note of the man.

By the time they arrived at the front door of the castle, the trio had easily passed over 200 knights who were on guard duty. The queen and Baldor saw three individuals waiting for them besides the knights guarding the front door.

One was a man who appeared to be in his lates-30s but that may have been the beard that made him seem more mature. He was wearing fine clothes like the queen and had a similar crown upon his head as well.

Standing on his left was a woman wearing a robe that clung to her body and could barely be called decent, her only excuse being the time of night that they had arrived. Next to her was a child with blonde hair like the man with the crown.

The queen smiled at the group while she descended from the carriage, helping her son and Baldur down. As she placed Baldur on the ground, she bent over and whispered into his ear.

"Stay by my side and be careful around that woman. She is dangerous," the whispered before turning around and walking toward her family

Thanks to all the talking she had done, Baldur was able to understand what she meant even if he didn't fully understand what she said.

He followed close behind the queen and prince who were both embraced by the man in the crown.

"Goodness, you two. The knights informed me that you were both in some type of danger! Why didn't you press the distress signal?" the king asked with a face full of worry

The prince was about to answer him when his mother beat him to it.

"Apologies, my love. I underestimated those bandits due to their initial numbers. By the time the reinforcements came, my mind had completely blanked," the queen apologized with her head slightly lowered

"You really must be more careful, Your Majesty," the woman at the side told her with a small smile. "We would not be able to move on with our lives if you or the crown prince came to harm."

"No need to worry. My savior from the stars, Baldur, had saved us," the queen pulled Baldur's arm and placed him in front of her with her hands on his shoulders. "According to Lord Bradley, a portal opened in the sky and his pod fell through it, right onto our attackers. He then defeated at least 60 bandits with only an arrow," she exaggerated his deeds, wanting to warn the woman next to her husband that her savior was powerful and dangerous

Everyone looked at Baldur in shock. None had expected for a single child to accomplish something that even the captain of the royal knights could barely accomplish.

"Then we must thank him!" the king yelled in joy, glad that his family had been saved

"Hmm. I was thinking about adopting him. We have no daughters that he can be engaged to so this is the next best thing. What do you say?" the queen asked while fluttering her eyes

"Of course. We can easily feed another child," The king didn't think about it before responding. "Boy, from now on, your name will be Baldur Canek. It goes well with your name boy since it means 'sky star' and you are our little star from the sky."

Baldur looked between the king and queen before turning back to the king.

"Thank you," he told him in a small voice, surprising the queen and crown prince. "No speak well. Sorry."

"No need to worry about that, son," the king waved his hand dismissively while naturally calling Baldur his son. "Come inside and rest. You have worked hard tonight to protect your family."

Baldur didn't fully understand what he was saying so he looked at the queen for guidance. The woman laughed once again before holding out her hand for Baldur.

The young boy took it and was led into the castle where he would sleep for the first time in a new home and in his life.
