CHAPTER 28

The atmosphere in the room became tense as Elmi and Draco reentered. An awkward silence lingered, suggesting that Snape had taken the liberty to remind Lucius Malfoy of the boundaries when dealing with internal Slytherin affairs. Elmi, recognizing the unspoken dynamics, understood that Slytherin matters were traditionally handled within the confines of the house. Lucius, as a former Slytherin, should have respected these internal protocols.

The unspoken tension between Snape and Lucius added an extra layer of complexity to the already charged atmosphere. It was a reminder that even within the same house, with shared values and ambitions, internal politics could be as intricate and nuanced as the wider wizarding world. Lucius started talking with a sour face,

"Severus... Professor Snape, as the school governor, I would like this little brute to learn his place. He must learn not to rebel against his betters."

At that moment, Elmi couldn't hold himself and chuckled. Seeing this Lucius got angrier,

"What is funny, boy?"

"You, sir. You are funny. What age are you living in? 'My betters' oh god, I can't believe I am hearing this, and do you know what is more funny?"

He pointed towards Draco and said,

"He is my better, a boy that can barely cast some small time spells even though he is a pure-blood that received homeschooling. Just because I call you 'sir' doesn't mean I am afraid of you."

Snape cut him off,

"Fawley, watch your language."

Elmi did not want to be cross with Snape, so he answered respectfully,

"Yes, sir, but Mr. Malfoy here should remember who he is talking to. I am not an orphan boy or a Weasly; I am from the noble house of Fawley. As Malfoys, he might have more pull in the wizarding world, but I do not bow down to pressure, and neither does my family."

Lucius cleared his throat and fixed his clothes like he hadn't heard what Elmi had said. He turned towards Snape and said,

"What is his punishment going to be for abusing other boys and using magic against them? If I recall right, he even tortured them."

Snape looked at him with cold eyes and said,

"Lucius, I think you are forgetting who you are talking to again; if you might have sources among the students, but as the head teacher, I have better ones. Firstly, it was not an ambush; your boy asked for it, and he reaped what he sowed. As for the torture, Fawley cast that magic right now."

Now that he thought about it in retrospect, using the cursed blade curse on them was a bit much. He was basically using a really weak version of Cruciatus Curse. The spell caused pain a bit harder than a static shock now, but they might have thought it was too much, so he did something he worked on before he disturbed the natural flow of the spell by being too slow.

"Ma...le...dic...cio Bla...dae!"

Thanks to Elmi's special eyes, since he can see the flow of mana and winds of magic, he finds out that by spelling out his unique spells, he can disturb the flow and make the spell weaker.

His wand glowed with an eerie white light, but it was not as bright as always; it was dim and a bit grey than its usual ghostly white color. Snape reached out and touched the wand, and he was a bit shocked by the effect. He realized something was different about the pain the spell caused, but because it was so minor, he couldn't put his finger on it.

With a disappointed look, he looked at Draco like he was saying pathetic to him and, without saying anything to him, turned to Lucius,

"Touch it and see if you could call this torture as someone who was experienced with it. Of course, as a Ministry personal."

Elmi got in and said,

"Draco needs to get punished too if you want me to get punished as well. As the one instigating this, Draco pulled his wand first, and he was the one ambushing me."

Lucius was furious,

"I have had enough of you. It looks like I have to show you what it means to mess with a Malfoy."

"Mr. Malfoy, as I said before, I am not someone you can bully into submission. You might be able to put pressure on the school to punish me, but I have a family, too. And you definitely can't kick me out of here; that is why I can make this promise to you. If you come after me, someone can make your precious son's school experience a nightmare. All they have to do is make our little Draco fall down the stairs once in a while and bully him."

He looked at Lucius's eyes dead serious and without blinking,

"But they will not make it obvious, so you can never prove who it was. Those kinds of people are not 'simple' like someone."

He turned and looked at Draco and then returned his gaze back to Lucius.

"I think every time Draco bullies someone, they might bully him back, show him how it feels to live in despair. When they mess with someone, they don't play childish tricks on them. Before the first semester ends, you might come and beg those people to stop doing what they are doing."

Lucius was shocked; this could not be an eleven-year-old child; there was too much malice in his eyes. He believed every word of it, and for a second, someone else came into his mind. Cold water flowed through his spine; this boy reminded him of someone. No, a nightmare would be a more accurate word.

But his ego couldn't allow being overwhelmed by a child, so he shot back, insulting Elmi's family and saying he would make sure Elmi was kicked out of school if he did anything to his son. After this, Snape got involved and ended the discussion, deciding he was not going to punish both of them for this time.

....

After the discussions, Snape sends Draco and Lucius out,

"Fawley, you wait here."

After they left, he turned his cold, small eyes to Elmi and said,

"Where did you learn this spell?"

"From a family grimoire, mother said most of those spells have lost their importance because better ones were invented. But I like learning new spells."

Snape still looked suspicious of what Elmi said but didn't say anything for a while and started waving his wand.

"Show me the spell again."

Elmi was careful to do the same wand movement as before and cast the spell slowly, but Snape sighed and said,

"Fawley, they are gone. You don't have to act slow; someone this slow cannot beat five people even if they were 1st-years. Don't act like I am a gullible child."

Elmi hesitated a bit but still stuck to his story and said,

"I really can't cast this faster, sir. I didn't beat them with this; I used a defensive charm."

Snape was intrigued and said,

"Yes, the black shield spell; show that one too."

"My mother said it is an old shield spell equal to the Contego spell, and because it is harder than that one, it was forgotten in time."

"I didn't ask for a history lesson; I know why spells are forgotten in time. Stop stalling and cast it."

"Please step back sir."

He brought his wand in front of himself and said,

"Don't worry and cast it."

"Noxus Guardium."

The spell conjured shadows that enveloped his body, forming a protective barrier that could deflect minor magical and physical harm.

Simultaneously, the shadows provided a cloak of concealment, making him blend into his surroundings in the dimly lit room, rendering him difficult to see. Snape flicked his wand, and its tip shined with white light. Then sparks flew out as the shadowy shield tried to push him back, and he resisted.

He was shocked a bit because the spell managed to push him two steps back, and he wasn't able to block it entirely. As Snape managed to block it, the shadowy bubble around Elmi popped like a balloon.

Snape looked pensive, and then he tried to cast this spell too, but he was not successful; he asked Elmi to show the cursed blade curse again, and this time, Snape managed to cast it, but it looked so feeble and weak. It was so different from his spell.

Snape only managed to coat the tip of his wand with the curse, and it shined with a dirty gray color. But he was able to do something his mother couldn't; after he came clean about his spells, his mother had tried to cast them so many times, and she wasn't able to.

Elmi always thought his spells and wand spells should be interchangeable, and today, Snape proved it was possible. Elmi thought Haf-blood Prince really was one of the most talented wizards of their time.
