章 9: Nightmare spell..1
After the fight was over, I was spent and just laid down in the arena, sleeping after more than a year. I don't know how long I slept in the boss room, but I felt it must have been quite a while. I wasn't tired, but maybe I just couldn't feel it here.
After waking up, I had to deal with my reality of where I was in the nightmare spell. In the end, I was really powerful, more than any sleeper ever could be. But that didn't mean I wouldn't die if I wasn't careful. If I remembered correctly, this nightmare was supposed to be like a wave of monsters. I don't know what I have to do, but I know I have to fight those horrible creatures.
But first, I should get my prize that I worked so hard to get in exchange for the soul of Abyss Watcher. It was the Farron Greatsword, which comes with a parrying dagger—a great combo and something I can rely on for some time.
As I go to exchange my boss soul for the weapon, I notice an another boon—I also get a set of armor. I see its stats, and I am a little happy. It's a mid-weight armor, very nice, and it also has resistance against the corruption of the abyss—great. For the weapon, it's the Farron Greatsword, and I claim it all with my boss soul.
Finally, this sword was huge, even bigger than my whole body, and the stats were also insane. Its basic attack power is 741; that's a huge jump in power. As soon as I got it in my hands, I can now feel how I can use it, just like before, but now it was a little fun.
This sword comes with a curved dagger—it's not meant to attack with, but rather to use it in the other hand to parry other weapons away. Its main purpose is to hook it into the ground, and the handle will move, so you can perform a 360° cut with the sword. There are honestly too many ways this can be used, and it's probably not made of any normal steel, as it feels like it can cut through almost anything.
After the sword, I look at my inventory, equip my armor, and it's was little heavy, but I can already feel way more protected than with my other armor. It's amazing, but the hat is a little goofy, but I like it, and my face is covered too. It also has a sword holder on the back—a perfect set piece. After checking out my armor like a little kid for a bit, I once again sat down.
Now I have to plan how should I complete this nightmare. From what I know, a wave of monsters will come from the mountain sides. The goal is also mysterious—who knows what the real purpose of this test is. Will it be to protect the village or save just some people to change fate? I have no idea, but first, I have to deal with the biggest hurdle—how should I talk to someone? It's been almost 15 years since I talked to someone other than my parents, and even that was just a few words here and there. It's not that I was afraid; I just did not know how I should talk to someone or what should I say. I remembered that I have not talked to someone for so long; my voice became weak, and it hurt me to even talk. Now I have to, for this village to survive.
So, I was out of the Dark Souls system finally after more than a year, and I finally looked at the hut's door. I was looking at it with dull eyes; honestly, I did not know how I would talk to the village people and who I should talk to. But I know sitting around will get me nowhere, so I finally took a deep sigh and went out in normal clothes.
For now, my plan was to observe the people and not do anything. I first had to know what these people were like and what their culture was like. I was strong now, but I wanted to know if there was anyone strong in this village. So I went outside, and it was like I was really in an ancient village. People were carrying wood, kids were dirty and naked, full of mud, running around, and old people were sitting around talking on beds made entirely of wood. Women were also working, with some carrying pots of water from somewhere. Overall, I found it peaceful.
So I went around not standing out. I found an open field that looked like a training ground for the youth, and it was just that. Teens looking aged 14 to 18 were running, and some were practicing weapons like wooden spears to swords. I looked at them for a bit and moved on as there was nothing to notice this where normal people no use against nightmares.
And just like that, I went around all of the village, keeping my head down, observing and listening in to people's conversations. I learned a tidbit about this place. From what I gathered, the sea was rising, winter was near, and there was some news about some pregnant woman? Well, that woman happened to be the chief's wife. I was interested to find out more, but that's all I could gather. From the looks of it, I was an orphaned kid who was already an adult here; people aged past fifteen were considered adults. The wife of the chief was only 16; it was a hard time. These kids were not a choice but a necessity, as they couldn't afford not to have kids.
But from the talks, it was not normal to have kids this early. Even they knew how dangerous it was to have kids, and people were not well-fed. Life was hard for people here; they worked every day just to have enough food. They also had to live in constant danger of wild beasts and even monsters. From what I gathered, it was pathetic. There was little to no battle power to fight against what was coming, and I recognized that. So I slowly vanished into the night.
After roaming around, I came to a bitter truth. There was no shot these people could survive on their own. They needed a savior, and I would try my very best. I had an army of normal humans that I had killed more than the entire population of the entire village—50,000 and some giants, animals, and even some weak glint stone mages. They knew only some weak spells, but it was better than nothing.
So, at high speed, I went toward the mountains, and I felt dread as I was now in the dead of night inside a forest. I could feel it—the peace before the storm. I had to prepare as much as I could.
