章 4: Chapter 4: Level 4

Aiden was beginning to feel the weight of his dungeon responsibilities. Despite his limited experience, the system had been nudging him toward unlocking abilities he didn't even know he had. As he sat in his control room, now decorated with banners and lit by glowing orbs, Aiden realized there was so much left for him to learn.

"Naming monsters?" Aiden muttered. "I can do that?"

Curious, he summoned the goblins that had been wandering through the first level of the dungeon. Their green eyes gleamed with confusion as they stared at him, awaiting orders. "If naming you gets me more points... I might as well give it a try."

He walked over to the first goblin. It was larger than the others, with slightly sharper features. "I'll call you… Grum."

Suddenly, the system chimed.

Aiden grinned. "So that's how it works." He continued naming the goblins one by one, earning more DP each time. As he finished, he saw a new alert.

"Finally," Aiden sighed. He eagerly used some of the DP he earned from naming his monsters to summon a golem. The earth rumbled slightly, and a massive stone figure emerged in the center of the dungeon, towering over the goblins.

"Perfect," Aiden said, inspecting the golem. "But it looks a bit... mindless."

The system chimed again.

"That's going to take a while," Aiden muttered, glancing at his limited DP. "Guess I'll just have to work with what I've got for now."

With a sigh, Aiden opened the book he'd received at the very beginning of his journey. He still hadn't figured out all its secrets, but now seemed as good a time as any to start using it. As he began writing about the things he'd learned – naming monsters, summoning golems, and decorating the dungeon – he noticed something strange. Every time he wrote, he felt stronger.

Aiden's eyes widened. "So that's how I level up!"

He continued writing feverishly, documenting every detail of his journey. By the time he was done, his level had risen enough to unlock a few more features of the system.

"Alright, time to make this dungeon unstoppable." Aiden stood up, ready to implement his newfound knowledge. His monsters were stronger, his dungeon was more secure, and he was finally beginning to understand the depths of his abilities.

But something told him that the system was still hiding much more from him...

After naming his monsters and leveling up through his newfound knowledge, Aiden's curiosity began to grow. There was so much more he didn't know about the system and his dungeon. As he walked through the control room, he stopped and stared at the glowing core in the center of the room.

"What happens when I finish the first floor?" he wondered aloud. He hadn't considered that before. Every dungeon had layers, floors filled with creatures and traps, but he had only begun to scratch the surface with his.

The system, as if listening to his thoughts, chimed in.

Aiden blinked, processing the information. "So, the dungeon grows... and I get stronger as it does."

This revelation excited him. If he could finish the first floor, it would unlock new potential. He could summon more powerful monsters, lay down deadlier traps, and create more intricate designs. The idea of building something larger than anyone had ever seen made him smile.

"But how do I 'complete' the first floor?" Aiden asked, hoping for more clarification.

The system responded again.

—————————————

. System window.

.

. Requirements to finish the

. first floor:

. 1. All current rooms must

. be decorated or filled.

. 2. Monsters must be fully

. prepared for intruders.

. 3. First boss must be

. summoned.

—————————————

"First boss?" Aiden muttered. "I haven't even thought about that."

He began pacing back and forth, thinking through the details. His dungeon had grown a lot since he started, but it was nowhere near ready to face intruders. And the idea of summoning a boss monster—something powerful enough to act as the final challenge on the first floor—was daunting.

"What kind of boss could I summon with my current DP?" Aiden opened the system window to check his options, scrolling through the list of creatures available to him.

——————————————

. System window.

.

. Available bosses:

. 1. Stone Golem (Advanced).

. 2. Hobgoblin Chief.

. 3. Shadow Beast.

——————————————

"Hmm…" Aiden rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "I'll need to be careful about which one I choose. The boss is going to represent the strength of this dungeon. I can't just throw in any random monster."

His mind kept circling back to the other requirements. He had to finish decorating the dungeon, ensure that his monsters were well-equipped and intelligent enough to handle intruders, and then, of course, summon the boss.

As he turned back toward the core, Aiden made a decision. "Alright, let's get started. First, I'll finish the floor's decorations and boost my monsters' intelligence. Then, I'll worry about the boss."

He began by summoning more slimes, these ones designed to clean and maintain the dungeon, keeping the halls spotless and ensuring that any remnants of battle were cleared quickly. After that, he spent a good portion of his remaining DP to enhance the intelligence of his goblins and golem, making them more responsive and adaptable in combat situations.

"Okay, that should take care of the first few tasks. Now... I need to think about the boss," Aiden muttered.

The system chimed in once more, almost as if anticipating his next step.

"Control a boss?" Aiden was surprised. "So I can fight as the monsters too? This just keeps getting better."

A grin spread across his face. He was starting to understand the depth of his abilities. Not only could he summon monsters, decorate his dungeon, and name his creatures for extra points, but he could also step into their shoes—no, their bodies—and fight in their place.

Now more determined than ever, Aiden returned to his control room and began preparations. The first floor would soon be complete, and when it was, he'd be ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead.

"And when the first party arrives," Aiden said with a smirk, "I'll be there to meet them myself."

As Aiden sat quietly in the control room, waiting for the next group of adventurers to stumble into his dungeon, a familiar group of four figures entered the dungeon's threshold. Aiden's heart skipped a beat as he recognized them—his old classmates, the very ones who had always belittled and looked down on him. Memories of their mockery came flooding back, stirring a deep well of anger within him.

Aiden's mind raced. The system didn't help—it made it clear that this moment would test him in more ways than one. Could he control the rage bubbling inside, or would he give in to the anger? A choice was looming. Controlling one of his goblins, Aiden watched as the group ventured deeper into the dungeon, unaware that he was observing their every move.

Suddenly, a new message appeared.

The temptation to strike them down was almost unbearable. With a simple command, he could control the goblins and take them out one by one. The group had no idea they were walking into a dungeon run by someone they once tormented. But the system's challenge was clear. If Aiden could overcome his emotions and choose to spare them, there would be no reward. If he allowed his rage to consume him and killed them, a special reward awaited him at level 5.

Aiden clenched his fists. His mind raced with conflicting thoughts. Did he really want to kill them? Was revenge worth it? Or was it just the easy path?

WARNING!

First death imminent

———————————

It was too late. He let the anger slip through his fingers. The goblins lunged, overwhelming the group. His former classmates screamed in terror, but their cries were silenced one by one. Aiden watched as the goblins finished the job.

When the battle was over, a strange calm came over him. The system's voice returned, cold and final.

But the aftermath left Aiden feeling empty. A part of him wondered what might have happened if he'd made a different choice. His mind drifted back to the dungeon. The slimes had already begun cleaning the blood and remains from the floor. It was then that one of the slimes brought him a book, an old, worn tome about dungeons—left behind by one of his former classmates.

Curious, Aiden opened the book. As he skimmed through the pages, he realized it contained valuable information about adventurer psychology—what adventurers expected when entering dungeons, the traps they anticipated, and how they behaved in certain situations. A smirk crossed his face.

With this knowledge, Aiden set to work. Using his DP, he made fake treasure chests and false traps that were easily avoidable. But in doing so, he ensured that adventurers would step right into the real traps. The more elaborate his traps became, the more DP he earned. His dungeon grew in strength, his monsters leveled up, and soon, he would be ready for the next challenge.
