But the people will likely see him as the better candidate since he just defended them and he has some what of a religion going on. So unless Ciri gets married to someone else he will always have a better claim culturally. But what comes with that is a civil war since Ciri is the heir it's just that she's a woman and people would follow her if she pushes for it. That's not gonna happen anyways tho because they like each other too much and we know they get together already it's just a matter of time.

I think that's one of the many reasons he wasn't the real chosen one. Because he focused on the future that benefited him the most without sacrificing much. Which just made things worse for the long and short of things since he couldn't control everyone in his empire. Which led to rebellion and other's growing in power behind his back. Then he kinda just threw all of the heavy lifting on his kids and dipped out of the empire.

That's one major flaw of Paul he is super selfish. He does all of that because he wants to stay in control.
