A great novel! Very entertaining with wonderful characters and an awesome MC! Aside from the MC, the other characters have so much personality - they're not there to boost the MC, but to move the story along. The use of IRL famous people is tastefully done as well, so far, and not overly crazy. I don't know anything about American football, but the author manages to present the dry information and knowledge about football in a pleasant reading level, whether true or not, although it does seem like the author has done some thorough research.
I'm genuinely torn with this novel. On one hand, it's a great read with an engaging story, good fleshed-out characters with complex and humane emotions living their lives in an extreme world (think Black Lagoon and Jormungand). On the other hand, I also feel it's a tiresome read, mainly because I, as a reader, never get to catch a break through the MC and the rest of the characters. In other words, it's a heavy load to read if that makes sense. A lot is happening right from the get-go, and a lot of darkness. It's not a bad thing per se, because the novel is that good, but I need something in the novel to offset the heaviness for me to continue reading. That much darkness and heaviness is unfortunately not for me.
Though the novel is very good, it's also a prime example of skewed scoring that doesn't reflect the actual quality, or lack thereof, to be exact. Yes, that's right - it's the classic 'MTL, copy and paste' that has been making its presence heavily known on Webnovel for the past few years. Currently, the novel is ranking #4 in power translation, but the truth is that the translation is subpar at best. Like many other translated novels on the website that skate around quality vs. payment, the novel is MTL'd and without any proofreading whatsoever. For example, there's the classic and very annoying he/she, then there's the constant mix-up of character names, not to mention weird words and phrasing that don't make sense in English, etc. At least for me, that leaves a bitter taste in my mouth, even if the story itself is good, but it's not a pleasant reading experience.
I can't remember since I last found and read a great sports novel. The writing quality and storyline are fluid, pleasant to read and with a steady pace. This novel makes me a very happy reader. The MC is first and foremost an adult in a teenager's body, and despite living and aiming for his childhood- teenage dream once again, and perhaps finding love (even if he's mentally older than his peers and perhaps love-interest), the author never loses sight of the MC's beginning as an adult. As a reader, I'm grateful the MC isn't one of those who reverts to being an insufferable man-child with a sudden lack of IQ and maturity. That being said, there's character growth because of the MC's reflective personality. He knows he was an adult before, but that doesn't stop him from living his second life as a teenager, fighting for his dreams and goals, having insecurities like any other human being and working on them - and most of all growing as a person. Keep up the great work, author!
Wanting the stars - that's just too cute for me to handle.🤗 #moemoekyun
What a terrible slow burn. As of ch. 92 the MC is still weak and has almost no control over her life. The system manipulates her at every turn to use points and fall into debt, speaks half-truths and withold informations and details and works her to the ground like a slave to make her stronger, but also to make her earn money for the system. It's like a boss and a salary slave. Eg.: System: Assignment X, Reward: 100.000 points MC: Assigment accepted (like the MC has a choice, not!) System: Oops, forgot to mention 'Assignment X' needs tools to complete. Cost: 1.000.000 points MC: "#€""€%€#!! After assignment completed: System: Alert alert! Host is in debt. Penalty given. MC: What?!?!! System: Oops, forgot to mention. MC: #€%!!! While the novel is good, it's also tiring to follow a gopher MC that never gets a break to develop some character growth because she's constantly fighting to survive the ridiculous assigments that the system dishes out and the situations she lands in as a result. While I understand that the system is crucial to the MC's development and overall storyline, I fear the novel with be filled with a lot of forced humor and filler-like assignments.
I don't mind a novel with an underlying patriotic theme, but I don't want it constantly thrown in my face, which is what this novel does. Everything that the MC does and everything that the story is about is about how great China is, how wonderful the Motherland is and how sacrificing and incomparable the Chinese soldiers are. If the author could lower his volume of nationalism and patriotism just a smidge (like a huge amount of smidge), the novel would be so much better.
So far, so good. A very typical rebirth/transmigrating story about an MC with a space and a kinship burden to bear and keep alive, but still very entertaining. I love a badass female with a strong backbone and 'take no prisoners'-attitude. The siblings are cute and delightful as well. The translation on the other hand leaves much to be desired. The grammatical gender is consistently wrong and messes with my reading rhythm. Better proofreading should be a demand.
It's an excellent novel with an interesting storyline and well-written characters, but I have to say that the translation is rather subpar and even gets progressively worse in the latter half of the novel with a lack of proofreading which doesn't do the author's work justice.
This is my kind of novel! A little historical, a lot of fun, a little transmigration (though the MC doesn't remember), a lot of familiar love, a lot of slow kingdom-building (but with good pace), no unnecessary in-your-face-slapping drama (thank you!), a happy childhood, a lot of laughs (love love love the father-son dynamic like pulling the lip)... Just pure and delicious goodness, this novel!
