You’ve clearly never been to the Americas, ask any Canadian or Mexican if they are American and they will laugh in your face. American means they are from the USA, it’s a country standpoint when referring to where one is from, not a continental standpoint. For instance wouldn’t just say I am Asian, I would say I am Japanese. Just like Chinese people wouldn’t say they are Asian, they would say Chinese. There is no other country in the world that has America in the name, thus they are Americans. That is why the original commenter asked for the comparison to the American school system, it is blatantly obvious he meant United States school system. The fact you refuse to accept the simple logic at play here is crazy to me. To answer your question about if I know what 95% of the world is, yes I do. It’s a simple math question, you should know this too. I also travel a lot and have been to 35 countries so far and will be adding more every year.

Also, only a few countries from South America think that North and South America are the same continent, I am guessing you are from one of them? They are two different continents. Asia and Europe are connected by land, are they just one big continent? No. Same situation as North and South America, collectively the two continents are called The Americas. It’s arrogant to think that Americans are not called Americans when 95% of the world calls them that, including themselves.

North and South America are two different continents. People all around the world call people from the United States, Americans. They are not called United States citizens just like Canadians are not called Canada citizens. They are Americans, thus American school system means United States school system, it’s very simple logic. Just because your language calls Americans United States citizens, does not negate the fact that they are known as Americans throughout the world.
