To blame war on men alone is a fallacy, war was done for the betterment of a civilisation as a whole. The wars of today are just shows of the capability of military technology, especially after the advent of world trade, and easier access to rarer resources. Also, initially democratic rights were given to the aristocats, then the landed, then the rich, then the working poor and initially only for those who have participated in wars being a man did not mean that you could vote. Well it is true, but at the same time women have contributed to health and medicine. The advances of science and tech is a contribution of both genders.

I'm not sure thug was even part of the english language at the time. Thug is actually from Thuggee which was a gang in India who used to rob people on the highway by strangling them. The English got the word when the East India Company exterminated them. Apparently the last leader of the thuggees killed over 8,000 people or something. I think a better word would be Highway Man, in the context that I highly doubt the English knew much about Thuggees at this time.
