It never explicitly said that he was THE Death of our universe or even our Earth. In fact he said he was _a_ death spirit soul which sounds more like a lowly reaper💀 among many other. That would also dovetails better with his relative weakness to Rean's soul, soul treasure or not, and his lack of knowledge and control over the reincarnation mechanisms.

That can't be helped. This plane is a place where Cultivation Reigns Supreme! Everyone in this place can cultivate. Even if you don't cultivate at all, just the natural accumulation of Spiritual Energy will strengthen your Soul to an entirely different level. It is completely different from the plane from where Death and Rean came from.

The mask turned into a worm (it's tool transformation like Genius) not the man. And the man has a "charm" that looks like a crow on his face, in other words a tattoo on his visage.

This middle-aged man had a very strange charm on his face after he removed the mask that seemed to have formed a rather eerie-looking crow.

There was also the butterfly. Since they don't know that the bee is contracted to Red Thorn and they're not sure if Red Thorn is source type (besides they can't know that its contract method is not dependent on spiritual energy), their conclusion is reasonable. Not to mention that usually even if there's no limitation due to spiritual energy, each additional Fey is a drain on one's resources, Lin Yuan is exceptional because he doesn't need much resources to evolve his Fey and besides his Master provides unlimited ingredients (even if he's unwilling to be a leech).
