No. but it's not mentioned often. The time I do recall it being mentioned was when Vastor, whilst battling his abomination half, his eyes didn't reach the purple after turning 20 or 21, they realised he wasn't at the genius level like Manahor, and he suffered a loss in status.

The entire room gasped in amazement as they realized what Meron had known all along. Even though people had no concept of cores, after centuries of magical studies, the fact that the glow in someone's eyes matched their raw strength was well known.

for anyone to learn? I how is not going to be demanded of kit for everyone who reads his ideas about void magic, must be able to learn it. After all, only 7 non-guardian characters have learned how to switch between light and dark, and that was a key part of Silverwing's legacy. (scarlett, manohar, lith, solus, baba yaga, Silverwing herself, and Slypha - excluding guardians)

This was a great chapter. It truly was. But this part to me is a plot hole. By killing Phloria, she could be revived as a demon and once again join the fray. The only way it quite makes sense is if the Golden Griffon academy can choose not to revive people. If that were the case then this story line of intending to kill Phloria makes more sense. Further, she can be revived immediately as a demon and fight against the ambush. the whole Lith is weakened by Grief does work, but I don't know. it also felt a little forced to me.

I see it differently, remember back to all the things discussed about world tribulations and becoming a guardian. mogar now wants a destroyer. but destroy what? eternal forbidden magic, all his WT's were connected with him wanting to destroy eternal monstrosities. the only exception was saving protector- because that one he needed to rebel against his inherent personality, (like Legain not hoarding knowledge but sharing it). his anger is directed towards night and meln, who are an eternal Monstosity that have used the gift of power mogar have them to be eternally evil. mogar is calling lith to see if he will reasons to the mantle of lord of destruction.
