Exallion: well, with Mark's personality, it was obvious that he have more female than male acquaintances. If you didn't notice, Mark don't really curse or swear and rather hate it and it is really common among males to treat cursing in the Philippines as nothing. Because of that, he'd rather stay away from males and avoid something he hate. Females on the other hand was way better in this. Although there are still those who curse the same way, there are more who are concious about this. Furthermore, Mark don't look at females like a hungry beast unlike many males single males in his age in college making it easier for females to approach him without worrying that he would misunderstand. Also his behavior of not talking too much or staying away from other are viewed as something negative by most males while giving a mysterious vibe to some females who are very curious.
Actually, I took this circumstance from my own experience. Yep, I knew more women than men because I hate unruly cursing people and most men are like that around me.
Also about Alana, if you notice, Mark really don't know and only recognized her when she wore a disguise indicating that there more to this.
