Because usually people who commit crimes won’t be sorry, and cause more damage than this. Granted he did just break his nose, so something more than ‘sorry’ might be justified, but not retribution. Avoiding retribution or ‘revenge’ is one of the reasons we have police and judicial systems, because escalating the confrontation doesn’t end it, it just leaves a lot of people dead.

Two problems: 1. These people spend centuries in closed-door cultivation just to get to the next stage. Taking it easy would result in millennia passing by with little improvement. 2. No doubt resources will be needed to improve one’s self, resources that require huge effort and luck to obtain, they are almost certainly not going to fall out of the sky. 3. There has already been some indication that a cultivator if they don’t improve can find themselves dying by old age as their lifespan is used up faster than they increase it by improving their cultivation. If you want to see something like this, there is a novel called the Lazy King, which is set in a world where if your sin is Sloth then you can improve yourself by sleeping. The MC ended up sleeping for eternity in a secluded place while a puppet he made once out of boredom ends up making him one of the most powerful Demon Lords.

God, at the very thought of this sluggard, he felt even more suffocated!

Yea, when they say atomic bomb, that could mean a bomb anywhere from kilotons of TNT equivalent nuclear bombs, or megatons of TNT equivalent thermonuclear/hydrogen bomb as I doubt these cultivators would know or care about the difference. I kinda wonder where he was cultivating when he got nuked.

Song Shuhang felt that this Senior Xian Gong was definitely someone awesome. To be able to survive the humanity’s ultimate weapon at the present stage—a direct attack of an atomic bomb. He could only offer his bow in silence.

He’s probably making the assumption that it’s similar to most cultivating novels in which each stage is generally exponentially more difficult than the last. As in if there are 3 stages you might expect only 1 in a thousand cultivators to reach that stage and if there are 6 stages only 1 in a million. Which tends to never be actually applied in novels because the MC and his close cohorts will generally grow in power linearly instead of logarithmically as everyone not provided with cheat skills supposedly do. So the question then if you were in such a situation: Do I feel protagonisty enough to bet that I will be better than the millions that came before me and grow in power like a protagonist rather than a normal person?

However, Third Stage Acquired Combat King Realm was not easy to reach.
