the beggar king seems to be acting kind in order to get the grace of the will of the world or island he is in right now, just like for daneel in WDS except deneel was truly being kind.

and with character like that he beat up sram just because it was eating dead bodies of never ending clan while he has no problem literally doing that himself wether it was using flame snatch (he is literally consuming other people) or being callous and playing with others lives because it is profitable. it is not just shameless but hypocritical bull****. if you wanna compare it, it's like a terrorist doing terrible things just because he doesn't see other being as his equals and because doing those things will get him into a f**king heaven. this just made the mc from being endearing to an evil di*k. still like the story though.

there is a big difference between cruelty because you have no choice and cruelty for profit. it is like the difference between a thief who steal for survival and fat pig rich people who scam poor people just because they wanna get fatter.
