For once I am actually astounded by an original novel on qidian (webnovel). This is a suprisingly well made novel, to the point where I could draw comparisons to other novels like “The Novel’s Extra” and “Omniscient Readers Viewpoints”. “The Author’s POV” is probably the only original on webnovel that I stay up to date on, love it. Anyways, enough with the gushing, on with the review. Writing quality is great, especially so when compared to the saturated market that is webnovels. Dialogue flows pretty smooth and manages to get some chuckles out of me. Grammar mostly checks out. And the writing manages to keep me engaged and connected with the story. Great work author. However, there are some questionable decisions pertaining to names, particularly the main character’s. *Cough* Ben Rover *Cough* Characters although quite templated, manage to feel like actual breathing characters. They have their own goals, drives, beliefs, likes and dislikes, personalities, etc. The author’s decision to put in chapters about other characters felt strange at first, but managed to work out and make me relate to some of them. The only problem is how obvious some of the character templates are, you can guess the exact thing some might say or do next, not really too much of a problem as I felt the characters were fleshed out enough. The world itself that the author made is very interesting and does a great job keeping the reader’s expectations high. My only qualm is the world-building and the size of the world itself. The author obviously has/had plans for big things, with an enormous world with multiple races along with the other worlds that these races come from. The problem is that the world is simply TOO big, and the author obviously seems to have some trouble building it each step of the way. There are a number of races that we have yet see or encounter, including dwarves and elves. Despite being talked about, we encounter little of their influence throughout the story, no leftover weapons, bodies, or random encounters that would help flesh out the fact that it is a world housing many races. Even the arc where both mcs went to the orc workd under invasion felt forced. All in all, it’s a pleasant reading experience. I love the work being done here and I’m excited to see how the author continues to build up the world.
