This entire comment thread is amazing. I personally find this to be one of my favorite translated stories that I have found. I find it comparable to Experimental Log of the Crazy Lich and Warlock of the Magus World. I am currently rereading this novel and enjoying every second of it. My comments. He is not an average player. He is on the level of some of the best players in the world. If memory serves right, he was ranked somewhere around 13th in the world. Add that to the fact that he got paid to level up other people's characters and you have someone who is very good at the game and has vast knowledge of the mechanics of the game and how each different class works. He knows the strengths and weaknesses and doesn't try picking fights that he had no confidence in winning. Plus, he is not treating this as if it were real life. There is a moment where he is checking every player to see if he exists in this world. And he's most certainly not a good person. He is trying to get as powerful as he can to keep himself safe. He contemplates if he could trap a player in a vr experience that is exactly what he is experiencing, but in the game itself. He is treating this at most like a pseudo reality. I also don't get your point when you say that he is disrespecting the army/ military. This is one of the very few novels that I have read where I feel like people other than the ones following the main character are intelligent. Every move they make is understandable and they are using the knowledge that they have available to them. You may feel like it's insulting, but it's mostly just that they have never dealt with something like a player in the world before. They are essentially playing two different games and the reason the main character is able to get ahead is because he knows that they are playing different games and he leverages that to his advantage. Also, you probably shouldn't mention your credentials in an online review of a story. It really doesn't help your case and makes you sound like you are insulting everyone's intelligence. If you really do find yourself to be smarter than everyone, I might suggest looking up the Dunning-Kruger effect. I personally have no credentials aside from having read a fair amount of books. I mostly just really like this story and want to exercise my free speech to tell you that I don't like you shouting out in a not fully thought out review that this is a bad book.
