In a kingdom of monsters and magic, Marco Flores is just the peasant son of a peasant. When he gets his chance to be a great Hero, he screws it up by running away from the fight. But when he encounters a secretive princess, he just might get his second chance at glory. Problem is, he'll have to lie, cheat, and scheme just to hold onto it... Updates: Starting out with 2-3 new chapters a week, more in the future. I unfortunately work a full time job otherwise I'd be one of those crazies that writes 15 chapters a week. So if you want more chapters than review and give stones and do all those other things to make Qidian-senpai notice me!

Moments

Blame_Your_Fate: Yes and no. There is a progression system for the rankings of Heroes in the world. So the more quests the complete, the more renown and resources they’ll get. But as for the Hero himself getting exp and gaining levels, no.

Blame_Your_Fate: The premise is quite solid, a very interesting take on reincarnation.

At first I was very excited to explore this new world with a different entertainment scene and see how the MC tackles it. But then he very quickly adjusts to his new life, just happens to have relevant skills to run a business, and knows the right people to make it happen. Not just that, but because the hero so quickly puts his plan together it soon devolves into the usual face-smacking.

I personally found it hard to stay invested because the clichés just keep on coming, and the characters aren't strong enough to make me care. There's a really cool novel here, it just feels buried under things you see in a lot of other webnovels. But if you like face-smacking and reincarnation you'll probably like this. Don't let me stop you from giving this a shot, I just wish this original novel had more original things.

Blame_Your_Fate: Wow dude, I've had the exact same experience with Beyond the Language. "Winner's shortlist," publishing with no contract, strung along since December. Except I didn't know that other authors were getting contracts while us "winners" were still waiting for something that isn't coming. So thanks for writing all this and good luck on other platforms. I'll be moving along, too.

Blame_Your_Fate: Thanks! I will! My original idea followed three protagonists: Marco, a mage, and a female hunter. They were all present at the battle with the dark sorcerer in the chapter one battle, and all ended up with varying degrees of success. Then five years later, a mysterious force starts killing the heroes. Marco stumbles upon the killings and has to get the gang back together to solve the mystery before they all die. So it would be like three seperate stories that eventually come together. The feedback I got was that multiple protags would be too confusing for the webnovel audience, that the story should be seperated into mini-arcs with crazy reveals like True Martial World, and that Marco should be an OP hero. I fought to keep Marco weak so that he could develop, but ended up scrapping the two other protags and murder mystery. I then created Reina and the Everlasting Flame to justify why Marco would be going on endless adventures and gaining new powers.

Sobdoob: That's a shame, but understandable. Qidian is a chinese company, and they're generally not the most trustworthy or reliable. Do update use in the future if you have an upcoming project. If I might ask though, what changes did you make to the story after their "request"?

Yes! I think chapters of recruiting musicians and finding ways to deliver the content would challenge the MC and provide interesting drama.

One part that sticks out to me is when the MC researches the world and discovers that its Entertainment sucks. He also mentions that the people of this world know it sucks and want better. But if that’s all they know, would they want different?

If a guy showed up in our world telling us that Star Wars and the Beatles suck and he has better ideas, would we just go with it? Or would he face difficulties finding people who weren’t so influenced by our music and movies that they couldn’t play the new music he came up with.

That’s just a thought I had. Basically, if the story was less face-smacking and more of the MC’s struggles in the entertainment world, it would make it much more compelling and the reader would want to root for him. View More

KoFu_: Finally a good review, thanks you pointed all the main points over your post and made my life a little easier.

I'm a fan of these type of novels just because I like reincarnation that only use their past knowledge thing. There isn't a mighty chip in your head or System helping you out.

But yeah the MC has all the things handed out, it's too easily for him. Maybe write a couple of chapter recruiting musicians? And maybe trust a low end singer and then have the singer betray him? IDK.

I'm too picky I guess, that's why I prefer writing my own stories haha!

8th_Lotus: It's soo good! Seriously, I can't believe this is like the only novel on this site that has actual good grammar and spelling.

It should be read just for that but that doean't mean it isn't a good read. The characters are funny and interesting and the environments are unique. You need to read this because the writer is an actual writer, and webnovel desperately needs more of those.

Boyoyo: This story moves really fast, it's got lots of action and a funny hero, but it doesn't come out fast like other stories. Good stuff is worth the wait I guess, but I want more.....

Laurellion: I discovered this and just had to binge read! The only reason I had to stop was because I was staying up way past my bedtime, but this is definitely the kind of story that grabs you and keeps going. Great pacing, interesting characters, and a setting that gets subtly deeper the more you get into it. Great if you're a fan of fantasy but also of modern things like Marvel movies.

HAPPYCLOUD: Perhaps by breaking the bounds of his patron will Marco truly become a hero of the people. Maybe the slowly but surely breaking of his bound will lead to other heroes breaking theirs as well. As they said in a certain movie ' if one stands up, they all will stand up!'. I'm especially rooting for the hero who had his village wiped out and his tongue cut off. His maybe redemption will likely bring tears to my eyes.

Yes, I read that part and it's definitely a step in the right direction. Conflict can, and often does, take the form of "bad guys" attacking and "good guys" stopping them. That can be exciting, but what gets people really invested in when important characters conflict with each other. If you want to use Isekai as an example, look at KonoSuba. Aqua and Kazuma's arguing is funny and sets the tone for the whole series. Kazuma wanted so badly to go to another world, but nothing about it turns out the way he wanted. That challenges him and entertains the audience.

Right now, Dawson got pretty much everything he could want from going to another world. What will keep the audience reading is that remains the case? And what does Carmen want? Is her goal in life just to be with Dawson? So when I say conflict, I guess I mean larger challenges that make Dawson and Carmen's life less perfect. Not just a spell that gets resolved in a chapter, but something larger that might threaten their lives or even their love. View More

DeJeL: I see you've read through chap 5, did you get to the end of it, It may not 'Yet' be challenging the MC persay, but it is a type of conflict, also did you forget the scene in chap 3 when he saved Honey? or is that not the type of conflict you mean, if not please elaborate so I understand better.

What in this world! Oh... Wait a minute. It's another world.

Many other reviews have pointed out grammar and structure mistakes, so I won’t go into those. Instead, I think the best piece of advice I can give you is to work on the characters.

The best way I can describe it is that everyone has something they want- revenge, love, money etc. An easy trick to writing a good scene is to keep in mind what the characters want, and how they try to get it from one another. Because at some point a character is going to prevent another from getting what they want. That creates conflict and makes for an exiting story. I say this because right now you have a lot of characters who only seem to want the main character to be happy. So even though you’re trying to show all their perspectives by changing POV, it doesn’t really have an impact because most of the time they’re just doing things to serve the MC. Because of this, the biggest conflicts our hero faces is what to order for dinner or how to get through a crowded courtyard. Not the most riveting stuff.

But keep writing, keep improving. Just think of your characters besides the MC as people who want things. When you do, you’ll probably come up with some really exciting ideas on how to challenge the MC. View More

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it! Not sure what you mean about “naming the character as myself” though. My real name is definitely not Marco, and while I did use some of my life experiences to inspire the scenario I didn’t 100% make him me. I wish my life was this exciting lol View More

Xin_Quiote: Naming your own character as you is kind of.. but, yup. it's good.

You’ve certainly noticed that Marco is projecting some of his issues on to Leo. And I hope that I can make the character development good enough as he learns to take responsibility and actually better himself. But I also want to point out that this is a medival setting, not the modern day where governments with checks and balances exist. So I think abuse of power over generations definitely happens very frequently in this world as no one really has the ability to question the monarchy to stop it. It’ll be something I definitely want to explore going forward. View More

rustic: Oh... good marcos is starting to figure out he was really a whiny **** bag. Sure he might have some truth.. however people get postions of power because of hard work and they stay in positions of power through hard work.. i know to many people who say they failed because others kept them down. Those who abuse there power might do it for years. However very rarely is it generational.. i know there is an example out there so i womt say it doesnt happen but i cant think of one off the top of my head..mafia might be the closest . Or business crime. Its rare for the family to survive 3 generations in that case. Normally he second generation dies fast. Ki jung un probally the best example and he and his father not doing so great.. i really do not want to call that a success.

Laurellion: Leo definitely has some good points, but I don't think Marco is completely immoral. He is definitely immature, I think character development will fix that, but the very first chapter showed him jumping into danger to save children without thought. I think he's totally redeemable, not a killer and rapist like Chinese MCs
