I see the realistic aspect of humanity as to this modern world. I could say we got only 40% to able to become a spacefaring society. Reasons why that percentage? Most government spend too much on military funds than scientific advancement. True that some military upgrade lead to some technological leap but that's a large margin in comparison in helping society and propagates motivation instead fearing the unknown to moved on. A wide arrays within social structure are highly condemned and most of all greed flowed like river endlessly. Humanity at this point should be already technological advanced enough to put an orbital city but progressed were massively halted due to poor circumstances that affected the inner workings of society. Tensions like useless conflicts, wealth and pleasure and secrecy bullshit that keeps popping around. At this point, mankind would never progress but eventually destroy themselves for being stupid, arrogant and greedy.
