IMO the problem isn’t the humans, it’s bad writing. Author hasnt studied how people behave in the aftermath of huge tragedies. This is how people behave in lesser incidents, not really huge tragedies.

This is pretty foolish considering his experience with the Lich from the council.

Someone capable of making a blue cored Awakened move at their whims was a force to be reckoned with. It was better to speak softly and let them play by his rules. As long as Lith could prepare the field in advance, he was certain to have the upper hand.

The “law of causality” is just a conjecture based on experience. The only thing pointing to it in nature is really thermodynamics. Otherwise there’s not a real basis for it. Surprised none of them has discussed this. They got to relativity but no one really asked a question about what time is? And why they assume it moves in one direction?

Such an explanation resolved the contradictions about the law of causality, but it also highlighted the observer effect!

Maybe they should think why astrology still works then? This experiment is actually the reason they can make predictions in a chaotic world. It’s more reasonable than assuming their magic is predicting the every movement of every particle in a “clockwork” universe!

In Allyn, Rentato, and every place that the stream was available, the arcanists had similar reactions. The sorcerers who were good at astrology, in particular, were sobbing silently, as if they were mourning for the dying determinism and the law of causality that might have been sabotaged.

Honestly this is a silly argument. But there are some corollary type arguments that are persuasive. In fact many of the German physicists who contributed to development of QM were aware of them because they came from eastern epistemology. Requires too much to write here but you can read the book “My View of the World” by Erwin Schrodinger.
