Well,I don’t think the comment section here really regards the cocoons as a curse…… View More

gtfantasy: Author summarized volume 4 at the end and I do a translation here, bear in mind this is not a word to word one.
Undying, a blessing or a curse. This is the theme of this volume and it fits for many characters such as Azik, Anderson, Leonard etc etc, but when Klein saw those cocoons and people with modernized outfits inside, especially three of those has already broken out, author doesn’t need to emphasize the theme again at this point. The feelings of thrill, terror, suspense, craziness and darkness of this book should appear again. This is one of high impact scenes author prepared before he starts to write the novel.
The whole volume author progressively closing foreshadows including Anderson’s branch which was laid in the middle of volume 3, so at the end of this volume the plots finally exploded and echoed, he was satisfied with the result and will close some remaining foreshadows in next volume.
There were some weaknesses in volume 4 as well, as a tycoon Klein’s daily life lacks conflict, if this part drags too long it is really hard to construct interesting story, but this part can’t be omitted as well, so he was anxious before the plot progressed to Chanis gate, some readers may feel the sudden turning point here, because it lacked a bit of foreshadowing.
Another weak point was the story in this volume was a bit longer than expected, pace at the second part of this volume was the problem. There was a whole month author was not in a good status, he felt that after Klein got potion formula and Leonard dug the grave the story was lacking the *******, he tried to remedy and reconstruct the story but still not happy with the result. Later on he figured out of the reason, lacking change. In another words, after Klein leveled up in the middle of volume 3 to the middle of volume 4 there were more than 200 chapters, so it needed a change urgently. So he adjusted the story and only focused on level up and revenge, pushed everything else aside. From the stats of Qidian, the result was good but it caused other problems, for example Calderon City plot was too simple it should be more complicated.
As for author level up is not only a plot climax point but also a tool to control the story rhythm. The former is easy to understand, even in real world level up is everywhere; e.g employee gets promotion, same for businessmen and government officers. The latter is more complicated, one level up can bring man changes, so author can control the story better.
After plot reached a climax point as for author the most important thing is to calm down and only express what is necessary and get rid of harmful and superfluous staff. Author wants to make sure all the built up feelings and explosions not get interrupted and diluted. So at the end of the volume Klein as director of a grand show, author balanced the story and he didn’t want to drag in too many powerful figures that too many accidents and tensions will cause Klein fail to advance. Author also didn’t want split level up and revenge into two separate lines which will drag the story too slow, interweave Ince’s recall will help to portrait the character but not the plot at this point, so author sacrificed it as well.
Author also considered pulling Daly’s death early and building a ******* that Ince will kill everyone then escape, but he is not certain if the curtain fall will be as sad and beauty as current one, so he sacrificed a bit ******* to make sure ending will be good.
For Daly in author’s original setting, she is the one in church that chasing the Death authority, but later on author dropped this idea. Only as a talented person then there will be story to match Captain Dunn a very normal Nighthawk officer.
So this is the summary for volume 4, author wants readers to guess who is the 3rd person and next volume name is Red Priest.

The book will end at May or June this year...not too far from now...wish you pick it up again and give a complete review then View More

Nighterfield: Before I start my review, I'll have you know that this review of mine is heavily influenced by my preference and taste. and it appears many people misunderstood this novel as a mystery detective novel. but that's not the case. this is not a mystery detective novel with murder cases to solve, but a novel about some people from secret organization that discover the truths in histories, fabricated histories, myths, conspiracies and hidden plots but decide to keep those knowledge to themselves and act behind the shadow. In other word, this is an adventure novel, just because the title is "Lord of the Mysteries" doesn't mean it's a detective novel with tons of murder cases. so if you are expecting to read a mystery novel with murder cases to solve, please turn back.

Lord of the Mysteries is a webnovel that have a very good storyline, suspense and worldbuilding unlike any other novels in this site, the storyline and suspense alone make other famous novel such as mahouka, mushoku tensei, and other novels look like garbage. and what piqued my interest the most is the fact that history is a very important part of the plot and story, in fact there wouldn't be a storyline without history. and I really love this kind of story because I love the story about some people from hidden organization go to find the secrets of the world that only a handful of people know about them and keep them to themselves, this novel reminds me of kuujou spin flower. but sadly I have to stop reading this amazing novel because of hypocrite main protagonist, a marie sue side character, a lie and a stupid rule.

A LIE
there is a very big lie that author made, that is "one has to pay the price for what fate has bestowed upon him". I will explain about this lie along with other things below.

Klein Moretti : A Hypocrite
Klein Moretti is the main protagonist of this novel, he is a happy go lucky guy that have a very strong sense of justice. he is kind and always help those in need. so what makes me think this kindhearted character as a hypocrite ? he claimed himself as Evil Hunter, judges other people for doing bad things such as murder and hunts them. but at the same time he serves and worships a goddess that destroyed a country and exterminated a clan/big family. I understand why he serves the goddess, it's because she holds his pathway and klein needs her knowledge to know the materials used to create potion. and yes author made it clear that klein is using goddess as much as as goddess is using him. but I see it as nothing but an excuse to justify his action and I still remember how klein cherished his life so much at the beginning of this novel but later on somehow and without any character development he becomes someone who actually dares to offend a sequence 1 angel who was trying to reach godhood when he himself only a sequence 4 beyonder. this is so out of character and contradicts of his main goal; going back to earth. why would someone who cherished his life so much suddenly becomes this kind of deathseeking character ? and if he really wanted to return to earth, he wouldn't dare to offend an almost god existence since he already has many enemies, and godlike entities are among them so he could return to earth smoothly. yes I know that klein is kindhearted person and he wouldn't sit idle when a king is killing his people. but he could have just helped people who were in danger with his power instead of offending him. that kind is an almost godlike existence. but perhaps this kind of plot is done on purpose just like the super amazing vol. 1 (chap 1 - 213) and I can think of the cause is adam. this guy has the ability to make everything goes according to his will with a pen and book. if that's really the case, then author doesn't make any mistake here, in fact this kind of twist would be something amazing and ignore my ranting about klein.

VAPE_DUCK: This novel is an absolute KINO work. I'm not fond of writing about what isn't in a work, but rather, what is in a work; however, it should first be established that LoTM is devoid of most of the commonplace tropes you find in CN novels. Of course, if you examine it closely, you'll find that it does indeed adhere to some frustrating qualities. Namely, the constant "SASUGA FOOL" and the mental gymnastics Alger especially will go through in order to achieve the requirements for a certain plot point to occur. Nevertheless, these problems are, for the most part, unrealistic at worst, but still within the scope of being believable.

All of the major characters in LoTM have well-established traits and personalities, along with motivations. Derrick has his naive-and-steadfast character, focused on freeing his home-city from its foggy jail; Alger has his mature and experienced, sometimes overthinking personality; and of course, Klein with his constant lampooning. Also Klein's stepping counterclockwise four times. And also his tapping his glabella twice. An especially noticeable trait about LoTM's major characters, in comparison to most CN novels, is that they all progress. Not just in terms of their "cultivation" (named Sequences in this novel), but also their personalities. A fault I do have to give, however, is that the development is extremely slow for many of these characters. Of course, that's a given, given the length of the novel. Still, it is somewhat irksome.

In regards to the story development, LoTM excels in this regard. There is never a moment where you feel that one scene or event is out-of-place, and you receive a sense of gratification when Klein, or any of the characters, really, manage to piece one event with another using in-world knowledge that was previously already provided. For the most part, the story has either action sequences, or sequences with Klein/others planning/thinking/conjecturing/lampooning about matters. When you have the odd occasion where it's a sort of "filler" chapter, you don't really feel that it's out of place for the most part, as most of the "filler" chapters are there to relieve the reader out of the constant action - and when not doing that, to develop a character some more. And I use "filler" in quotations because, later on, almost all of these chapters will 100% not be filler, as they will have some meaning later on. This is a writing technique used by the author I've never seen before in any other webnovel, in which he uses even "fluff" chapters to insert meaningful information that will tie in together. It's amazing.

As for the world building, this novel has one of the best I've seen in my entire life - whether that be in regards to web novels, light novels, or even well-acclaimed stories from the West. It's hard to summarize without an entire novel to write, but in essence, LoTM's lore really does make you feel as though you're reading about the story of a person who is actually real, in a real other world. All the sects/churches/gods and their supernatural backgrounds and lore tie in very neatly, and if you check out the wiki, you'll find that there is boundless amounts of information about the world that was very obviously all planned out by the author from the start.

Another incredible detail about LoTM is the amount of settings in which it contains. The story takes place in many different locations, from your "atypical" victorian-era city which is actually full of secret supernatural gangs, churches, and pirates, all the way to the City of Silver, which is separated from the rest of the world and at the technological level of a medieval age. This is in most part due to the varying amount of main cast members in the story, as well as another major point about the MC which I won't talk about because spoilers.

And just in case you're worried, none of these locations are forgotten about. In LoTM, there is no "other region" full of more advanced versions of previous characters like in CN novels. Characters of all varying power levels, straight from the middling novice Sequence 9 to a Sequence 4 (already beginning to enter Godhood) can be placed in the same city. This means that the main characters in LoTM will regularly go between new places and old places in its world.

Lastly, I should talk about the thematic elements in this story. That's right, thematic elements! Unlike many other online web novels (I know I've said this many times), LoTM contains actual themes and ideas around its narrative. The first volume, "Clown", details the idea of laughing at fate - smiling at circumstances that you cannot resist, smiling at that which is greater than you. The second volume, "Faceless", contains the author's depictions of the lives of normal citizens amidst the ocean of the supernatural. How do they, who are mortal and powerless against the mysterious, the monsters and the corrupt Beyonders, exist beyond the frame of the story of the "protagonists"? These are the type of ideas that the author of LoTM have integrated into his story, and they work very well.

For all of these reasons I've stated, LoTM is a wonderful work, and
definitely my favourite WN I'm currently reading. And also, the favourite one I've ever read in my entire life, period.

Suck_My_Huge_Dick: Ince was once a sequence 5 of the Death pathway, which has the ability to communicate with and order spirits.maybe that’s why the evil spirit found him...…
And……given his ability, I personally think Ince still has consciousness...which means he in fact corporates with Medic just like Leonard rather than being completely possessed...…Besides, It’s dull that you revenge on someone already be killed…

Dex2: I just had an interesting thought:

When Ince Zangwill dies, what kind of characteristic will he leave behind? Will it be a ✔ Sequence 4 Nightwatcher of sleepless pathway + sequence 5 of Death?

Or will it be a hybrid characteristic similar to how kalvetua's characteristic pulled other characteristics to form the sea god sceptre? (Though I doubt this)

Perha** it won't be a characteristic but will form a sealed artifact of one or both characteristics

vire: Very bad, I have no idea how people are rating this 4-5 stars.
- MC is a soulless sociopath, as is his father.
- Side characters are not bad, unfortunately MC gets a lot of them killed for no reason and feels no guilt for it.
- Very similar to WMW, in all the wrong ways. WMW might as well be borderline plagiarism of this story, except in WMW *everyone* is a sociopath, whereas here it's just the MC & dad (as of ch 20).
- MC's power progression involves him watching people swing their swords, copying it with the AI chip, then eating some fruits and crap that boosts his strength but magically doesn't do anything for anyone else. A few weeks later he is the strongest person in the castle.
- Basic inconsistencies all over the place. MC's dad travels 10 days to a mine, MC catches up within hours on foot. MC also magically scans his father from 13 kilometers away using AI chip, despite it repeatedly being established that the AI chip uses MC's senses to detect things. MC goes to woods to catch a bear that his father publicly killed the previous chapter. Author has absolutely no respect for consistency or fact checking.
- Pseudo-waifu's all over the place approaching MC for ***. No downside to it, except MC claims he "can't have *** or it will interfere with the development of his body."
- As extension of above point, MC is supposed to be from the future but is evidently completely ignorant of technology and biology. He also never once thinks about or mentions his entire past/future life, even though it's ostensibly the most interesting thing about him. It's hard to tell if the characters are just that shallow, or if MC is actually mentally handicapped.
