From what we know it does make sense. From the moment he was born in this life, he thought he would be the one to change the future and save everyone, the "Hero". Since he arrived in this world however, he faced L after L after L. And now he finds out that Rey is much more powerful than him. That's a heavy blow for everyone.

Sure, he was dealing with some issues of inadequacies, but Rey always knew he would overcome them. No matter what, it made no sense for him to escape.

This was a Commander, and the pinkish tail behind her, alongside the wings that folded behind her were more than enough to signify her race. Adrien was used to this, so he made sure not to stare too much. Instead, he walked closer to her and nodded in all readiness.
