"We aren't going to eat it raw," Doevm said as he pulled his dagger from his spatial ring. "First, we skin both its legs, remove the legs, cook them, then we eat it." He ran his dagger through the skin. "And we'll probably need extra portions for the future. Since food doesn't decay in our spatial rings, I'll make enough for the rest of the week."

After more paddling, the area brightened. It wasn't the moon, which was barely more than a sliver through the many thick branches, but insects buzzing around. Their bright cores flickered like beacons. Thomas's eyes lit up as he held out his hand, waiting in vain for one to land on his finger. "What are these things?" He looked ahead, at the hundreds flying around. They shone a soft blue on the green and brown trees, keeping nocturnal creatures, who hated light, back.

"Ahoy," General Marble coughed. "Sorry, had something in my throat." When Doevm thought back, he had never gotten a clear picture of the General, just of his steaming hand extinguishing a fireball.

Knights and Resistance members dropped to the ground, blood pouring out of their severed limbs. Some of the Resistance members had time to turn into creatures, which tore through the masses. Blood and guts rained over everything. Doevm waded through the mess, heading towards the right side of the fight. His three targets were clear as day to him: the dagger-weilder, the hammer-weilder, and the archer.

"I know the name," Alexander said as he circled Doevm. "But you're covered in a bunch of ash. I didn't even recognize you." Doevm looked into his reflection in the couple's pool of blood and sure enough, he was covered head to toe in black soot and ash.

'But that other man, Sir Marble, who stole my one of my books and was declared a fucking hero,' He moved for seemingly the first time in hours, his bones creaking as they shook. His breath shot out of his mouth as if they were flames from a dragon. 'But that is in the past, and I cannot change it. That might have been my failure or intervention from someone else. I do not know.' He put himself back into a comfortable position with his hands interlocked. His breathing cooled down. ��That book did not have a title inscribed, but no matter what it is, it will cause humans to rapidly gain power. I need to find out what it is in the future.' He added it on his little mental to-do list, right next to beating the current hero, whoever Arthur reincarnated as.
