also they don't for a core, they're born with one. It just goes from inactive to active when you're awakened it's like the author was told the plot by someone else and decided to make a fanfic about it without knowing how it works xd

pretty sure it's not meditation that awakens you, it's a breathing technique, how this works is the world energy in the air is forced into the body through the lungs and into the mana core of the person doing it. also mc wouldn't be able to take over the magic without either overpowering it w/more mana or domination and the mc doesn't have the training for either of those xd pretty sure having a mage in your family is a good thing whether you're a commoner or a noble
