First of all if you didn't only read the first 60-80 chapters (you could read the raw if the chapters weren't out during the time you wrote this), you would know that the desert is not even their home, as well they are 'lesser jackalans' which are similar to lesser vampires in the way of reduced intelligence, strength and speed (mostly through reduced nutrients and lesser experience). Secondly, I don't understand you problem with him killing the jackalans, do you believe that they are a peaceful race and wouldn't also kill him or any humans that they stumble upon? In fact in the novel it mentions that they often raid various villages on the border, which most certainly incuded taking what they wanted and killing mostly everyone there (just like the mc). What is the problem of him killing a 'intelligence race', this is a world of constant war and conflict, everyone kills other races including their own. Thirdly, his mental state may not be exactly stable, he died when only 15 on earth and has been raised for 16 years in a kingdom that often partakes in conflicts (this is further expanded upon in the novel), his father doesn't care for him and it is often conveyed as a rather poor example of being a parent/guardian even if you include his duties. The large change of surroundings must have changed him to become more aligned to wars and battles, not only through the environment (which many articles, experiments and psychologists agree it shapes a human being more that how they were taught or the principals that they believed in), but also through peer pressure by the nobles, brother, father and everyone else around him that showed their expectations which as a teenager (especially being transported to another world) he would try to match by being becoming more brutal, a better strategist and better with weaponry.
