No I meant what I said. Just having a female patron god doesn't stop people from being sexist. It takes more work than that View More

novelreader_read: well not sure why you are bringing sexism into this. I just stated that I was thinking about all the goddesses in mythology.

Egyptic - Isis - the symbol of royal power, the most powerful magic-user. etc etc. now I despise one of her stories, as its seriously a great love story about her trying to rescue her husband after he gets killed by Styx but it's just a bad revenge story. (personal opinion)

Japan - Amaterasu - who is the sun, literally. she rules the heavens and with it everything. storywise a bit of a narcissist but what gods aren't, well this was her greatest weakness. :P not sure of this one but her mother Izanami, is part of rulers if not powerful within the underworld after getting killed at childbirth. at least she kills a lot of people every day. good stuff.

greek - Athena - sure I will talk about her as you mentioned her but she is kind of a Bad choice. sure she was kinda powerful, being a goddess of many great things, and gave the Athenians olive trees becoming their patron goddess. and no I'm not gonna talk about her getting angry and turning one of her priests into a gargol, making medusa into a gargol was a gift so that it would never happen again. her helping Perseus was only under the orders of Zeus as helping heroes was her job aswell betraying medusa who trusted her. the golden apple story that was the reason the war of troy happened that shows the bad side of Athena among others.
other goddesses from greek that is more interesting would maybe be
Eris the goddess of discord. (she is awesome)
Hera the goddess of marriage etc.
Nemesis a goddess who punished people like narcissus. (she is awesome)

Norse - Idun - the goddess that keeps the other gods and goddesses young.
there are other cool goddesses from Norse mythology like Frigg who is the only other person that can sit on the throne. but he Valkyria is probably the coolest thing in Norse mythology (in this context even do they aren't goddesses or I think they are not :P ).

there are quite a few more that i know of but im tired of writing so cutting it down.

I had to look this one up im not that familiar with these stories so I didn't remember much from it but
Mesopotamian (ancient sumer) - Inanna - goddess of love, beauty sex, desire fertility (wow why is he talking about here) war, justice and political power <-- (that was why)

now to talk about what you were talking about. yes sure it wasn't great how they treated woman back then, historically there has been ups and down in that context everywhere but talking about greek then Spartans was probably the closest to equal (but far from it) as females needed to train the same way as a man and had the right to own land. (both are a big deal historically)
but what is funny about your statement is that, it was better around this time than how it was in the years to come. when other religions came to power. just like gay rights, back then it was normal and common with love between man.

Isn't the maiden of pain often used as a tpk? Maybe I am thinking of a different maiden View More

Michicotan: It is kinda feeling like just filler eh? Too much backstory makes it dry and hard to swallow 😑😪

I'd say this book is pretty good. Better than even most dnd books set during the times of trouble. The author really did very well for themselves here. If only more fantasy novels are like this, then I'd be a happy man View More
