I think Beth is the dark angel and Madeline was blamed. Raphael even asked about the men who bullied Madeline and Beth protected her snd the men disappeared!

Madeline wondered how her sister Beth was doing right now. Considering how she was head over heels over Markus Wilmot, Madeline knew that Beth was in shock and didn't know what to say. But at the same time, if Markus had spent his time with Beth, was it possible that the man had poisoned Beth's mind against her?

He was being considerate by looking over what she was eating while also making sure she wasn't uncomfortable or repulsed by the food that was being served to her.
