I don't think that it could do it permanently because I want it to be clear that in the rules of alchemy you can't do something without limits. Plants can't grow passed what they can naturally, a process that can only create a certain amount of voltage can't shoot lightning, and you can't just put the shovel down and expect it to dig forever. That's just my take on it, that's why with Stone Skin I think that it will only work up to a point where he sheds it like he would with dead skin cells!
