So I just wrote and deleted an argument because I realized I wasn't sending my point, I was just arguing. Here is my point: 1 they do have a complex system of interpretable laws as seen with the case of Phloria(I think) it took quite a few chapters and she was mostly free to move around. If she only had god to defend her she wouldn't have been able to get help from the royals. The nobles couldn't have dragged it out so long either. Just the fact it happened means there system can be influenced and drawn out. If it were up to the royals it wouldn't have been long because she was on their side and was in the right. 2 just because it looks like systems we have had on earth doesn't mean it is. Their military is not just an army controlled by the royals. It is shown that military rank can be of similar value to Noble rank and that there is more to it than would have been in an actual midieval army. Then there is the mages association which has the power to topple Noble houses in order to protect magic users. The system is more developed or at least meant to look more developed than it's counterpart on earth. 3 Historical accuracy doesn't matter in fantasy. Salaarak(hope I spelled that right) wouldn't have needed to say that if it was actually a society from earth because yes that position wouldn't exist. But the griffin kingdom isn't the only one and there is nothing saying a known but not mentioned society has them. Guardians live for a very long time and she could have seen the rise and fall of a society with lawyers. 5 Science has had a major impact on society but they developed magic instead
