I don't know if you just want to keep commenting, changed subjects or really didn't get my point. I just said It's cliche, it's normal to find everywhere, and sincerely I saw immortality as the goal few times, normally immortality is just one of the things.And most of the time their ambitions are just that: strength, they don't have many varied ambitions or purposes. I disagree when you put like that, they don't pursue strength as a means to an end only. They pursue strength because it gives something to them, the protagonist would want strength because it gives you all that: freedom, authority, immortality, or permission for something. AND back to what I intended to say: Pursuit of strength is valid, is sound, it's just that it's cliche, mostly because it's really the only option to such novels, or they would end pretty fast. If not, they either want to be the strongest from the start, they need to be strong for something, but strong enough to be the strongest, or they needed something, got it but because of that all the mc has is threatened if he doesn't become the strongest.

Alexis hugged Matt and tried to go back to sleep. When Matt returned to consciousness, he didn't feel like he had just dreamt for a few hours. He felt like he spent years in another world. It was dangerously addicting. However, in the wrong mind and wrong dream, it could be very bad. Matt was glad to have discovered this first before trying it on someone else.

That's the point. What IF it was an overpowered growing armor that could assimilate other items and get all their stats and effects, and could also suck souls of the killed, getting all their power and talents, without limits? Unfortunately it's too vague and it doesn't say anything about the effects of the armor, It's an option to avoid, for it's too uncertain, but because of that you also can't say it's useless UNTIL someone says the effects.

Envelops your body with dark armor.

The pursuit of strength as the main objective IS cliche because it's a very common as a reason for protagonists in stories. But it's also a completely valid reason and it's not like it being cliche is a reason to stop reading the story, if you ask me.

The situation you said looks like the one using the skill did move, so I wouldn't say he could do that, I see that the skill is very useful out of battle or when trying to hide, But it's uses in battle are limited, although you could create some chances to use it. If you want to use the skill well I'd make first rhe enemy lose sight of me temporally to then use it a little away from where I last stood, then you could probably make the person think you ran away and escaped, but you'd have to move to attack, and you wouldn't put your guard down because someone disappeared, you'd think he/she is plotting something and get even more alert initially, so only if the person had a reason to stay there long enough to put the guard down, or it wouldn't be enough for a surprise attack, which isn't impossible, just a little hard.

If standing still you'll be invisible but if you breathe the invisibility will be cancelled.

Matt was extremely thankful for his obsession with value. Something told him forming a sub-body first would have blocked this evolution variant.
